It's sad that this was once acceptable, what goes through a parents mind to think that this is ok. Spanking is a result of bad parenting. My parents taught me right from the beginning and if I did get in trouble, they took the time to sit with me and talk to me about what I did and explained to me why it was wrong and it usually resulted in a loss of a certain privilege for a while which really sucke.
