  • As I can see, people don't read these books before they ban them. I read to kill a mockingbird, and it took place in 1930s Alabama, so of course there's gonna be rascism.

  • @dawnphoenix13 in christianity, witchcraft is considered sacrilegious.

  • I know a guy who grew up in a Catholic family and had to read Harry Potter in secret. Yup.

  • perks<3

have you read it! if so how was it!?!?!

  • @ktipton4life Yes! I did and I looooooved it :)

  • @ktipton4life Perks is the greatest book ever. End of story.

  • why the heck is Harry Potter banned ???

  • I live in Australia, and there was a thing in my local library about this. Did you know that "Little Women" is banned in some countries? It's unbelievable. Seeing these books, most of them being ones I knew and read, being said as 'banned' was really heartbreaking. It's like they don't care about literature.

  • I absolutely love your view point. Honestly , if I was an author and my book was banned for a B.S. reason ( and completely irrelevant from the storyline) , I would take that as a slap(and or spit) in the face. They shouldn't ban literature at all because if you don't like it or you think it "isn't appropriate" then don't read it. Ugh, I hate idiotic people. Great points thought. The Hunger Games was fantastic and kinda violent(not overly descriptive about it). So where does sex come into play?

  • You remind me of the main character in The Lovely Bones movie except your hair is much redder♥ WHAT? Twilight is not being bannned! It's the most popular books and movie series here. Maybe your not here in the US? Well in my opinion I fully disagree with Banned Books week because I've read much worse books. The hunger games had no sexual content what so ever. Twilight ahd nothign to do with religion and I just think it's really stupid to ban books. Like really? That's just unbelievable.

  • I'm writing a book since febuary 2011 and I want to publish it one time in the future. Deals with demons & so on, so it's propably going to be banned, too x)

    stupid thing.

  • @namibiyo Your writing a book ?? Class !! When your done I might read it ..

  • @twirl124 yeah, I do :D but it's in German so... o.ô Sorry for that :D

  • Mein Kampf, Hitler's book is banned as well.. which I think is logic, because it inspires people to hate other races. It isn;t just a story like the ones you mentioned but it is about hate against almost the entire world!

  • The Kite Runner is a phenomenal book, honestly it will break your heart. It's truly one of those books that stay with you forever and improves you as a person. Definitely a book EVERYONE needs to read!

  • There was an exhibition in Edinburgh a year ago about banned books. There was a list of the top banned books, His dark materials being in the top 5. Sometimes I understand, for example, all german propoganda books were banned during WW2, but seriously, banning the Hunger Games because it is 'sexually explicit'?! There is romance, but it is not portrayed in a particually sexual way.....

  • Twilight does have religious quotes in the whole series and that tends to make it a hell of a lot worse but the violence IDK about that. Crank is to awesome. (In my library at school they don't have that but they have the last book -.-) But the book is real. Harry Potter? I really don't mind about that. My mom hates them. Hunger games? My school has the whole SERIES. To Kill a Mocking bird is great..IDK why they banned that. The last book I never read...

  • Two books that really interested me were "All quiet on the western front" which was banned in Nazi Germany and "Johnny got his gun' which while not banned, had no new reprints in the US during WW2. Both were apolitical anti war books.

  • Generally I know that in the states there really haven't been any books totally banned as far as the book not being allowed to be bought and sold. Now there are some churches and schools recommend that the parents control the reading of their children and sometimes have a list of books they consider offensive, and may go as far as not allowing them on their property. The truth is that an Adult in the US , no matter what anyone says, can go to anyorder any book .and read it.

  • What?! I've never heard a word about Harry Potter and Hunger Games being banned, I've seen them in bookstores. When did these books get banned?

You've brought up some great points about censorship in literature and how it is cliched for deep issues to have an influence on a teens mind, which I rekon is ridiculous, and is way behind the times. Your point about Hunger Games @ 3:21 is great.

    Cheers :D

  • I don't think the ppl who think those books need to be banned actually have read them. I know a girl who told me that the principal of her school (she went to a religious school) read the first few pages of Harry Potter and said it was teaching the kids about witchcraft. And the sad part is I was young when she told me that and I listened to her and went around saying Harry Potter was bad... then I grew up a little bit and wanted to find out for myself n now they are my all time favorite series!

  • In fourth grade my class read Bridge to Terabithea, in a Catholic school. I doubt that it is satanistic!

