@almad4it Jaguar has 5 processors, that's right.

Two are 64 bit, two are 32 bit and the Motorola 68000 ist 16/32 bit.

Also bus and memory is 64 bits wide.

Why do you add only two processors if you know that there are five?

All five would be 208 or 224 bits ;-)

also the very poorly developed lauch titles like cybermorph (developed for the panther) club drive etc

and the atari rehashes of games like defender and missle command never did the consule any favours to show cased its ablity to the public.

why did they not choose newer titles which atari had in arcade cabinets, like hard driving, gauntlet and paperboy ?

it gave completely the wrong impression of what the hardware was capable off.

nice to find a fair review of the jaguar, i would question your assumption about its 3d ablities, since later games did show a much great ablity.

and john carmack did say with a few hardware tweeks he could have seen it being strong enough to be competive with the playstation even though it couldnt move polygons as efficently as the playstaion

the problem with the jaguar not delivering what it should have 3d is more down to very poor development support for what was a very complex 5 chip system

Biggest problem with this system, aside from lack of quality titles, is that it was never a true 64-bit system. The 3DO was significantly more powerful in so many ways, especially with 3D.

I first stated playing games on the Intellivsion. Then we got the Amiga500 in the mid 80s. In the 90s we got the 286 and 386 pc. And the rest is history. PC gaming for life. :P

I remember being on a trip at one point back in 98 or 99, maybe even 00. At the time I wandered into this video game store only to see a new in the box Jaguar up on the shelf STILL for sale for 200 dollars. I talked with the manager/owner of the shop and he swore up and down that they were just having a "slump" and would be releasing new games soon.  I bet he STILL has that system too.

@darkyoda Really? even if it was 98 that is truly unbelievable... and no offense but I doubt it would of been in 99 because hype for the next gen consoles had started... and I think the PS2 was out in 00 unless I"m terribly mistaken, probably am... but anyway. Why would they keep such a bad selling console? I mean I suppose there was a niche market... but trying to sell it for full price is... well... crap.

@Koniassu As best I could sort out, there were some contributing factors to them still having it. First this was in darkest Kentucky. (eh I have family from there) Meaning that it was pretty well off the beaten path. Secondly, this wasn't much of a game store. It wasn't like the more modern stores then or now, but more a small storefront in a strip mall. Even now, I suspect that it was one of those situations where being "out of touch" and not a big seller played a major part of everything.
