  • The great thing about our heath care in Canada, is that it drives the prices of private health care down, creates mean competition for them, so that you can get really great private health care in Canada at a fantastic price.

  • Thank gov I'm in Canada

  • yes they will make an "obscene amount of money" but its not like its going to be worth anything

  • no, i dont want to turn myself into a cartoon, god dam ads.

  • And thank GOD i live in the UK.

  • Where freedom of speech is diminishing and monitoring under the name of protection is rising. Also, Islaamic fascists who don't even live in this country are trying to take over.

  • Obama is a fucking phony......

  • Hey, catering to drug companies and health insurers is Obama's "jobs" program.

  • Third party you fucks!

  • Good points MissMoxie

  • I still say, the problem with health care is:

    1) Pharmaceuticals

    2) Insurers

    3) The Public itself

    4) Doctors

    In that order.

  • how about we go back to 5 year patents as the first step of reform?

  • I wonder if that's why my nanny's pain meds are so high. She's had insurance for 25 years, never been sick, but we just found out 2 weeks ago that she has pancreatic cancer. The insurance is only paying for half of the medicine because it's "too expensive" for them and it's like a $600+ medicine :(

  • And she's been paying for insurance for 25 years? Tragic. I hope she does alright!

  • yeah, the companies only seem to like providing insurance when they don't have to...

  • @BobChaos23 stop sucking on bush's cock

  • Did Cenk's voice crack when he said 8 Billion...?

  • Question, how much does it cost for you guys to get a prescription filled? For me it's $3 (so about $2 USD)

  • It's clear by now that Obama does not give a crap about real reform. Too many facts now to argue that his nonexistant fight for a public option is going to mean real financial pain for you and I. Don't forget, we will all be required by law to pay thousands every year for health insurance. Without a real public option we're completely screwed.

  • Really Asymmatrix? Keep thinking that the President actually runs this country. Keep blaming Obama, instead of the Finance Committee. Keep focusing on the executive branch - when it's the legislative branch that makes the laws. After all, it's much easier to blast the President than it is to bomb your Senators' and Representative's offices with letters.

  • @47f0 If Obama wanted the public option, he could absolutely make it happen, especially considering the size of the Dem majority. How do you think these bonehead Senators make decisions? It's a power game, scratch the President's back and rest assured he'll scratch yours.

  • Asymmatrix

Would you rather see Obama play by the rules, or do a GWB and make up his own laws without the House & Senate?

  • @gmcmudder1 What rules? In Washington? Lol.

  • Asymmatrix, Its elementary

    Most everyone remembers, Fraggle rock

    "I'm just a Bill"

  • The government has no intersest in negotiating lower prices, they have a big interest in taxing whoever they can to provide free pharmecuticals to their constituencies. The drug companies, and health insurance companies for that matter, only crime is making what was once scarce and expensive, or non-existent, plentiful and cheap.

  • is it 80 or 8 billion. Cenk keeps switching back and forth.

  • 80 billion over 10 years = 8 billion a year. Listen.

  • he said 80 billion in the corse of 10 years 8 billion a year

  • Another thing that they're raising rates for is so that if they ever need a bargaining tool, they can "lower" prices (even though the new prices are still significantly higher than they were before this arbitrary raise in the first place). As Cenk would say... "ARE WE NOT MERCIFUL?"

  • You know, when I initially heard about this I was hopping mad. I was like "COME ON! Obama should have known. These guys don't give a fuck!"

.. but then when I thought about it... Obama's pretty smart about this. In fact cunningly so. See bear with me here:

The way I see it, Obama didn't give a shit about the $80b. He knew what the Drug companies were going to do but he's main agenda was to try and stop the pharmaceutical companies from adding to the well of $ funding against the Public Option

  • ... So, Obama's been working on getting the time period for generics entering the market cut down to about 6 or so yrs instead of what it is now.

That way, down the line, it doesn't matter how much drug companies charge for their products. They could charge to hell but those under a gov. HC plan will have access to way cheaper generic drugs.

Those on the gov HC plan that for some reason can only take the brand name drugs are relatively small in # but generally the savings would be HUGE!..

  • (3rd pt)

If the cost of the brand name drug got too much then the gov could tell these relatively small # of patients that they can't supply the drug any longer and perhaps they could find private insurance for that particular need.

Ofcourse, it'd be expensive and even more people will end up saying "Fuck it, it's cheaper with the gov. I'll suck it up"

Eventually, with more and more people wising up and moving to a gov HC plan, costs will come down to compete. It'll take some time but...

  • (4th pt) ... but price of HC will come under control.

