@thevampirelock you're very welcome. in fact, i have the second lightest case in the world, so i'm doing just fine. for your information, the national institute of health (the NIH) is doing research on the subject, and i'm very glad to be a part of it.
@12ori12 Awesome! Seriously, I hope they find out more, and if you hear any new developments, tell me. Maybe I'll eventually get enough material to make a second video =)
@thevampirelock The research involves many people around the world, and they find out more and more things about Proteus Syndrom every day. It's a part of their research about the human gene. If i find out more about the syndrom I will let you know. Hope it suites you :)

Can this syndrome effect just 1leg&foot?we are trying to find out whats wrong with my step sis,,she has 1leg twice size as other&her foot is kind of like a monkeys(not being mean it is),her mum refuses to discuss it,so we are trying to find out what deformity she has,can anyone help??
It can basically effect any part of the body. She may have a less rare condition like neurofibromatosis, but it needs to be checked out. If possible, try to get her to a specialist. Some of these diseases can cause blood clots and such.
I didn't want to mention it because I've heard from different sources that he wrote it and from others that it came from a longer poem, but he used it in his letters. I'm not sure which is actually true.
People are usually overlooked for their greatness inside because of what the outside looks like...Im not soo judgemental...I dont feel sorry for these people I feel as if we should take the time to discover and learn that we were all made the same way but we have different appearances...May God Bless
It's a charity that has doctors working for free, and they go around the world, especially to poorer countries, and fix cleft palettes and other facial deformities for no charge. It costs $200 an operation, and they run strictly on donations and charity fund raisers. They have a lot of work in Pakistan and India because cleft lips are so common.
I know how you feel, and I completely agree. I have kind of severe eczema on my arms and eczema on my face, and I could feel awful about myself, but you look at the suffering people and you realize that there are people who really need compassion. Have you ever heard of Operation Smile?
Sorry, I don't live in England, I live in New Jersey. Calm yourself, there's no need to get flustered. I pronounced it as it was spelt, if I had known that it's true pronunciation was different, I would have corrected it before I finalized my video.
my thoughts go out to the kid and his family and anyone else who has to live with this horrible stuff, for some reason all night ive been watching videos about deformations. normally id be like the next trash talking guy but i think that to make jokes about this you shoud go DIAF, anyway good job 5/5 :D.
Great work, hope you got an A! Have you read a book called "The True History of The Elephant Man" by Michael Howell and Peter Ford? It's a touching account of Joseph's life.
I got an A+, and I have to find that. I shall check amazon or barnes and noble, thanks for telling me about it ^-^ much appresiated, and thanks for the good grade XD
To answer your question on your message, (it won't send the reply on the message area) is it Achondroplastic dwarfism? I can't spell it, I'm going by how it sounds
My great-nephew has proteus. Fortunately, he's had it carefully watched, so he's mostly lived a normal life, except having more surgeries than anyone any of us have known, and having to have a few toes amputated... Plus, he has severe cramps in his hand from time to time. He has to be checked out all the time to watch for more tumors.
Conferences? I think his parents are trying to avoid seeing people who are more progressed in it... They don't want to think about it if they can avoid it, as he still looks mostly normal right now.
Ah I see, there are different types, so he probably won't end up as many of them do. It would be good for his parents to go to, so they can learn of treatments and such.
Great project. I feel sorry about people who have rare diseases that can't be cured. I wish something could be done for them, maybe people who have it right now will provide information to find the cure in the future.
Heh, my eyes were getting a tad bit watery. I may not show too much interest in this stuff, but I'm happy that there are people like you in existence. If there weren't, this world would have died a long time ago in every aspect of the word. I hope people keep making strives to cure these horrible diseases, and help those whom fall victim to them. I'm sure you'll be one of them.
Wow. You did a great job. I am doing a project on this now and I researched a lot and there is not one thing that I saw that you missed! Good job! Hope you got 100!
if you didn't get an A+ i will smack that teacher. you have exelent explaning and not to mansion the vieuw you give wile explaning the disease(pictures)
Thank you very much. This was done, as it says, for a science project last year, so yeah had to keep it short and quick so everyone's attention span was kept.
But think about it, poor people all over the world are living with this, and nothing yet can be done for them. I wasn't trying to scare, I'm trying you show people that others are suffering, you know what I mean? Thank you by the way. I appreciate the viewing and possitive comment
yeah i really hate people like that. I did this project for my science class so that I can get them to realize that real people are going through terrible ordeals like proteus syndrome. I guess it worked because some of my class was crying... including my teacher (he's a little sensative though)
I don't mind you commenting here at all. Go for it. I heard about that guy. I just wonder what Joseph Merrick would have looked like if he had been born in today's era. They definitely could have helped him a lot more and made his quality of life better.
i know all these errors and the technical thing he died of was a lack of air which resulted from his sleeping position and the age thing I knew already, but I said 29 because of the article. I had calculated 28 before but said 29 anyway x.x
One point of contention: Joseph Merrick died when he was twenty-seven (although the article released at the time of his death DOES say he was twenty-nine.)
Actually, he was twenty-eight when he died. Calculate the time of birth from the time of death. 1862 is the year of birth. His year of death was 1890.
I thought that until a few weeks ago, when someone constantly corrected my edits to the wikipedia article to 27. I wondered why, but he was born in August and died in April, before he had his twenty-eighth birthday.
My opinion is that Joseph Merrick had BOTH Neurofibromatosis and extreme Proteus.
