I saw that show and I nearly spit at the TV. While she disliked the liberals, she despised Conservatives. She would've ripped new assholes into people like Beck, Coulter, etc. When Bush Jr. called for the Patriot Act, or even the Bail Outs in Aug. of 2008, she would've taken a blow torch to his balls. Seriously. Conservatives like to legislate laws that control intellectual and moral life of individuals. From Pro Life all the way to Censorship, the list is endless.
Ayn Rand realized that the "left verses the right" was one big distraction. More people need to start recognizing this clever slight of hand they are trying to pull on us.
Looks like folks like us are in the minority big time...57 views?? This country is fucked. I agree that Ayn would have much to disagree with G.B. & R.L....however, who else is exposing the communists around Obama? Nobody. Who else is looking out for individual rights on a national level???? Even though I listen to G.B. (not R.L.), I agree, Ayn Rand would have nothing to do with these so called "conservatives" who drape themselves with socialist leaning religious ideas...great vid!
The conservatives preach self-sacrifice to God. But, b/c God doesn't exist, they become selfish on Earth (the Protestant work ethic), while still paying lip service to service to God.
The Liberals, sensing their hypocricy, look for a more consistent way to sacrifice. They do away with God, and replace the poor as the object of sacrifice. The poor are real. This leads them to become socialists...
... Then, the Conservatives, originally, actually opposed to the Liberals only because they're cutting in on their monopoly on the ethics of self-sacrifice, but not realizing that thats why they're opposed, begin to believe that they're opposed to the socialists because they're capitalists. So they pick up Ayn Rand.
They don't realize that eventually, even if they did win the economic argument, theyd have to reject Rand eventually in order to keep the idea of service to God alive.
I think the confusion lies in the fact that Ayn Rand was a very vocal whore for capitalism. This locks right into the right wing talking points. Ayn Rand quotes a lot of Mises stuff when it comes to economics. The conservatives use the exact same rhetoric.
Right now, in my mind, this was probably one of Ayn Rand's biggest mistakes. I think she was too much of a jaded anti-statist. Her personal experience going through the Bolsheviks, in her youth, ruined her.
If you listen to that interview you're talking about. She said that the conservatives in her time hated her because of the fact that she was an atheist, and also that she really wasn't like what the Modern Day "Conservatives" are today. I use that term loosely because these guys are in no way conservative at all. I don't particularly agree with Ayn Rand's theory of Objectivism, but she was in no way what the Becks, Limbaughs, or Hannity's are today.
jennifer burns didn't say that, what she said was "Atheism was one the most controversial part of her whole career.". It was jon Stewart who expressed how the right would use her. oh, and she wasn't like the right of her time either. so none of those assholes ever had it correct in her eyes.
@buckeyefan05: I don't understand how a person not agree with the principal ideas of Objectivism. It is tantamount to how we've survived as species. But, hey, to each his own. The reason I wanted to interject here, is that when I see a Tea Party sign that says "I am John Galt", my first thought was "that guy is the most delusional person to think that Ayn Rand would even lend her ideas to the Tea Party." Yet, he understood nothing about how Ayn hated "Mob Rule mentality."

Great video, I totally agree.