So sure, let the drug companies hike the shit up and make their money but in the long run them not helping fund the anti-HC reform campaign will help gov HC option be passed and be mended accordingly with the passage of time and they will come to an end result of lower drug pricing at the end of the day

My kids, in their youth, and myself (if I live another 10+ yrs) will see the benefits later on. Obama's being smart on this one. I C it now

  • Is it just me or are the TYT vids so much quieter than the rest of the YouTube vids. I always have to crank up the volume.

  • Agree!

  • im sad to say it but if you live in america you are fucked

  • thank god i live in canada xd

  • I do, and I've bought stock in KY lubricants (hehe) - but you are right. I want to know WHOM is in control?

  • Nose in the tent Turks, that's all we need.

  • Finally a clear cut example of how corporations don't pay... WE DO!

They don't pay taxes... they pass that on to us via higher prices

They don't pay charity... they are generous enough to let us pick up the tab.

  • I'm so glad I don't live in america. Every other 'civilized' country has full government health (equivalent to your medicare), cheap pharmaceuticals, longer and better quality life expectancy than america, no gun problems, and no nutty religious problems.

  • Sounds like heaven.

  • this is a great example of how private buissnes and the free market makes america a better country, they willingly give money to help people who have been hurt by obama's recession, and yet obama still wants a government health care takeover that will kill millions and cost trillions, the way to get REAL health care reform is to get an insurance mandate and get rid of the public option, and increase the patent time from 12 to 25 years thats how you stop obamas socialism in its tracks

  • The Democrats won the election. The Democrats have all the power. You're a moron for blaming Republicans.

  • All I have to say is, "I knew it, I knew it!" As soon as I heard that Obama made a deal with the drug companies a few months ago... I knew it would happen. It just figures doesn't it. The land of the greedy, and the home of the filthy (needlessly) rich at the expense of everyone else.

  • move over here and get free healthcare

in some aspects Denmark rocks :3

  • So when private industry raises prices of their product they get scorned , but when government raises taxes, they get applauded.

  • I know it seems crazy ... the first thing that comes to mind is that people like the idea (at least in some respect) of how at least taxes are good for the economy etc. ... so somehow they still benefit from their contribution as does society and so on... but private industries are just pocketing their hard earned money... and that hurts!

  • Does "pocketing their hard earned money" also include paying their own employees? Or what about all the licensing fees and government regulatory fees. Or what about funding future products through research and development? Income taxes? Property taxes? Or what about the 1.1 million dollars they gave Obama in campaign contributions? Round and round we go folks!

  • I KNOW! It's a mess. That's the problem. Some people look at it as a black and white issue and then, as information in absorbed, it becomes a LOT more complex. Enjoy the headache people!

  • I wanna find out who these people are, who those fuckers are who fuck us over time and time and time and time again. I want to find them and fucking kill them. Then put their heads on spears infront of the white house and the capital. Fuck them, they don't care about us, why don't we get that? They have all the money in the world, if a hundred million of us die they don't give a shit. They just want more and more money. And it is not for personal usage. It is pure status. FUCK THOSE CUNTS!!!!!!!

  • It totally sucks to live in the USA unless you're one of the ruthless rich elite.

Land of the Free, home of the Brave?

    BS !

  • Drug companies in the US are worse than cocaine cartels in Colombia.

  • humbla humbla timmy.....

  • 12 years is actually fair. Biotech drugs do require a huge amount of R&D

  • Wow, this is a complete joke. This all came full circle and left the American people holding the bag...AGAIN.

Lobbyists need to go. They have to or the American people don't stand a chance of every regaining control of their country.

  • Iceman22742: Agreed. Lobbyists and their ties to governments need to be gone.

Question is: how do you do it?

You'd have to create an alternative drug company with cheaper costs.

If what Cenk is saying is true, it should be possible to have more drugs made at cheaply enough to be cheap for people to buy and still make a profit. That is, if what he's saying is true.

  • Well, I know that in Canada the same drug are made for cheaper, much cheaper. Cheap enough for Americans who live close to the border cross over and fill perscriptions.

It most certainly can be done, but with drug companies making money hand over fist they have no incentive to lower prices and piss off their share holders.

  • @1000Demons

    patents...

Just pull a chavez on them, nationalize their sorry ass and give their executives 48 hours to leave the country.

  • you know what fuck the public option go for single payer.

  • US congress/senate and president and signel payer a disaster.

First a politiclal reform that tie the hands of the lobbyiests. else will you be ripped of

  • S.O.S.D.D!

  • Looks to me like the Obama Administration got pwn'ed on this one.

  • let us not forget the retail mark up of the drugs-500% or more in some cases, y do u think there is a cvs on every corner?

  • thank god for 2012, we ALL deserve to die. I can't wait to kiss our species goodbye, talk about fucking cockroaches.

  • @odom602

It isn't gonna happen. I will die a happy man to see all religions wiped out though, even it means everyone else going.

  • The government is a joke. Get the lobbyists and banks out and you got a real government.