  • Give "Last Exit To Brooklyn" by Hubert Selby Jr. or William S. Burroughs' "Naked Lunch" a try. : )

  • Wow Twilight and Harry Potter books banned HAHAHA are you serious??!??! I thought those were Blockbuster hits with kids? And To Kill A Mockingbird was necessary school reading for me as a child in school. What the hell is up with Australia that these kids books are BANNED??!

You wanna read some BANNED books? Look for:

-The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews Volume 1 and 2

  • @fernandoiscrazy This isn't specifically Australia, I had a look on ALA which is American

    It is quite bizarre though

  • Just goes to show we really are living in a communist state it's just done so sophisticated that most are unware of it.

  • I like the way you say class. I could just put that shit on a tape recorder and fall asleep to it.

  • where are these books banned? like in australia?! i've never even heard of this! how crazy

  • @ellagriffin Not sure where specifically, but these are books that have been banned at some point

  • i think sometimes people should remember that a book that is deemed to be inappropriate and not suited for public release can at times have the opposite affect. Naturally of course the fact that a particular book is banned, causes people to inquire into whyyyy such a book was banned. Catcher in the rye was banned in public schools due to its use of profanity. what happens then....you ask?

Curiosity kicks in...6 months later its deemed essential reading lol

  • Aside from the absurdity of banning books in general, the act also tends to have the exact opposite effect of what is intended. You tell someone not to look down while they're at a great height - chances are they probably will, and they'll be more tempted to do since you mentioned it!

It's the same with any banned or censored material, whatever the medium - if nothing else, people making a fuss over the content only draws more potential readers to the material! Curiosity always wins out, hehe

  • i tottally agree with u about bannin books

  • Read 120 Days of Sodom by DeSade, and see if you still think that no book should be banned -- oh wait you're in UK and can't get a copy.

  • @anothercountyheard OO!! Can you please give the story line !! (i want to know why its banned !)

  • @twirl124 the words 'sadism' and 'sadist' come from his name. the books contain extensive graphic descriptions of sexual murder. they are examples of books that should be banned.

  • What is the point of banning a book when it's so easy to get a copy of the internet.

I can't believe to kill a mocking bird was one of them when the whole point of the book is to stop racists people and to inform.

Great vids by the way :)

  • *Hunger Games lol

  • I definitely agree with you that banning books is RIDICULOUS! I have read many of the books you have mentioned, and I have no idea why some people would think they should be banned. Teens today are faced with the same obstacles in real life, so why censore what they read? And how on earth is the Hibger Games considered "sexually explicit"?! It's totally innocent... I totally agree with you!

  • @NishaTheBee I know! Censoring things that we see day-to-day is just pointless. The Hunger Games is DEFINITELY not sexual! Whoever banned it has no idea what they are talking about. I doubt many people who try to ban books even bother to read them.

  • You raise an interesting point: books are banned becaude of their content, but treatment if that content is actually more important. Any book that features drug abuse shows its negative effects, it doesn't glorify it or encourage people to do it. Banning Mocking Bird for racism is crazy because the book comletely condemns racial discrimination. People try to ban books because they want to enforce an ideological viewpoint on others; it also shows a lack of respect for readers' intelligence

  • @smooshie3 Exactly. It's ridiculous seeing books banned for the content which is being condemned, not encourages. It's just a shame, really.

  • Lol, what does it mean for a book to be banned? I mean, you can still buy them right? And I haven't read anything sexually explicit in Hunger Games or Twilight either. :P

  • @Jasmijnlovesyou Yes, you can still buy them. Generally books are banned or challenges within schools and libraries.

  • I agree, banning books is stupid. Some of the challenged books you mentioned are crazy to be there!! I mean, come on, Harry Potter?

  • Banning books has the opposite effect on myself and probably most people with at least average intelligence... it simply increases our to-be-read piles.

  • @ulala424 Exactly my point with those books I want to read that I mentioned at the end :)

It gives those books so much more publicity and well, makes me want to go out and read them even more.

    Gosh, we are so rebellious!

  • I love you and all of your videos! I subbed! And please message me so we can start a book club! And I'm 12 and your my favourite YOUTUBER!

  • @KosareenaS Thank you so much! I appreciate your support and love for my videos :)

  • I think banning books is completely pointless. I mean has anyone who wanted to read Harry Potter not managed it?

  • @Crazface222 I know! Harry Potter in particular, I mean, come on.
