  • Wow, the waves are really, really, really slow! I guess combining fresh water with the cold with the shallows makes for very slow waves.

  • alaia

  • A surfer must have stolen IWillCriticiseYou's girlfriend, which is understandable, so lets all be a little more understanding.. no worries dude you'll find another one just keep her away from beaches next time. Major props to you dedicated hardcore lake surfers! I thought we had had it bad with gnarly cold, inconsistent swells and great whites in norcal but damn.. you make me look like a so-cal surfer! Keep up the stoke guys you've got more of that than most of us ever will.

  • @IWillCriticiseYou says the person who sucks dick at sports. You probably play videogames all day. And if you think surfing is gay why the fuck did you click on this video?

  • @jwenn1908 Technically 'yes', freshwater is less buoyant. The waves are (size for size) shorter in period than ocean waves. Hence the need to 'milk it'.

  • I;m stoked for you guys. You make the most of what you got and you gotta admire that. Cheers to you and I hope more swells come your way. Over and out from crowded southern California.

  • @wave60 Great hear nice comments from people out west. lived in Seattle for years but came back to be around the nice chilled out Midwesterners I grew up with. Duluth is where it's at. Maritime climate, hills like San Francisco, in Minnesota. Digging it.

  • IWillCriticiseYou, if u think surfings the gayest sport, well than ur gay! Surfing is awsome. Ok so think of it this way, u have a favorite sport, then some jack wagon coment on ur video of that sport that it is gay.. Grow up dude

  • Why do you guys take off so slowly? It seems like you're having to pump for speed the second you catch the wave.

Does it have something to do with it being freshwater, therefor being less buoyant?

  • surfing is the gayest sport ever, did you guys leave your handbags on the beach...PRICKS

  • @IWillCriticiseYou nah mate, left 'em in your mums bedroom right after i pumped her senseless

  • How many times a year will it break on average?

  • @SleepingGaint At this spot, maybe 2-4 times per season (Nov - Apr)

  • craziness....

  • been surfing since i'm 6 years old, grew up in southern california, surfed all over the world BUT I wouldn't even attempt that water temp and wind chill. sorry, looks frikin astonishingly butt cold, just not a Viking i guess...

  • they wait all year for the same waves i see almost daily

  • Thats ocean surf, not a lake.

  • stay stoked my friends

  • I'm going to write a song: "Minnesota Dreaming"

  • At least you don't have to worry about those damn sharks.

  • once in a lifetime this happens.

  • yeah surfing is xool.

  • Grew up there! Can't wait to return and surf freshwater after practicing here in Northern California!

  • i would never expect to surf in minnesota, pretty nice :D

  • kooks

  • I'd rather be ice fishing.

  • how are there better waves in minnesota than in norcal?

  • @gwawesomeify there isnt

  • Love that last long wave shot!!

  • HOW!!!! IT'S A LAKE!!!!!

  • hell yeah!

  • Fresh water lake waves . kool , but dis ' ain't my backyad in Honolulu ! feel it brah !

  • Is that Lester's?

  • I never knew that there was surf in the lakes

  • cold water, a lake, freezing temps = gorgeous waves.

much respect from the Gulf Coast of Florida

  • There's still snow on the ground in Minny in April. Gotta love the Great Lake surfers.

  • 00:51 dude tried to get pitted right on

    !!!!!!!!

  • COLD

  • you guys do know this is more crazy because the water is in the high 30 to mid 40's right

  • Looks awesome! Iv'e never wanted to try surfing because iv'e always been kinda scared of the ocean, But you don't have to worry about sharks or being pulled out to see on a lake!

  • Where is this area on the coast? I am from mn and want to very badly be able to surf there but I don't know where the spots are. Please help me out ! : )

  • Mushy and slow af! That looks so hard to surf

  • clean lefts in MN, nice!

  • SHARK!!

  • I can safely say that I have surfed smaller crappier waves in the mighty Pacific. Freshwater surf has always fascinated me.

  • i didn't realise lakes could have waves!

  • Can they even feel their feet after 5 minutes in the water?

    Wow.

  • lol snow

  • cool waves .ha good vid thanks

  • looks really fun. never expect that from a lake

  • @itsBluex A "lake" as big as Kentucky. More like "inland sea' all it would need is salt.

  • SSUX NO BARREL :(

  • Awesome video but god that water must be freazing and the air blowing in your face doesn't help

  • Great video

  • I feel like you kinda need a shorter board to ride these waves..

  • Just surfed Seol Choix, in the UP of Michigan. Would never give out our hidden spot past Manistique but it sure was quiet, awesome camping, good size for the SW that built. Nice points and slabs to maneuver around.

  • looks like there having a good time which is all that matters

  • keep California dremen! it's just a midwestern freshwater lake! i swam fearlessly in lakes all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania! This one is just a little bigger.