  • Group belief and behavior is very illogical. If it was up to me i would say always try cannabis first, and then skip the establishment blabber and choices. They are trying to be like parents that who are entirely "messed up" and offering no choices. Programming reality by weath and belief is so leadership pshychopathic. Next thing you know they will be siding with big religion and big law.

  • how is american politics THIS corrupt? Damn...glad I live in canada

  • blame canada.

  • Me to,, Man, this is nuts..... Glad to be a Canadian

  • the US government doesnt care about the life expectancy of its own US citizen.

instead, they significantly reduced the life expectancy in afghanistan and iraq. that would easily have been enough money to get a single payer system going.

  • omg...obama is not americas saviour, even during the elections and all the "yes we can" hype surely u could tell he wouldnt deliver on everythin

he's admin kisses almost as much ass as the previous admin

  • There is no such thing as thinking in lockstep with a political or status group. That's called believing and all that is needed for that is being "on board". You might as well be either a slave or an enemy to the rich. They have to keep you giving them your money for bad products. i don't know why we should be so damned scared of dying anyway. "Valley of the shadow of death" i suppose.

  • All status is based on dogma and doctrine or a set of fixed yet frivilous rules of death for dissenters. It's mathematical or logical, with the net effect being that stupid/selfish/ greedy will rule by force of a clot like agreement. Once people belong and believe they become accustomed to their group lies and gradually degenerate toward "winning and trumping with force and stupidity" with the hope of aggrandizment. Those drugs don't have to work, they only have to be costly.

  • You people are so blinded by your hatred for Obama, you ignore the effects of the power these drug and insurance companies have. It is the monopolistic power over life and death. There is only one way to change it. We must get out the old Anti-Trust laws and dust them off. We must break these companies up into smaller more competitive companies.

Watch the Republicans go ape-shit over that.

  • umm...what other failures does he have on his record?

  • He bowed to a Japanese man and his wife.

  • Comment removed

  • Cant tell sarcasm by the structure of the sentence, dumbfuck?

  • ....alright, now that I read it over it does sound sarcastic....

  • The arrogant stupidity coming from the white house was from earlier this decade.

  • It's a shame that the man you voted for, for President,

    [that would be Obama],

wasn't smart enough to know that you don't get something for nothing.

This is simply the latest example of his arrogant stupidity.

It's no wonder that his approval rating have now fallen below 50%, and continue to drop like the value of our dollar.

    Chains you can believe in.

  • It's the republicans who cause the approval ratings for the pres to go down. By lying, and stopping any progress it reflects upon Obama.

  • I can't believe that a provision to prevent this was not added to the agreement.

Who the "F" dropped the ball on this one?

"What can I do, I need the medicine, and they are the only ones who can legally make it".

  • you know, you are on the internet here, you can say FUCK all day long if you want without the right winger being outraged

  • And they say Castro's system doesn't work?

    What and this does?

LMAO say yes and I will call you an idiot. Which you are.

  • Big fish eat small fish and get bigger until they're big enough to eat anything that looks like it could ever become a big fish.

    Capitalism + Time = Monopoly

  • it's almost like these companies DON'T want the economy to get better.

  • Of course they don't...they are only concerned about the short term gains, and right now they're bloody good.

  • Most business is only interested in short term profit.

Capitalist market or not, maybe its just human nature to think short term, but worse, the bigger the business, the more profit they make, the more the people in charge need to make to be satisfied.

So, the state of the economy is irrelevent, they will just try harder to keep profits up, whoever they have to scam to do it.

  • ouch!

  • Why are you so surprised Cenk?

Owners are allowed to do anything they want with their slaves.

  • america need to reign in their corporations, it drags the whole world down since we have to compete with that!

  • to all conservatives:

capitalism only work with no monopolies, that is the very basic.monopoly=no freedom, no competition, no capitalism.

  • America is getting screwed by corrupted rich people.

  • fuuuuuck that. seriously..

  • I really hate this fucking country. Our politicians treat us like we're little retarded fucking children who literally can't understand anything. Oh well I guess. Not shit we can do about it.

  • America

These drug companies are only making drugs to address the symptoms of what ails you. There is no money in a cure, they want you to stay sick so you'll have to buy their pills for the rest of your life.

There's a bonus, if their pill causes many side effects, hence you need to take some more pills.

I cured my hay fever, by constant exposure my body adjusted. didn't need allergy pills, that caused high BP (pill) that caused ED (pill) that caused???? You get the point...

  • So I'm not the only one that can prove adaptation by, well, adapting?

  • Pass the TUMS, this turn my stomach !

  • i don't have insurance and up until this summer, one of my medications for a 1 month supply cost $29.95. now, the same medication, same 30 day supply costs $69.95. WTF?! It's so ridiculously unfair and makes no sense whatsoever.

