  • I love D&D but I think that it's pretty inaccurate to say "1/4th of the united states population plays D&D on a monthly basis"

  • christians are scared of the human imagination.... because of the sights we may hold in our minds may blow away the lame dogma of yesteryears. but RPG's are just good all-around fun!

  • dnd is very dark it its fun to play in moderation and do u guys think i should tak a party of 2 lv4s and 2 lv5s against a night hag or maybe i should take the disease of the nighthag

  • Oh my goodness!

What's the name of this store?!

  • @mo123813 uh...books comics & things

  • ha, ultima 7 part two serpent isle was my favorite game was i was younger.

  • HA! I KNEW IT! that kid commited suicide BECAUSE he was probably like so friken deep in the game and obsest that wene he go cursed he was really upset and killed himslef.

  • Some Christians play D&D and some people use God as a diety within it, and choose to teach good morals.

  • If Obama taxes roleplaying. Some sort of Dungeons and Dragons addict is going to assasinate him I bet.

  • uh, i seriously doubt roleplaying will be taxed on top of the sales tax we pay for the game now.

  • That would be awesome

  • Wow, this documentall is really good. I didn't knew many things about D&D. And as I'm thinking of starting playing it with my friends i need all the information i can get my hands on. Thanks a lot!

  • Wow!!! Oprah owns D&D. I didn't think she could get any cooler.

  • I think they might have been confusing Hasbro with Harpo.

  • THANKS THE VID!!!!!!

  • Our friends use to play similar games to RPG's, though not exactly, it is more like solving puzzles, trying to figure mathmatical equations. You have combat and battles, and stats.

  • Good work on this video. Not often is there quality video put on youtube. the box in a box thing was distracting, but the video as a whole was informative and well written.

  • I think I need a cleric ! or maybe find a warhammer crossover portal and get a daemon slayer !

  • omg 6,666 views !! wtf

  • awesome ending

  • I kinda liked it. Satirical shows on the occultist criticism of D&D like this are refreshing.

  • I´m a player and don´t like the video... looks bad think. Rpg have many good thinks to show... Make a video about it...

  • Was this Cliff's theatrical debut? He's da man!!!

  • 2:15 If Oprah fucks with DnD shes dead!!!!!

  • I say we deal with Oprah in advance.

  • I agree, my parents already hate her because she supported Obama...but I have nothing against him yet.

  • what if Obama puts a tax on roleplaying?

  • @numba1netsfan Then there will be a riot in every city with game nerds, while the others that are not nerds stay inside and play D&D and actually pay their taxes.

  • soooooo funny

  • Not all RPG are satanic or violent at all. Even those that are violent, or satanic, not everyone that plays these games get carried away or become satanists. When I was a kid, Me, My Brother, Uncle and friend played a RPG, GI JOE, we made all the rules. We used the same Dice that D&D uses.

  • These games ,and others like it, it all depends on the game and those who play it, and the manner they play it.

  • @DerektheDuctTape Very true, when my wife and i role play, it's mainly adventure and combat. But her brother runs his own game, and he will openly admit it gets perverted. There is that "Book of Vile Darkness" at 0:35, but even he won't touch that.

  • My dad got angry when I started researching this game and getting interested, he said it was a bad game (he meant something like satanic) but then I figured out that his childhood friends all left him to play it instead. I assume this is the story for a lot of the people who call D&D devil supporters...did you know someone thought that Pokemon was satanic? said it was because the main char. was "greedy" because the catchphrase "gotta catch em all" lol.

  • If you look hard enough, you can make anything satanic, even toothpaste, can be satanic.

  • The entire world is Satanic. Just look at America. XD jk jk. And yes, I live there. Lol.

  • gary gygax died =(

    RIP

u were the bestest man ever =(

  • no friggen shyt that's weird al playing in the backtround in the credits.

  • yes it is. :)

  • The article was The Business of RPG's The Role of Market Research by Cindy Rice on the wizards website.

  • Uh, no...one-fourth of the US population does NOT play D&D. Maybe one fourth of the people *you* know, but not of the general population. The majority of people probably couldn't even tell you how the game is played, let alone that they play it!

With stats, you should give your source. What's your source for this figure?

  • actually, after researching how many people play, I do believe 1/4th of the population DOES play.

  • I find that hard to believe without proper sourcing.

  • 1/4 of the us population does play, considering the fact that about 1/3 of the us population is nerds, geeks, and gamers. Now prolly only 10% of that 1/4 will admit to it.

  • Dude there is absolutely no way. Out of the hundreds of people I know which include both family, friends, and aquaintances, I can honestly say maybe 8 to 10 at most play DnD, there might be 5 to 6 that would be "iffy". On top of that, I can honestly say that maybe 100 of them, at the absolute MOST, would even have heard of the game.

Your statement is indeffinatley false and I am fully confident in betting every single material possession I own that you are wrong.

  • The thing is that just because they don't say that they play, doesn't mean that the don't play. I have meet hundreds of people that you would go "Oh they don't play" but then after talking to them and telling them a story from one of the games you played and then they tell you one you go "Holy Fuck!? you play D&D?"

  • Then obviously the crowds you hang with and the crowds I hang with are totally different.