  • That looks fun. How big can it get on the Great Lakes?

  • this is better than the east coast...

  • @hyperdunked5 Well i can't say, some years we get a steady knee to thigh, when storms come, usually above chest, hurricane....well over head (Ocean City, NJ)

  • @skyeric875 yea but i live in nc and there are so many tourist and people like that it makes surfing hard this place has no1

  • Cool! The lake is very visible. I do not think the sea is salty unlike. In the middle of winter as it is so spicy.

  • thats super chill.

  • Those waves actually aren't that bad

  • sorta looks like groveling, those waves have little power, even on those longboards the waves are hard to stay on.... BUT mad props for the passion (california surfer-disclaimer). I have groveled on FAR FAR worse, if I were in minnesota I'd be looking for this stuff for sure!

  • wow! i had no idea that a lake could break like that. real nice waves.

  • better surf than florida?? thats sad...

  • Looks like a fun day!

  • looks just like my chicago secret spot

  • You got any thing for Arizona?

  • Fuck I surf every day in sw washington and we never get that clean of waves

  • @AllLuckNoSkill come up north to westport. i just moved there from santa cruz and its just as good as down there sometimes better

  • Love the music, what is the name of the track?

  • THERE'S WAVES IN THE GREAT LAKES?!?!?!?!?!

  • The Junction. That is so funny. Never heard of a section being refered to as a junction but I like it. Totally mid-west.

  • way too cold.

  • Lake superior is a beast! Almost 500 miles long and over 200 miles across. Over 1,000 feet deep. It never gets warmer then 55 degrees. Lots of cool history with haunted light houses. She's named " The lake who doesn't give up her dead". Kinda creepy...

  • holy sheet 35F??? thts dry suit temperatures!

  • you get thirsty while surfin and you just take a drink

  • tip my hat to great lakes surfers- water at 50 degrees or below is fucking COLD and to go out and catch some waves means you have some stoke. bravo.

I live here in texas and we get some nice winter surf but the water is not near as cold as the great lakes..

    surf on !

  • @nootaramus

50 degrees isn't cold at all. Try winter surf in NJ.

  • KOOKS

  • @PHXsuns13n8f1s You gotta love these internet tough guys, especially someone from arixona calling someone else a kook.

  • Cool!!!!

You guys are brave. Loved the vid.

  • song??

  • that is a pretty long left for the great lakes. and yall aint gotta worrry bout any sharks

  • dude you guys rock!

  • You guys ever get tubed in a lake>?, looks like a decent enough size and definitely great fun, I'd be out there like a shot.

  • better waves than socal today

  • damit man...not bad for a lake, dont mind all the "surfers" that talk shit, they are the real posers. Been surfing my whole life and any body that loves the water and waves as much as i do is a surfer in my book.

  • @superstockballer21 Amen bro! I've been surfing for 3 years but I surf 4 times a week! more than all my pro friends.

It's about the love of the water and ride my friend.

    Thanks for keeping it real!

  • @Riggro thats right man! stay real.

  • the kook factor is strong in this video

  • @Terbamafoo Kook factor is also strong in your post.

  • dude this is awesome, i cant surf but having body-boarded growing up in So-Cal, these waves are good for a great lake, and trust me, not having to worry about the disgusting puke sensation when saltwater is creeping down your throat is a great thing.

  • @fabiopm

    Es un lago.

  • @fabiopm sorry, but it doesn't sound like you surf at all. This is a lake, in the middle of the continent, and these guys are out there in the snow. That's amazing to me! I grew up surfing in Southern California. I don't suppose you have any idea what it's like to be out there in that cold with that much rubber on. It's amazing they can move at all. Thanks for the video!

  • @EasyDayRay Well I do realise it's lake, I'm not from the US but I'm aware Minnesota has no ocean coast, and I saw the snow, I realise it's probably colder than Tasmania or J-Bay, and i agree with you - that's pretty awesome.

I just said that the guy isn' much of a surfer that's all, because yes I am a surfer, much much better than this dude, so I can tell.

Anyways, the junction is the best part of a wave in my opinion, wether you like it or not.

  • @fabiopm what the fuck is a junction? fucking kook

  • @sickynarnar Yeah I knew I was probably using a word that doesn't really exist in english lol...Since I don't know how to explain it, go to 0:37 and see for yourself.

That's the perfect spot for a final snap of even an aerial. One man's opinion.

  • @fabiopm , Fabio, I just want to make a point on the junction that u mention... sure it can be the best part on a wave if you have a smaller board than a long board, the wave has a powerful lip and your body is not freaking stiff cuz the water temp, just my 2 centsss.....

  • @fabiopm how r they supposed to get good at surfing when thr is very unreliable surf

  • @fabiopm this on a lake.....the waves are pretty decent for a lake

  • @fabiopm It's not Hawaii Dude. This is pretty rock and roll for Lake surf. I do agree about the junction comment.

