  • hi angelo, which sample record is this?

  • Freestyle: Dead Prez-Hip-Hop

  • Man you are AWESOME!!! You break down this complex art form into easy to understand (and do) tutorials. Dude, I bow to you! Keep em coming! I am a brand new DJ just starting out with no experience whatsoever. You have turned me into a pretty decent DJ already with just a few of your tutorials. I can't wait to take it to the next level. Thank You DJ ANGELO!!!!

  • What was the instrumental you were using during that freestyle, because I loved it.

  • Is it necessary to lower the level of the ecualizacion of the bass to do scratch?

  • the best tutorials ive never seen!! im left handed too and your explains are awesome!

    Thank you Angelo!!

    greetings from spain!

  • hi, great vid...im using a djm 600 and it has 3 settings for the fader.. i have it on the setting you would use for transforming but it dont cut off like the phono-line switch which i use..whats the best mixer with the best cut off fader setting in your opinion??? thanx

  • Hey Just wanted to know are you willing to put all the tutorials on a single video file and email it to me I got you on a donation

  • is transforming just a bunch of stabs im Lost someone help plz?

  • Angelo, where can I get those sounds you use to scratch? I want to start doing your tutorials and practicing. Please and thank you.

  • you are an artist!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DJAngeloUK mate i love how at the end you made the scratching sound JUST like the lyrics of "hip hop" nice nice

  • best tutorial ever i saw for that!

  • Did you know? That LInkin Park DJ Joe Hahn (aka Mr. Hahn) uses this exact technique and sample to do the scratch for the song Papercut.

Just thought I would let you know.

  • What's the track at 08:40?

  • ur a great teacher people who dislike r twats keep it up .... :)

  • i have been practicing off of your tutorials and they have helped me quite a bit.. I wanted to ask, which sounds can we use to scratch with the transformer? I am a DJ using serato so i dont have a bunch of records with those sounds... can you lead me in some sort of direction here? and i am also using Ortofon Pro S needles, should i switch to Shure M447's?

  • Great Tutorial!

  • dude...the scratching over Dead Prez was sick lol, i like scratching to that beat too

  • 8:58-9:01 can someone write me pattern to this ??? I mean xfader move when drop O_O

  • @DJangeloUK Are you coordinated with both hands when you scratch?

  • Wat accessories u use. The mixer and sound effects.plz help.:)

  • does it matter if your right or left handed? I'm right handed and on record control (baby scratches ) i find it easier to use my right, but if i switch the deck placement, i control the cross fader better(with my right hand) at the cost of record control with my left, does it matter or is it all practice? P.S. your tutorials are AWSOME!

  • your are a very good tutor thank you so much...talented too..

  • I love your tutorials man i use the fader with my left hand and cut best with my right. Not alot of vids out there that showcase this way. thanks!

  • Hey Angelo,

Your tutorials are the dogs man! Just wanted to ask how long it took you to get decent speed in your left hand for transforming etc? I too am right handed, but had to switch to using my left hand on the vinyl as I was just not getting anywhere with my weaker (left hand) on the fader. This means I'm now having to re-learn all the record control on my left hand, but i'm finding that much easier than trying to gain speed on the fader with my left hand.

  • Hi angelo! a question...

what kind of needle do you use and how many grams do you put on your needle to have a good stability?

    thanks

    congratulations from Italy

  • @gattogabriele123 Shure M44-7. 3 grams of weight should do the trick, you must ensure that you balance the tone arm correctly at 0 grams first, to do this, keep adjusting the weight until the tone arm floats above the record, the adjust the weight ring (not the weight itself) to 0. You can then turn the weight to 3.

  • Whoa that freestyle was sick dude, you got MAD SKILLZ!

  • What was the name of the song you played last? The really cool sounding one that kinda sounded like dubstep. Except with your beasty turntabling.

  • Man i wish i had a hold of these tutorials long ago. Thanx for the help. You are truly a great dude.

