RENT is one the most inspirational musicals on EARTH. I'm a guy, and I HATE musicals...but when my sister was watching the movie and I had no choice but to watch it, I was quite impressed how it wasn't the usual girly musical. Renee is a really good version of Mimi, and I like Rosario Dawson as well. I hope to go see this show in Chicago sometime!

The best Mimi! Renee was probably one of the most convincing portrayals. Noooooooooooooo, she is definately not better than Daphne. Renee needs to loosen up a bit, and Daphne was really into the character, and I'm not saying Renee isn't, it's just she doesn't...move a lot. And she gives Mimi kind of an innocent kind of aura where Daphne made her kind of naughty. Which is how Mimi is supossed to be.
But i guess no one can meet the standards when it comes to the original cast.

RENT is one the most inspirational musicals on EARTH. I'm a guy, and I HATE musicals...but when my sister was watching the movie and I had no choice but to watch it, I was quite impressed how it wasn't the usual girly musical. Renee is a really good version of Mimi, and I like Rosario Dawson as well. I hope to go see this show in Chicago sometime!

I think she's a good Mimi, but I will always like Daphne Rubin-Vega, not because she was the original (which helps), but because her voice was the one chosen by the creator of RENT, not any of the others. Either way, Daphne fits the role best, in my opinion.

i so disagree djunosagune,renee has a good voice,but seariously,you gotta analyse light my candle,her acting is forced,nothing to do with rosario's.there might be a reason to choose her for the "final mimi on brodway",and it could be that the others weren't available or whatever.and it's probably not gonna be the last one,i think rent will be played forever! =)

@rorytibberon, really? I must disagree with you. I think Renee is brilliant. Her voice is beautiful and she can dance. And as far as her acting is concerned, I love it. Just the way .she says "what?" in light my candle is pretty amazing. she has good comic timing. and the pain on her face in without you, its heartbreaking. i like her.

The best Mimi! Renee was probably one of the most convincing portrayals. I mean, we all know that Daphne Rubin-Vega goes down in history as the original Mimi, and therefore she'll always be the original voice/face or Mimi....and I absolutely adore Rosario (who did an amazing job at portraying Mimi in both singing and acting). But Renee has to be to most endearing Mimi ever. There's a good reason why they chose her to play as the final Mimi on Broadway. She definitely earned it for me.

Weak attempt? Oh, I beg to differ! Daphne was one of the most powerful and sensual Mimis to ever prowl across that stage. Renee is beautiful and her voice is easier on the ears, but she is too mature and controlled for my taste. I could never believe her as a 19-year-old. dude i now, right? I mean your voice type isn't decided by your age. and she contributes a lot of good to the character of mimi. A friend once told me that with singing in theatre you have to act and have emotion. sounding good is just a bonus haha. she brings together both beautifully :]

Her voice sounds mature. There's a certain tone quality older voices have. And her vibrato sounds much stronger than anyone my age's. I'm not saying it's bad- I'm just saying, I understand what people are saying.

LOVE her. She has a great voice AND she's a good actress. People seem to forget that acting has a lot to do with the whole theatre thing. Mimi shouldn't just have a good voice but she should be believable. I believed her. There's definitely a reason why she was chosen for the FINAL broadway cast and not some of the other girls.

Renee is my fav Mimi! I love Rosario Dawson and the new Mimi Lexi Lawson. Daphne wasn't one of my favorites! Her voice sounds like it's cracking all the time.

oookkkk wellll.....i like Rosario sooo much better, its just something about her that gives off a better vibe to the whole character and she looks and acts much younger which is more of the Mimi presence.

well while I agree, you also have to take into consideration that RENT the movie was extremely Hollywood-ized, for lack of a better word. It's much different live on stage. I doubt Rosario's voice could handle Broadway quite the same.

Noooooooooooooo, she is definately not better than Daphne. Renee needs to loosen up a bit, and Daphne was really into the character, and I'm not saying Renee isn't, it's just she doesn't...move a lot. And she gives Mimi kind of an innocent kind of aura where Daphne made her kind of naughty. Which is how Mimi is supossed to be.
But i guess no one can meet the standards when it comes to the original cast.
She just needs to loosen up...

I really think Renee is the most fantastic Mimi. She has so much life and brilliance to her and just... I think she's perfect for it. I do really like most of the other Mimis (save Rosario Dawson, was never a fan), but I think Renee is far and away the best. Also she's got serious frakkin' abs!
