  • yeah its out on dvd, well worth a watch. also take a look at ashes to ashes, both series are very cleverly written and funny in parts

  • @sheffboy63 is it at the end of the last episode of the second season? i want to get the second season.

  • @dontlikecena8 this is the finale of life on mars series 2, the next series was called ashes to ashes think there was 3 series of that then when all was revealed. was a brilliant set of series i thought, gene hunt is a legend ;-)

  • does any body know if this comes on dvd?

  • what a good ending go sam back to annie

  • I always found it weird how everything changed after he went back to 2006, the streets, the tech and the music. It really did feel like going into the future.

  • They never explained what happened to Mya

  • You did not include the ending after the credits!

  • Comment removed

  • A man...jumps off a building. That's epic. For the UK.

  • God I love both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes to death.

  • "Take a look at the law man beating up the wrong guy" Always reminds me of Gene Hunt whenever I listen to Life on Mars (:

  • @HorseRiderJess1 - Ditto! And it probably also reminded Sam, while he was 'hearing' it in his head - which might explain why he suddenly smiles to himself at that particular moment ;)

  • Cant stop watching this - GMP come on!

  • @majortenn So why did you watch it then?

  • i love how this video started with the music. It made me kinda relaxed and giving me a good fealling :-). what the name of the song? please answer... :-)

    Nice vid

    Zeb

  • @TheZebzab Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Over the Rainbow

  • 1:56 "There's this officer . . . she's collecting stuff from colleagues who've suffered trauma."

:O I bet that's Alex from Ashes to Ashes!!

I love these series' too much

  • I always cry when i see the finale...you're right is such a powerful scene.

  • omg its so sad:( you watch him as he tries to find out why he is in 1973, and when he does return your like noo:( im so glad he goes back but also your like what about him and his family and friends in the present?:(

  • This really makes me cry its like its real :'(

  • the song over the rainbow is now stuck in my head :')

  • It totally was the best TV ending of all time.....It was so bittersweet, but we wanted him to leap, cause remember Nelson said something like "You know it's real if you can feel" and remember he cut himself at the end in the boardroom and couldn't feel it.....It brought the show fun circle and was so poetically beautiful but sad, cause it was suicide, but he wanted the oblivion over life, and we wanted it for him too...thank you for uploading this <33

  • Was voted as the best TV ending of all time. Nuff said.

  • Comment removed

  • The officer collecting stuff from traumatised colleagues.... Was that Alex?

  • @JadesVidz Yes.

  • @JadesVidz yeah it was Alex.....She had his file and tape sessions in her car in the pilot of ashes to ashes....Hope this helps <33

  • TO LIVE, WE MUST DIE!

  • Can i go back to 1973 ?.21 SINGLE and free lol ,time machine pleeeezzeeee

  • @TVCSD If you find that time machine you make sure to let me know yeah? Pleeeeeeeezzzeeee

  • 'There's this officer, she's collecting things from colleges who have suffered trauma, yeah she's called Alex Drake and half the times she's a it of an idiot'

  • Epic as all hell!

  • Okay just watched both seasons.. Can anyone tell me how exactly it ended cause im confused? was he mad an living in the 60's or could he somehow travel through time, by jumping of a building in the end, lol:P

But if he was mad, then i don't get it.. how could he know all those stuff from the future?:P

  • @discjockeyjole If you watch Ashes to Ashes it explains it finally, or you could just look it up and spoil it if you're desperate to know.

  • Actually, I liked the US version. AND I like the UK version. People are so damned caustic sometimes. I'm glad they had different takes on the story. If it were just a carbon copy it would be worthless to do. Besides, it gave me nearly 17 hours of getting to watch Gretchen Mol.

  • @NmDPlm31 I'd be fine with different takes of the story, but the US ending went toooo far. They completely ruined the meaning of the show, Mars was a metaphor, and in the US version I just don't even know how to explain...

  • Anyone on planet Earth do not watch the American verison of any BBC program why b/c it is always tv tacky tacky tacky

  • Perfect. If you've only suffered the US version, do yourself a favour and watch the original. Best ending for the best show ever.