  • @Kyothon now, my question is, in this survey, based on marketing i think it said in the video, are they taking into account only PnP D&D, or electronic forms as well? I'm talking about the Gamecube and XBox D&D games. I have known people who will play those for hours then turn around and joke about people doing the real thing in the other room.

  • @LMMEjsmith the original report was based on the 1.0 and 2.0 games which was long before the video games, so it was based only on the PnP version, even so the reporter only made the game look bad because her kid was suicidal and killed himself after his character died in a game.

  • I would like to know the source of this 1/4. i dont believe it, because I've asked hundreds of people if they play, many havnt even heard of it. The only was i can assume this 1/4 is right is because there is a huge underground city below Vegas, which plays DnD 24/7. Anyone know where this 1/4 comes from ??

  • Lol, I'm with you on that one. I've heard about D&D way back in the day, but that's only because my mom made fun of people who played it when she was a teenager. Though, now a days, I've found no one, who isn't in a comic book/gaming store, who plays D&D on a monthly basis AT all. So yeah, 1/4 my ass. Maybe 1/16. xD

  • I remember mentioning D&D to my mother (an intelligent woman and far from a fundamentalist) when I discovered it in 3rd grade or so. This was in the mid-80s; the BADD/sensationalist media blitz was still fresh in everyone's minds, so her response was still "I don't want you playing that" (due to the supposed Satanism/suicide tie-ins). I started GMing Star Wars and playing Ravenloft in high school and loved both - good, clean, imaginative fun. I look forward to DMing games for my kids someday.

  • wrong, the guys name was "dave arnesson" not "james"

  • i know. thanks. many people have posted about that.

  • if u have a mental instability, dont play RPGS, or video games, otherwise u will go insane. thats wat everyone is yelling about, retards play these games then shoot up people SAYING A RETARD DID SOMETHING BECAUSE IT WAS IN A GAME IS THE WORST FUCKING POINT EVER!!

  • yeah, you only really hear about the few people out of millions that play this game that go insane, because they have issues, so parents are all like, "my kid isnt playing D&D because the only thing i hear about are kids going insane and knifing someone" when every normal person has a ot of fun with the game, its not a problem for them d&d DOES NOT MAKE PEOPLE GO INSANE, ITS JUST THAT A FEW INSANE PEOPLE MAKE IT LOOK BAD!

  • Actually, how about if you have a mental instability just don't ever own or possess a weapon. Games aren't even really a catalyst, they're just an excuse, at best.

  • There are wepons all over the house, its kinda hard not to have some type of wepon in the house. dont let ur kid play games/rpgs, if he has a mental illness. Then, if/when they crack and kill someone, the media can blame TV

  • Is the george town you are talking in texas because if so I have been looking for a local gaming, comic store I and can't really afford going to cedar park all the time.

  • you don't like rpgs? ok don't play them. and stop annoying us forever ^__^

  • what?

  • TKTK00 you are a retard...she's trying to convince people that RPG's ARN'T satanic you stupid prick. I loved this btw. very good and factual. although i must say.. Oblivion FTW for best video game =P

  • 1/4th of the population? Isn't that a bit much?

  • rpgs arent satanic!!!!!!!

    you stupid bitch

  • You are all possessed by SATAN.

    And pedobear lulz

  • @snylekkie Yes, all of us will now go paint satanic symbols on our walls and make a love shrine to the devil. Got any wood? Or cow horns that i could paint red?

  • I'm not a table top gamer, but that is why I like Marrowind, go anywhere do anything.

  • d and d is not satanic is just a imaginary game played by people of all ages ive play4ed for 7 years im 18 now my main dm is 44 years old my point prooved anyone can play

  • Is this gourgetown in texas?Because if so Im going there.

  • no, it is in indiana.

  • So this game they are playing it manually n with acting i.e role play...allow they to act ...be imaginative....n discover hidden talent.....

by looking at them playing...i.e never played before...I dont think its satanic...players must always remember its just a board game n acting like the real movie actor but not get paid that much...only gain memories..friendship...etc...

  • the reason I did this video was because I was in a college course for journalism and media production. This is the beginning of a documentary film idea that i started, and I got an A on the project. Yeah, it's unfinished, and I said Arneson's name wrong. But I really liked doing it and I would like to make it a half hour piece someday including commentary from the groups that think the game is satanic.

  • YES, I still know people who think it is a satanic activity. I also know parents who won't let their kids play once they see the game has imaginary magic. I was and still am apalled at the very thought of this game being satanic and this was a way I could vent and politely show my viewpoint on the matter. I do not think the game is satanic, I didn't want to just sit in front of the camera and say that. So I interviewed some people and explained why people like the game so much.

  • If anyone wants to read up on why the idea of the game got labeled satanic, search the web for the articles in the video. People call us geeks and idiots for playing these games, and I think we should return the favor to them. This was my way of doing that.

  • i dont think you should have started with the whole satan thing.Pulling's son was unstable and killed himself because of that.also the only time anything satanic is in DnD is when a player or DM puts it there.there are demons in DnD if the players choose to put them there, but they are never forced to play with demons.also DnD handbooks always clasifide demons as Evil and something generaly bad,so in a round about way DnD speaks against satan by saying"hey those are bad"

  • sorry for the butchered grammer but i had to chop up my comment to make it fit the 500 character limit

  • i was not trying to say that d&d was satanic. i was trying to prove that it is not satanic