  • @fabiopm leave the guy alone, my god he likes to surf you dont need to critisize him...big ego much? surfing needs more love and less critisism. hes a surfer, maybe not "as good as you", but he is a surfer, so back the hell off.

  • @fabiopm lol.... they dont live in cali or hawaii dude they cant just go surf everyday they dont get the advantage to just say hey ill go surf today and get good they have to wait and wait and wait

  • @fabiopm junction? hahah junction. yeah i love the junction of the wave. kook

  • @fabiopm He is a great surfer, and you can go suck on a dry nut

  • @fabiopm well when the water is just above freezing id pull out too instead of risking having to paddle back out

  • @fabiopm way to be a smart ass..

  • @fabiopm Looks like he is relaxing to me.

  • @fabiopm ok tuff guy, why don't you slap on a wetsuit and show us how its done in 35 degree water? I bet you don't even have the balls to step in that water. Only a punk would say "this guy isn't much of a surfer" because real dudes know he's out there getting stoked in freezing weather no matter what.

  • @nelsondln Well, i've surfed in South Australia and Peru during the winter, so I know what it's like to dip yours balls into frigid waters. And i wore a wet suit, just like this guy is wearing. And none of that make any of us "tuff guys".

  • @fabiopm Shut your face

  • I didnt know tht a lake could get waves more than 2 feet!!!!! Tht is the mOst awesome thing ever

  • holy crap i never knew the lakes had waves! thats sick!

  • its stoney point

  • Keep surfing, please share this location.

  • What a great break.

  • these waves are great. especially for a lake

  • I live a Dana Point, CA its warm and nice waves and long rides... threesum lol but looks like fun to be cold i like the cold so

  • You can be surfing the Lester River until the surf subsides, then go downhill skiing at a ski resort less than an hour later. Who can ask for more?

  • Brilliant, surfing on a lake and better waves then the northsea in holland :P (although we also get some good waves now and then)

  • I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil and I would love to surf this. To bad were pussies against the cold >.<

  • thats great - I love it.

  • Shit.... there is still snow on the ground you must have balls of steel..... retracted somewhere up near your heart. But never realized people surfed on Superior that is awesome.

  • water temp?

  • @surfsoccerart

It's early, so no more than 35F.

  • @superiorsurf Man that's COLD. I'm a San Diego surfer, and we think we have it cold here! You guys are gnarly for sure.

  • What a shit load of neoprene surfing... XD

  • Wow! not bad

  • these waves break smoother than the gulf of mexico

  • favorite lakes video!

  • Never see waves like that on the south shore in Wisconsin. Been thinking about exploring the U.P. up by ontonagon soon. If you know any spots, I'll take em.

  • nice.. but i would just use a phreakin 5.8 shortboard and rip that wave out...

  • nice wave

  • best thing about surfing lake superior: getting a mouthful of water is amazing :-)

gonna miss the north shore when I graduate

  • I'm from Oceanside, CA. Damn...next time I think it's too small or cold I'll think of this vid. You guys are core!

  • Espectacular.

    Hermosa ola!!!!

  • Wow!!! Those waves are beautiful!

  • where exactly in Minnesota is this?!

    awesome!

  • Lake Superior

  • haha i love it. lets be real tho, this spot isnt a secret anymore... blame vince

  • Never thought of surfing the great lakes. Don't have to worry about shark attacks either.

  • That's awesome, looks perfect for my fish. I have surfed bigger waves in Maryland but none as long clean and perfect. Great Video!

  • i live here in michigan and ive always dreamed of surfing the lakes, you all inspire me

  • Looks like such a peaceful surfing spot :) id like to go one day... :)

Looks like a place to get away and relax :)

  • Good for you guys! way to keep the stoke. Honestly this looks no different than most breaks here in NY 75% of the days of the year, temperature included haha

  • im from newport beach ca and that was a killer freshwater break!!! does it break in summer?

  • usually november through april is the best. in the summer the waves are rare and honestly ive never seen em this clean.

  • That is amazing! Looking at that I would have never guessed it was a lake, looks more like the west coast surf out this way. Great vid.

  • Very cool. Nice lookin' lefthander at the end!

  • I'm happy for you guys. You make the most out of having no ocean. I hope you guys get more swells coming your way and aloha from California..

  • I can't see shit. What the hecks up with this video?

  • Never mind, sorry about that. I had it on HQ and not normal. Please ignore my previous post. Nice surfing by the way!

  • For being fresh water sets, those were pretty good!

  • surf in a lake=cold

  • its not like that on the u.p. side

    is it?

  • Even more-so. You just need to know where to look, and when.

  • nice sets

  • is very great, pa ser un lago sale buena la olita

  • Not much power to the waves but i would kill to have those waves in Jersey!

  • you get alot better waves in jersey dumbass