  • lol, ending at the US version sucked!!!

  • @veke94 yeah you must be right..

after all,the US ending had a complete twist that Nobody saw coming, along with a great ending for the whole cast,

and the Uk version had the hero killing himself to get back.

yep, that uk version was sooo much better..lol!

    rollseyes.

  • @RobsMusicBox it was still pretty bad

  • OOOOHHHHH! This version was so beautiful! I cried so hard!

F*** the US version! This ORIGINAL version of LOM is BRILLIANT! John Simm is AMAZING! :D

  • Every time I watch this I cry me little eyes out! Amazing - so glad he went back, but just this would have been a great ending too. John Simms is the best British actor alive - you know that anything with him in is going to be quality.

  • good quality thanks for the upload

  • I was 14 years old when I first saw this and I fell in love with it. I am now 18 and still love it to pieces.I loved the first series too. This is my favourite ending ever out of any other tv show. This was also when I first heard of John Simm, and damn did i love the guy in this, he's now one of my favourite actors and this is my favourite show. The music in this show is awesome as well. Love it!!!

  • Oh my god, when Bowie's singing "but the film is a saddening bore" and he's there standing, Gooood. Perfect ending.

  • bbc dont even show this on tv anymore so why hey moaning like pussy about it being on you tube it dont bother me i have both box sets but for people who dont.

  • much better series than ashes to ashes one of the reasons is the relationship between sam and gene is better than alex and gene's.

  • @playfulpaul1985 You are probably right, But Ashes to Ashes is still great , if you compare it to most shows of all time.

  • @TheVetoSkreeemer i have recently watched ashes to ashes and i liked it more than i thought i would

  • @playfulpaul1985 Well It has it s own merits, both series are great, and have managed to be original, something very rare today, where everything is so redundant and copied. Be well man.

  • somehow it is a very touching ending...I have not watched another tv show after this ended.yup.not since.

  • I watched this and then i thought, it's unrealistinc cos no one kills themsefl like that, then i realised he's not killing himself, he's going home

  • Just watched the USA ending again. God that is bad. And I mean BAD. This is classic and so is Ashes to Ashes ending - been better if Sam had been there to welcome them into the Railway Arms - but you cant have everything!

  • I saw the end of the american version. Well that was rubbish if you compare it to the UK version.

Anyway, Life on Mars was a great TV show, and John Simm was really amazing (L)

@ThatThingByTheShed : I thought the same thing when I started to watch this show XD

  • @GiveMeVicodine what's the american ending?

  • @RandyRobbo

    They woke up on Mars...

  • @GiveMeVicodine i actually had to look it up cos i thought you were lying. it was bloody AWFUL!

  • @RandyRobbo Isn't it? - -' Actually, the first time I saw the american ending, I taught it was a parody or something like that, I mean, you can't seriously ruin such a good show just by doing a US version... I was wrong... Now I think that Sam Tyler jumped off the roof because he saw this rubbish american end ^^

  • So the Master used a Chameleon Arch again to turn into a cop.

  • I cry at the ending as well, but it also makes me feel sick. I really don't know what to make of it. The overall story is certainly very clever, but the ending gets me so shaken I have difficulty typing. I can't work out the message it's giving.

  • best series ....since auf wiedersen pet

  • Loved Ashes to Ashes and this was a great ending to a fab show. Mr. Simm is a great actor.

  • uh, he jumped. is this how all suiciders are? they jump once they can't feel?

  • The ending made it all look unreal, even when he was in the present

  • Without a shadow of a doubt LOM was my favourite show ever! I even spent an extra few Euro to but the actual Box for the box set! However..... although I enjoyed Ashes to Ashes, the ending of A2A (which was the answer to the whole thing) RUINED me being able to enjoy Life on Mars in the same way. It was poorly thought out and planned... and brought in too many of the Galex stuff. I feel like I'm betraying LOM ny saying this, but its just an honest opinion! LOM BRILLIANT THOUGH!

