it's great to see people from all over the entire globe to come here and appreciate the unspeakable greatness of oscar peterson. such unanimous respect is rarely seen in the youtube comments section - but it's hard to find a single thing that isn't short of the best of the best in oscar. rip, oscar, you have changed the world :-)
Oscar has been my musical hero since 1962. I saw him for the first time on the Steve Allen Late Show and was truly amazed how one piano player could sound like two piano players. Somehow, his playing and arrangements of songs did improve [at least to my ears] and today I still listen to this master on a daily basis. God Bless you Oscar. I hope to meet you one day.
Thank you GAPC. Oscar Peterson has got to be the greatest jazz pianist ever because of all the great albums & great musicians he played on & inspired. All those albums would not be nearly as great as they are if it had not been for Oscar Peterson. A true genius and It will be very difficult for someone in the future to equal or top him - or all the other Jazz musicians Oscar played with in Jazz's 'Golden Age.'
What a tribute this is! Search around here for some fabulous examples of his talent going back decades ... don't miss the terrific "You look good to me"
The piece is entitled "When Summer Comes" and I would have to agree that it is one of the most beautiful things you will hear. It was the first song that I played when I heard of his passing . . .
You're right. OP is also a great composer; just remember the Canadiana Suite, Hymn to Freedom, or Noreen's Nocturne, for example (there is a lot of beautiful compositions)

I'm glad we have You Tube. I'm 73, and just think, 10 years ago you could not have seen and listened to all this great stuff so easily. Wow. Thanks!

Oscar had a first rate mind. That gave him more windows to open.

Hi. Can you post the rest of the documentary?? I'm specifically looking for the part when he reminisces about his American debut at Carnegie Hall.

So this is the Canadian accent. For a moment I thought that the reporter was British! Hes Canadian!
SebastienLoong 2 years ago
The reporter is British. Peterson is Canadian.

@gr00veN1k1 - He's not a reporter - that's Christopher Plummer - the legendary actor and friend of OP's. :) Just so you would know.

@gr00veN1k1 if by reporter, you mean the narrator he is canadian also - it is actor Christopher Plummer

No wonder, to understanding the unnameable feeling, you have to be a musician.

What an absolute genius he was. The passion that he gave to all his recordings/
concerts was outstanding. I watched the video and was moved to tears.

Oscar was an incredible person. What is the name of the piece he is playing at 6:50? It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
