I know how you feel, last year the cat that accompanied me through all my school years died, while I wasn't even there for him. It broke my heart and I cried every time I stumbled upon an old picture of him. But then, one time when I opened a photo of him by accident all I saw was my little beloved Tiggi. My companion of many years, and all I could think about was all the fun we had together. And that he always made me smile, so I learned to smile again for him.
I still miss him :(