  • @bernardevans come on, the guy jumped off a building having recovered from a coma, there had to be an explanation for that didn't there? You don't survive that. Sam didn't, he died. His life in 2006 was basically dull compared to what he experienced in his coma - the purgatory of Gene Hunt. Anyway he spent 7 years in that world between 1973 and 1980, he married Annie Cartwright so it wasn't all bad.

  • Perfect.

  • why did he comit suicide?

  • @comedybenj Did you watch the whole show (series 1 & 2 ) ? Because if you watched , you wouldn't ask the question . But I'm gonna explain :

Sam finds out that 1973 was reality , and that 2006 was the dream and much more boring than the reality ,so he decides to leave 2006 behind him .

The fact he jumps from the roof is a reference to the first episode of the first series when he is on the roof with Annie and that she tells him "We all wanna jump sometimes ..."

    That's all fella ! :P

  • @Iantorchwood94 i've got it on dvd should i watch it?

  • @comedybenj Yep . You'd better , you're missin somethin fella ! :D

One of the best TV show I've ever seen , the actors are excellent , en John Simm in particular .

And if you watch it you'll really understand the things he says and the way he reacts to 2006 , the things which are written on his hostpital room's door :P

There are a lot of references in this sene that you can't understand if you didn't watch .

I'm shutin up me mouth , I'm gonna spoil yer on the show ... xD

  • Man, this was the best show ever, I loved both versions, though the American version comes out on top by a hair for me, but the original had the PERFECT ENDING, I don't think a series ever ended better than this

  • OMG i love john simm (like majorly) and i was just browsing Youtube and now i majorly want to go out and buy this ... like right now ! even though its midnight and all the shops are closed ... :'( i'll have to wait a few hours then ... i might not manage a few hours without him xxxx

  • it was so weird when he finally woke up, id been waiting for it for 2 seasons, wanting it and when he walked out the hospital i just felt strange and empty, i couldnt stop thinking about the other officers about to be shot to death, these writers are great at manipluating you

  • What's the theme behind from 2:25 to 3:30 ? I love it and I'd like to know :D

What a beautiful ending ! Made me cry my heart out !!

  • this is the second best ending ever. the first best was this shows sequle ashes to ashes finale. i cryed for 40 minutes stright.

  • Also why didn't they stretch it out to 3 seasons?

  • @Javjean British brevity, you've got to know when to end it. Good examples: Fawlty Towers and Spaced.

  • @Javjean

John Simm was in virtually every scene, which is exhausting, and he was away from his family 6 months at a time. Also, he doesn't like to beat a role to death and I think he felt that he'd taken Sam Tyler as far as he could. Thus begat the less impressive Ashes to Ashes.

  • MIND FUCK!

  • 36 secs in Alex Drake walks past Sam Tyler?

  • ... She was from BARNSLEY!

  • probably the greatest ending to a TV show i have ever seen

couldn't stop watching the series after i bought the box set spent 2 full days glued to my TV it was amazing

  • youtubes pissing me off now

  • Fuck you WMG!

  • Is it just me or is there no sound in this clip? :L

  • I wish i could just get a rope and tye it round WMG's neck until they choke to death!

  • Youtube has been taking bribes.

  • Go and detect me some Garibaldi's while I go and get me Bowie CD!

  • Those greedy corporations have become so crazy about the copyright infringement it's not even funny anymore! IT'S INSANE! What's next? One time licenses for every video you want to watch, for every song you want to listen to? Where has the common sense gone these days?

  • has anyone seen the us version its sucks sooo bad, espeically gene hunt, us cant do anything right they took a brilliant tv series and made it shit, i love this one though. this should make a new sereis just him doing stuff in 1973 but then it might ruin how briliant this ending realy is

  • I actually really enjoyed the US version. But nothing tops the UK version.

  • WMG fucking tossers.

  • i 3rd that utube suk

  • lol I wish I had a few grand to wave under their noses lol.

  • Fuck you youtube and your Notice!