  • know somebody the beat at 8:50?

  • Is this technique like a "reverse stab"?

  • this tutorial is a big help, thank you

  • my forearm is killing me after this!! anybody have tips to build up strength??

  • Love the Super Seal record! Have the same 1

  • ahh man

your amazing you helping so much

im still new to scratching hardly done it

sorry if i sound super noob but that record u use

    is it made for scratching

and what is a record like that called does it have a name or just or what

thanks man keep up the great work and post MORE AND MORE !!!! :)

  • @dustysole

    Title: Super Seal (Q'Bert)

yes, I gues its some kind of a battle vinyl ,there' s lot more out there

  • como sempre sou seu fã

  • Hey i Was Wondering What Song You Were Playing for the scratching over a beat part of the video, the techno sounding one

  • Another brilliant tutorial! I liked the Dead Prez at the end too!

  • Your really helpful bro thanks alot. My slipmats are set up so nice now lol

  • Thanks for this help, going to watch the other tutorials!!

  • For the people having problems with the transformer scratch.

Orginally, I found it easier to do the transformer scratch just by, kind of forgetting about the right hand at first and letting the sound play, just focussing on the cutting with the left hand...

Then eventually, (slowly) bringing in the right hand to further cut the scratch. Hope this helps...

  • Hello Angelo, you helped me so much! Im 12 years old and im scratching too! I have video on youtube!

  • Hey,that was awsome but I just want to know how much did you pay for that turntable and tha mixer.thx

  • Hi Angelo, just wanted to say how good your Scatch tutorials are. You really are a good teacher. I've been mixing house, hardcore, etc for years but never got my head around scratching. Your lessons have been excellent! You really should put these on DVD, etc and start charging. I took a similar internet course on playing the piano and your teaching techniques are as good as those I learnt in the piano. Thank you. Love Q-Bert and Drumming and DJ kentaro 2002 DMC! Keep rocking bro! Peace!

  • DJAngelo your tutorials are the best I've found on youtube so far... so easy to understand! Really well explained and the camera angle helps a lot too. Thanks heaps... really appreciate it!!

Gonna go practice my transformer now!

  • dope tutorial

  • First, thank you Dj Angelo, your videos are very helpful!!

And second, I'm french, and I did'nt understand what type of record i need to use to have this type of sound when I transform...

  • that sh*t is so eye opening damn dude. inspiring as f*ck

  • Hey man, just sending out my appreciation! I've watched all your tutorials so far and I'm still going! Lot's of respect to your style and also telling people to stay true to their style of playing.

P.S. Would you mind mixing up some electro house tunes? Just for fun :)

    Thanks again Angelo,

    Jamie

  • ups on that freestyle at the end!

  • Super seal FTW

  • where do you find vinyl with just mobb deep instrumentals like that? oh ya and when transforming you use that specific sound. does transforming use all different sounds and samples other than that one?

  • i LOOOOOOVE transforming, prolly my favorite scratch to do, experiment dj's out there the transformer scratches have huge grey area's you can play with and do what feels and sounds good to you, just like angelo said i need to post some clips now dammit lol

  • sick beat,what is it!

  • what is massive attack ?

  • the end one with the crackling beginning is dead prez - hip hop

  • hey i just picked up spinnin records like 2 months ago i primarily just make beats but id like to get real good at dj'ing one of the things ive been dyin to figure out is in the dj quick song 8ball at the end he's scratching the second to last track (ahh yeah) on superseal 1 hella crazy i think its a trasformer style but idk if you could make a vid that'd be dope

  • how does that sounds call? 01:14

  • a track ages ago had a line that was "aaahhh its so freshhh" in a weird alien way. it then became the typical scratch sound and can be found (as stated at he beginning) in pretty much every scratch record.

