I like everything about this. Manson is a real artist, and it's a tip of his hat to the older generation as having relevance and meaning today. He's continuing the thread of revolution. And the video makes a much better music video then as a movie. This way it's no talk and all action.

Manson is well intentioned, he grew up on the Doors, and Morrison is his favorite ever. He seems to have learned the lessons of individuality, and the fuck the world mentality that Jim had. @Guitarscreech06 For me, the irony is in the fact that Marilyn Manson is or was the poster boy for what was supposedly extreme in middle America's eyes. Jim Morrison really was extreme, in every sense of the word. His words were as far as one could go as an artist, his stage act was as extreme as one could go. I could use Marilyn Manson's shitty distorted vocals in this song as a metaphor for that entire idea. Jim Morrison actually was screaming his guts out, whereas Manson has to fake it.

I'm sure Jim Morrison and Manson respectively have equally myopic raving fan boys, but both artists had their flaws and both expressed themselves freely. I'd leave it at that. I will say that I'd hazard a guess Manson did this song out of respect so you both may share a love for Jim Morrison :) Personally I think he was a vivid poet, but an unremarkable singer (IMO of course)

@concantenation My whole problem with this song... (maybe you're not a musician) Marilyn Manson is using distortion on his voice. You could breathe into a mic with distortion and it would create a bunch of "noise"(a la Chino Moreno, who can really scream BTW). It's a pussified way out, basically. Because Marilyn Manson can't truly scream his guts out using his own voice and distorting it by screaming. It's false and I'm appalled by it, quite frankly. Authenticity for the Win. None here, tho

Some of my favorite artists have been criminally ignored (commercially, not critically) BECAUSE they're typically beyond the realm of what is considered too extreme for our culture.
