100% correct. A tour had been planned and then Perry was in a car wreck. But he was still happy to tell them he'd be on the mend for just a short while and would be ready to go right after that.

After listening to both steve and arnel sing open arms and don't stop believing I can say that Steve Perry has a better range and a stronger voice for the arrangement. He also simply sounds better. However, arnel has a very good voice as well. As for NoSteveNoJourney goes, this person either is to bias because of how much they like Perry to see that Arnel is also very good, or they simply have no knowledge of what defines a good singer. You could easily say that Journey without Greg Rollie is not Journey. His was the original, and some say best voice of Journey. When Perry came along Journey was already evolving into something else. Why should they stop?
Besides, no one can deny Pineda's story is particularly inspiring.
I saw Journey when they supported ELO in a huge stadium tour. I believe it was Perry's first tour with them. There was definite chemistry and magic. I would say that that was Journey's best incarnation.
However, Rollie soon left and Perry's voice became the dominant voice. Now, Perry is credited with songwriting on many of their hits. It will remain to be seen if Pineda has songwriting talent, which to me always puts someone in a higher category. However, even if he has talent in that regard, it remains to be seen whether the others will allow him to contribute to songwriting duties.
I hope so. I think that's the only way for Pineda to really leave his mark.

There is no doubt that there is no one compared to Steve Perry. It's too bad that the band had to go their "separate ways." But why should the fans be deprived of enjoying Journey's awesome music. You could easily say that Journey without Greg Rollie is not Journey. His was the original, and some say best voice of Journey. When Perry came along Journey was already evolving into something else. Why should they stop?
Besides, no one can deny Pineda's story is particularly inspiring.
I saw Journey when they supported ELO in a huge stadium tour. I believe it was Perry's first tour with them. There was definite chemistry and magic. I would say that that was Journey's best incarnation.

However, Rollie soon left and Perry's voice became the dominant voice. Now, Perry is credited with songwriting on many of their hits. It will remain to be seen if Pineda has songwriting talent, which to me always puts someone in a higher category. However, even if he has talent in that regard, it remains to be seen whether the others will allow him to contribute to songwriting duties.
I hope so. I think that's the only way for Pineda to really leave his mark.

There is no doubt that there is no one compared to Steve Perry. It's too bad that the band had to go their "separate ways." But why should the fans be deprived of enjoying Journey's awesome music. Arnel rocks the hell out of these songs and gives the people what they want. I don't care if he's Asian, black, white, whatever. His voice is amazing and the misic is still as fresh as when it first came out, especially the keyboard. If you don't like it, then just close your eyes and enjoy the music!