  • dj angelo use that type of vinyl where you scratch and where can I get it .......... order online or something so I'm from mexico and I do not get many things here

  • I started on Records ,but I use Serato and hands down (meaning) if you really want to be a good scratch DJ then learn how to use your scratch moves on REAL RECORDS NOT TIME CODED RECORDS LIKE SERATO EXT... that have a function for anti-skip.

learn how to scratch on a warped record or any record, if so you will be amongst the best !! I guaranteed you.

1.) you will learn how to have better control on the record and develop a cleaner style. once you master it then the rest is Cake!!! (SERATO)

  • yes, coded vinyls are shit! this is more better! quality is better!

  • good thing i have USB turntables dont have to worry about cd's or records scratching or people bumpin my table or neddles lol

  • DAMN I KNDA wanna move to the uk dj central

  • massive attack i like xD

  • big up man! thanks 4 that

  • Dj Angelo my sound of the scratch dont have the sound of urs ,mine is dull and and can barely hear it transforming. Can u help me with these problem

  • hey im kinda new to djing does scratching hurt my records or my stylus?

  • yes it does! you it wears out your needle much quicker than normal. And yes it does hurt your records, eventually the point which as been scratched alot will sound distorted and fuzzy.

    - i recomend buying "skipless" battle records (check out dj qbert's seal volumes) and buy a decent stylus, the more high end ones don't need to be replaced as often.

  • hey, nice tutorial!

what is the name of the vinyl?

    thx

    #avid

  • Superseal from ThudRumble.

  • @dada575: the beat is: Dead prez - hip hop

    Paw Paw

  • DJAngeloUK, whats tha name of that beat ur kuttin to>

  • im looking to start doing this but i am on a VERY limited budget and was curious if these are worth the money. im looking at one Stanton T.62 Direct Drive Analog Turntable and a Numark DM950 8" 2 Channel Battle DJ Mixer.

  • T. 62 are okay for beginners, I have a pair! They are direct drive, which means they're better than cheap-o belt-driven turntables, but the torque is no where near as good as other turntables like numark ttx, or tech 12s... but they're great for the price!! To compensate for the relatively low-torque, get some nice slip mats (butter rugs). GET NEW NEEDLES! Shure M44-7! The one's that come with are GARBAGE. Budget mixer ($100-200) Vestax PMC-05 Pro II or American Audio QD5.. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • very good tutorial(s) and good description - move on brother

  • What up Angelo! I added a response tutorial for the hamster / reverse scratchers. keep up the good work

  • of course not. if it was then the "crossfade spikes" they apply would be used to articulate the taps.

  • thanks for the friend invite!!! :D

  • Do you know a website where i can DL some mp3's with beats and breaks...(long mix)?

I this way i will be stimulated by new music while practising new scratch varieties.

    After 7 lessons still motivated...thanks...

  • This is nothing like DJ Hero!

  • hey man. really getting into the tutorials now and finally my scratching is starting to sound reasonable! just wondering, is there any particular style of hip hop which is best to scratch to? ive been experimenting with old school stuff like rakim and gangstarr but iv been trying out wu tang and del the funky homosapien with results that are not as good. is this just my technique or the style???

  • As a scratch DJ, you are a musician and should "compliment" the music you scratch along to. It's good to practice using different beats as this will teach you how to adapt your style. Of course, some types of music may be better suited to the sound of scratching than others, but it's always the DJ's job to select the music...

  • i Cant Agree more with you- Being a Fidget Jacking House DJ myself, ur style of music doesnt determine your Physical ability to scratch Good- its your creativity and your Rythym you Control on the music wether it be stabs, Drops, Flares or Crabs- its just a simple matter of Co Ordinating between the music, and the scratch tools your Desire- there are some INSANE Hardstyle Turntabalists out there- as well as some SICK SICK house Turntabalists- my Sa hero- Roger D Lux- Tech house DJ- insane !!!!

  • thanks 4 the feedback.

  • @DJAngeloUK great videos - what is the name of the beat in the last part of the video?

