Don't get discouraged! It definitely took some time, maybe months before I was able to smooth things out a little, and probably a full year to get comfortable with improvising and not thinking too hard while dancing.
The turning point for me came after coming to truly *love* funk music and all those b-boy tracks that you hear in b-boy battles -- at the end of the day, what drives great top rock is a love for music, and the desire to dance to it in the only way you know how...
How long did it take for your top-rocks to get that smooth? I'm also trying to come up with my own top-rock combos and it's pretty hard to connect each transition to another and make it clean.
Dude... i'm going to bless you for this video.... just an awesome tutorial.... i was struggling with footwork for a long time until i found this video :) Keep going on man.. do the good work :)
wow very nice, i'm a dancer that has focused on hip hop and popping so i've always hung around bboys and have even danced with bboys for shows and stuff but I have never learned how to and have always wanted to... this vid is great. The only thing I would say is that BBoys originated from James Browns dancers... at least that's the history that i learned. 5 stars bro this is awesome. You're a good dancer and a great teacher.
thanks man. Yeah, b-boys def took a lot of inspiration from James Brown... just look at the songs we dance to. "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose (Jungle Groove Remix)" is a classic and one of my favorites--check it out!
I'm sort of a stylehead so I don't practice power as much. But I definitely recommend to aspiring b-boys and b-girls that you try to develop both style and power... though if I had to choose just one--it'd have to be style
popping and locking aren't part of b-boying. Popping and locking are funkstyles which came out of the west coast... sometimes they're grouped together with b-boying under the name "breakdance"
