Ritchie Blackmore is the only guitar player I know who gets better and better. He plays with his heart and he sais things with his music nobody can say with words. Thats so beautiful and I think that is something he learned after Deep Purple and Rainbow.
Thank, Darkhorse.., for the plug for that DVD, I'll have to check it out. I've got all of Rainbow's music releases, but not the DVD's. I do have one of the live videos from the 80's.
I didn't say BTW, that Ritchie didn't know how to play fingerstyle back then, cuase he learned as a kid already, I just meant he's adapted it to Renaissance specifically as opposed to just your "ordinary" Classical which was what he 1st learned fingerpicking with according to his own words.
BTW, since not all Renaissance pieces were played this way, being that many were played with a pick (plectrum is the word for it from that era), Ritchie's continued playing many pieces with one. Generally, the rule of thumb
is that when playing with backup musicians as with his band, a pick is used, but when self accompanying, then it's not. Of course there are exceptions.
Like I've said before Ritchie's THE most versatile guitar god out there. Notice he plays this piece fingerstyle without missing a note, not something that should be easy for someone who usually has played with a pick, since he was "corrupted" as he's put it by Rock n' Roll. Nonetheless, Ritchie's not only
built another repertoire since switching to Renaissance, but has developed his fingerstyle technique to adapt as well.
Actually his fingerstyle technique was developed long ago. On the the DVD Rainbow Live in Munich in 1977 there are several spots where he improvs something melodic on a clean electric, and he usually fingerpicked.
bearmare u are a freakin moron, when u grow up you will understand it.

Well, I show up with my Glock 9 and watch those suits of armour get pierced. YEAH! Nothing sexier than a warm gun. And look at all those brave knights on the ground bleeding out. HAHA!
Why is it that people like you can't accept that after 40 yrs playing rock music, Ritchie wants to move on and do something different..I don't doubt that if he WAS stil playing rock, you'd say, what's he doing playing that stuff at 62?
Thanks for uploading this, it's so difficult to hear this stuff in the radio.
I love this band... I pretty much doat on medieval and renaissance music, and it's hard to find. It's great that Mr. Blackmore has graced this type of music with his ability at the guitar. His playing makes the songs better.
AT Birmingham he was awesome , Blistering Fender Strat' on Ariel and breathtaking long acoustic solo on Fires At Midnght . He did 2 hours + and the atmosphere all night was electric . Yes Ritchie could take the easy way out.I personally respect his integrity because he started again with small venues with new music and a new audience .Ritchie's music and guitar playing is still the best you just have to except his choice to go in a new musical direction .
Yeah , it would have been much easier and more profitable to plunder the back catelogue like 'Purple do now but thats not what Ritchie is all about , he likes a challenge , has a low bordom threshold , and refuses top live on past glories in my opinion .
do you ever think blackmore is just taking the piss? Oh I have a joke for you: What do you call a room full of dissappointed Deep Purple & Rainbow fans.......A Blackmore's Night gig of course!
Be dissappointed if you wish. I am a fan of medieval music, and I love this guy for finding all these songs, making them even catchier, and playing them with his astounding ability. I am also disappointed that I'll never go to a Janis Joplin concert, but I've learnt to live with it. I wouldn't take it against an artist that he's doing something different.
Why is it that people like you can't accept that after 40 yrs playing rock music, Ritchie wants to move on and do something..I don't that if he WAS stil playing rock, you'd say, what's he doing playing that stuff at 62?
I think it is Candy. Look.. Same general size and shape... long blonde hair. You can see her face at 2:01 and I think its the same dress underneath that she was wearing the rest of the show. At the end of his playing he points to her.
Well he would point to someone who's been " dancing " to his tune..anyway I have it on good authority that Candy was taking a pee while this tune was being played.
ritchie your an absolute disrace.thankyou for doing a miserly 1 hour 10 min show in reading tonight, hardly bothering to play and no encore.i'm not sure i can stomach anymore of your childish antics getting upset cause your dinner was not right was the popular rumour.pathetic.your the best guitarist in my view ever but you are totally disrespectful and rude to your fans.
He's so much more of a guitarist now.