  • @RubiaKr3w Hip hop by Deadprez.

  • @hilla187 you could always expand past just the hip hop genre

  • I noticed that some people do it with the right hand on the record and the left one n the crossfader, but most of them do it with the left hand on the record and right hand on the crossfader, is that because some people are left-handed and others are right-handed or either way is ok? isnt it easier for right-handed people doing the crab movement with the left hand fingers?

  • It's personal preference really. I'm right handed and prefer to control the record with my right hand but a lot of turntablists I know prefer to control the crossfader with their right hand. Either way, its a big learning curve to achieve coordination between both of your hands. My advice is to do whatever comes naturally...

  • thank you very much

  • 6 un grande! sto inpara pure io a facce ma nn vengono tutti bene come i tuoi degli scrach.....passa a sentire le basi: francescoo94

  • Dj Angelo, you are da man, Ive been looking for this type of vids for the longest time, no one teaches like you do man. Make them DVDs like that other guy said, ill buy some for sure. One things though, im having trouble finding some scratch sounds how do I get them, I have serato and dont feel like buying vinyl, I need to down load it from somewhere. Thanks

  • nice job!

  • if on one table you have ya beat and on the other one the vinyl your gonna mix, how much louder should the one your gionna mix? like a little bit or around the same

  • nice video man... thanks for it. only problem is... IM NOT LEFTY lol but i'll figure it out... good looks

  • Think he said he is right handed on an earlier video. Should give your dominant hand a shot on record it is interesting if haven't tried before

  • Talk Sound, where is it going? Vinyl or Cd Audio

Thanks. ( Why Kit So Much Money?)

  • thank you so much for doing the different patterns and the diff. ways they can be performed. i have been looking for videos that show more patterns or rhythms . cuz i have learned the scratches but am stuck repeating the same patterns. please do more vids showing patterns . thank u

  • Cheers for the videos Angelo, really is a great help

  • I love your Vids, There are so very Helpful..... Thank you So MUCH.......

  • man ur the best ....but i need to know which is better the vinyl turntable or the cdj's like the cdj-400....and how can i put any track into the vinyl

  • Vinyl By Far, But Thos CDJ 800 MKII or 1000..Both Pioneer Are Nice.

  • man i swear ur the best i always wach ur videos...................but i need some informations from u first how can i put any track i want in the vinyl

  • DOPEEE VIDEO my friend. Ive been learning some very helpful tips from your videos, keep it up.

  • very nice man. I've seen every tutorial video on youtube and this one stands out. Excellent explanation of the transformer when moving the record. If you wanted to take it a step further you could explain the hamster style becuase most of these kids trip when its reversed. GOOD STUFF!

  • Angelo.... Fantastic Tutorials. Have you got any advice for building speed in your mixer hand? I'm right handed and find it difficult to get speed on the fader with my left hand for transforming etc, I have no problems using my right hand on the cross fader, but I have better record control with my right hand and would like to get my left hand up to speed on the fader. I can scratch on both sides, but find faster techniques easier with my right hand on the cross fader.

  • Being right-handed, I have exactly the same problems. My left hand is certainly not as fast on the crossfader as I'd like it be but I've found the best way to build speed is do the technique over and over again, starting at a comfortable speed and gradually increasing it so that is always challenges you. Your wrists and hands may ache to start with but any muscle will become stronger if it is pushed. And with strength, comes speed. Like any exercise, don't forget to allow time to rest.

  • Hey Angelo i'm actually thinking about buying to shure white label stylus. And by the description it brings almost the same ideal performance as the ortofon. what do you suggest?????

  • I've used them before and have no complaints

  • whats the name of the beat when u did the freestyle scratch in the end ???

  • great man, keep on!

  • You Rock You Rock !!You Rock You Rock !!You Rock You Rock !!You Rock You Rock !!

