Ed, can I have a word in your ear, supposing we Build thousands of Windmills, Ok, let's assume they can supply our energy needs, or even significant proportions of it.
Now supposing every now and again we have lulls in the weather, in order to be able to accomodate those periods, we need a conventional system capable of operating at full capacity to supply the entire UK.
In other words, we need backup system capable of supplying all our needs anyway.
Man made climate change is not real, the Earth has naturally gone through climate changes throughout history and evidence suggests that CO2 concentration increases follow temperature increases, not the other way round. Maybe we should point to the sun as the cause of climate change.
One medium sized nuclear power station would produce the same amount of electricity as 2000 giant wind turbines (but not subject to unpredictable weather!). How many lives would be affected by one power station versus 2000 turbines? The government needs to educate the public on relative safety records and commit to nuclear R&D / building without further delay. We all have to reduce our carbon footprints too. p.s. imagine that grinding turbine noise 24/7!
Sir. Air Recycling Technology if used in the manufacture of Vacuum Cleaners could actually save an amount of energy equal to that generated by 800 Medium sized wind generators.
Annually in the UK.
That is 1.5 TWh of electricity. Worth £225,000,000 and 650,000 Tonnes of CO2, Emissions. And a saving of more than 25 Twh of electricity annually is possible in the EU. Equal to £3.25 billion pounds and 13.5 million tonnes of CO2.Emissions Annually.
Ed Miliband is desperate to please the corporate lobby, so will never try anything that doesn't rely on technology, offsetting, trading and all those other things that feed the consumer culture.
Also, bear in mind that in order to reverse the worst of climate change we need to get below 350ppm, and you realise that cuts of 95% or more by 2030 are needed by industrial countries. Which means a different paradigm entirely: no less than the removal of industrial civilization.
Truth is we live in tecnological society. The removal of indusrial civilization as you put it is completely unworkable. How could you sell that to the population? We don't live in the stone age and there is no way back to an agarian past.

What should be compared to other countries with a similar climate is the carbon per person.
The UK is a shame, not a great country.

You'll be amazed how much I don't care about anything the guy says in this video.

'Today I've anounced a total trashing of what was a great country'.
Great work Ed...keep it up.

Hmm, two out of the three windmills static, the other turning enough to power a flickering 40w light bulb.
Can anyone else spot the problem with wind power?
ArtJWest 2 years ago
One turbine annually produces enough electricity to keep 1000 households going for a year. So, no I can't see the problem with wind power!

When are the government going to announce exactly what rate the FIT is going to be set at?