  • The soundtrack here was "Over the Rainbow" by an Hawaien singer called Israel Kamakawiwo'ole...A wonderful version of the classic original soundtrack from "The Wizard of Oz". Here is the best version i ever heard , you can download it from official plateform !

  • Richard..watch please. This was a series which the UK voted to have the greatest ending of all time in television history. About a guy who wakes up from a dream which he meets his soulmate in only to finally realize real life is boring so he takes drastic measures to once again return to his dream. He realizes while alive he lives like a zombie but in his dreams he feels alive. This is the greatest ending in television series upon its finale scene of any I have ever seen.

  • I just spent the past week watching the entire Life on Mars series and just finished a half hour ago and I discovered John Simm is even greater then I thought. Then I did some reading and I found out the UK actually recently voted the ending of this series the greatest in television history.. I relate well to this because I too like to live within my dreams. I dont know what else to say..Im speechless ...I also cried at the ending...its just that powerful.

  • best show in the whole world and very sad at the end i cried as well

  • I agree it is one of the greatest programs ever. I am so hooked on this watching it over and over. Whoever wrote this plot actually wrote the story of my life. I just know when he took that jump that he went back to 1973 and was reunited with Annie his soulmate. I dont think he died. I think if you really think about it the entire present day sequence might have been the dream. In my world I think reality is perception and real life isnt real for me. The choice of music is amazing. Brilliant.

  • OMG! I love Life on Mars!

It is absolutely my favourite show.

And, yeah, I cried as well.

I LOVE the ending, but when I found out there's not gonna be any more episodes, I almost cried again. John Simm is AWESOME!

    Life on Mars 4eva

  • Omg I Cryed Again!

  • I love life on mars is my fave programe i still watch it now! Just a shame it ended, and yes i did cry at the finale lol

    John Simm <3

  • Oh, I know! I always cry at the finale as well. Lawlz. :( I can never get enough of this show! It's just... brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I'm still at the edge of my seat every episode.

I wish it never ended. Oh man!

    JOHNSIMM<3333!

  • @04triggk

same its just so good and what a shame it was when it ended....

it just makes you think and question is life real or not

  • Life on Mars... What can i say, incredible is probably the best suited word for it... Ashes to Ashes wasnt half as good but was still ok. Series 2 next week i think.

Anyone know who the artist is who is covering somewhere over the rainbow in this scene?

  • Oh, I know. It was a FANTASTIC show. I just wish it would have lasted longer! I can never get me enough of that Sam Tylerrr.

    :p

And the man singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is Isreal Kamamawiwo'ole. <--- Long name. I totally know. Ahaha.

  • how do you know its season 2 next week!?!?!?!?!

and the artist is israel kamakawiwo'ole

  • simply THE best ending ever with THE best music around..

    thanks for the upload ^__^

  • ahhh brings a tear 2 my eye everytime thanks for uploading

  • Aw, I know. Me too. The music fits the scene so perfectly, doesn't it?

    You're welcome.

    :)

  • @missmandixoxo

    excellant video cheers for posting...

  • I may virtually kiss you for uploading this !Mwah!

  • And I may virtually kiss Sam Tyler for being so FREAKING amazing!!! Ahaha.

    :)

  • Thanks, missmandixoxo, you did a great job.I love it!

  • You're very welcome, nowheregirl22! :)

I'm glad you loved it. Quite a series, this was.

  • I've just watched the first seven episodes of the American version. It seems a proper finale to this particular series. Reminds me of Vanilla Sky.

  • Mmm, I'm actually not following the American season. I just can't picture Sam Tyler being someone other than John Simm! Haha.

Vanilla Sky, hmm? I've never heard of it. I should look into it. Thank you!

  • I would love to watch the British version, and if I can find it to download I will.

Vanilla Sky is a remake of a Spanish production called 'Abre los Ojos' (same director of The Others, with Nicole Kidman), great movie. If you don't know the story, try the Spanish movie: Amenábar is a fantastic storyteller.