  • really nice tutorials... i like to think i can scratch a bit but its always good to practice but these are the clearest guides i have come across.... where were your vids 6 years ago lol...

seriously nice work though, mad props Angelo

  • what is the name of the beat that you used to freestyle over

  • Dead Prez - Hip Hop

  • Angelo, I'm having some problems with my turns and i do believe that this happens to all of us turntablelists. I have to clean my needles almost every 5 minutes, it's exhausting. I have a big bash this saturday and i can't imagine pausing a playing song to clean up my needles, any advices?????

  • It sounds to me that your records need to be cleaned. Over time, dust and dirt gets trapped in the grooves and when you play these records, the dirt builds up on your needles. This is unfortunately a characteristic of playing vinyl so you should try and keep your records clean by using a suitable fluid and cloth. Briansredd has done a video on how to clean vinyl so search for this. Otherwise, there are many vinyl record cleaning products on the market.

  • Thx alot Angelo. By the way i use a virtualdj combination with ttx numarks (not the same felling as an LP but it does its shares). I'll make sure to response it to yours so that i could get some feedback from you.

  • very nice tutorial.probably the best scratch tutorial on youtube

  • great video again! Looking forward to a video on the flare (which I'm hoping is coming next!)

  • cool! the visual fx are a nice touch

  • very good and easy-understanding tutorials always ! keep it up~! cheers!

  • Legend!

I've just started playing on my decks again (after years of Hard Dance) and thought I'd give scratching a go. Your tutorials are clear, concise and the pacing of each one is like a logical progression from the last. Awesome mate. To big thumbs up and keep'em coming

    Cheers!

  • that was Star Screamin!!

  • 5***** ahh i bin w8n long 4 your nxt vid this iz sick still. im using cdj 1000s so this scratch iz kinda hard transforming has always bin a hard 1 4 me wen u coverin chirps bro??

  • Another great video man. I really appreciate you making these so comprehensive. Cheers

  • I recommend learning all scratches starting with the cross fader open. Otherwise you will make excessive clicks in combos later on.

  • Great vid! Bring on the crab tutorial, i need help :)

  • Nice tutorial, clean and precise. I'm actually starting to get the hang of transforming, still loads of practice to be done though haha

  • rockin... tut...

i was confused by other ppls vids.. you totally made it clear... I am heded home to practice right now!

    keep it up!

  • Thanks for posting this! Gave me some more creative ideas to incorporate into my work. Look forward to the next one.

  • Crazy scratching at the end. My transforms sound like crap compared to yours haha, keep them coming! One.

  • Hey good tutorial as always. Long time Dj, No time Scratch Dj.. lol. I actually started Djing like most because of the coolness of scratching. I never got a chance to pursue it as much as I really wanted to, because it wasn't prudent in making money in my line of Djing. I really wanted to learn how to transition hip hop songs with scratching. If you have any tutorials of that I would love to see them. Thanks Ck the Dj

  • seriously dude... make a dvd a sell that crack. I'd order one!!!

  • Thanks angelo

  • welcome bak :) great clear tutorial tks

  • good tutorial again!

thx for ur work with the fitting visualizations of the pattern moves.

with this video it makes more sense to me scratching with the mixer (than with the last tutorial nr 6)

    thx again cheers uspec

  • excellent tutorial angelo

  • GREAT TUT M8

  • Very good tutorial just like always!!! Nice work man!

  • Excellent!! More please, your tutorials are wicked!

  • awesome tutorial bro!

  • Sweet, I've been waitin for this one. Great Tutorial! Cheers Mate.

  • wouldn't that be alot easier with transform switches?

    very professional edited tutorials btw

the ending was pretty ill also

  • Transforming can be done with transformer switches, but the crossfader is much more versatile for scratching, particularly for more advanced techniques like the Crab, which can't be performed on transformer switches.

  • thanx Bro, Ur tutorials really Rock, very very help full .. :)

  • so when is the DVD coming out ??