  • july7nyc

The sad part is Michael Moore (Sico documentry) took a bunch of 911 first responders, who were suffering with lung issues & troubles with their insurance, over to Cuba where a woman who's inhaler med's cost her five dollars American. She was overwhelmed, because in the states it cost her $64.50 each. You know Cuba - that little hated, 3rd world island off the coast of Fla. that welcomed Americans, and treated their issues... for under $20.00 each.

  • gmcmudder: yeah, i know. i saw it recently. i was there on 9/11 @ the WTC. I stayed there until Wed morning bringing the firemen and police who were on top of the wreckage water, eye drops and tylenol. and we just searched. i was working at a hospital @ the time, but the funding was cut for my position and though i helped start the wtc medical screening program, i opted not to transfer full-time to that because of the PTSD. so i moved to new orleans and then got hit with katrina... (sigh)

  • Talk about bad luck. Please don't move to my state.

  • ebertnreoper: Don't worry, I'm back in NYC now and not planning on moving again, but I am probably going to get the swine flu... (My mother already had it and almost died- she was in the hospital on a ventilator and unconscious for 2 weeks! and she has NO underlying conditions and is only in her 50s!) Then again, I have parrots so I'll probably end up with the avian flu! Dammit. :o

  • july7nyc

    I salute you "hero"

I'm sure you were fit to be tied when Christie Whitman from EPA, proclaimed on national TV

that the air quality was not harmful. When from your medical perspective, you witnessed all evidence to the contrary.

  • that is exactly what happened! all the doctors i worked with (in environmental medicine, no less) were fighting with them and it wasn't until hillary clinton got involved that people finally started paying attention. but it was too little, too late.

  • fuck the drug companies, i got my cure all growing in my basement

  • fuck the world

  • in order for drug companies to get a patent on a drug, they need chemicals in them... that's why medical use for cannabis is illegal

  • Wow, seriously who couldn't have seen coming a mile away

  • How do you fix this retarded system with corrupt politicians on both sides?

  • Revolution? You could protest but you need permits which is an infringement on our right to free speech. Also they will just try to shut you down with the police.

So yes Revolution sounds like the best option.

  • Revolution gets you in jail for treason. Sorry =/

  • Well, politicians respond to lobbies. Would it be possible to out-lobby the lobbies? It would take a lot of pooling of money, but if you get it from progressive industries and individuals, is it something that's possible?

  • Well, places like Act Blue already do that. Its effective to a point, but it would be impossible to organize everyone to chip in, mainly because (and it pains me to say) a majority of the American people are totally ignorant to what the problem is. We can't fight their propaganda, but we can form underground movements and small grass roots organizations. It will take a long time and alot of hard work to become formidable, but that's usually how it works.

  • only if it fails ;p

  • What kind of revolution are we talking about here? A Marxist or capitalist revolution?

  • Demand a separation of corporation and state and fight to keep it that way. There's supposed to be a separation of church and state yet (mostly Republican) politicians and their backers keep pushing their religious "values" onto state policy and the people let them.

  • yea, like pro-life, and pro-choice.

there should be one that says pro-mind-your-own-fucking-bussines. I'm not interested in entering a debate, so I'll be brief.

pro-choice isn't about ending lives, it's about a girl having a choice if something happens, like if she gets raped or a condom breaks. that's not her fault, and yet, she's going to be stuck with an unwanted person for at least 9 months, and for some people, having then is not an option, but abortion is.

    I sound like a polititian

  • I totally agree, but what do you think is the best way to do that?

  • dayati - Public attention and support. Media coverage of all kinds. Uncover and publish who is paid by what company and what influence they have. Expose any illicit, hypocritical dealings between corps and political representatives. If the majority demands it, politicians will be forced to enact it.

  • Ok. Obviously the best way to reach the public is through the mainstream media. The Internet is great, but it takes a person's own will to get to, for example, a TYT video. I think this channel does a great job of exposing a lot of shady dealings in politics, but in your opinion, how would you take this message to the general public?

  • dayati - how would you take this message to the general public? - make a commercial, print fliers, produce a play, hold town hall meetings, talk to schools, get on the radio, etc. There are many non profit organizations that have done this successfully, like ex-smokers, and parents of rape/murder victims who made public their ordeal and fought to change existing policies. One voice won't be heard very well, a powerful collective voice will.

  • Already have dayati. It takes time, but it can be done.

  • Cool Lynx. Good luck!

  • 8 Billion a year is pretty small

  • Hell, if you think it's pretty small send it over here! It would fund our public healthcare system for 20 years, mabey more!

  • She forgot scaring little children is my contribution to this planet

  • medicare and medicaid are in bed with the drug companies

  • fuck lady gaga

  • It's best you don't. Things might burn off.

  • % 9, fuck them, am going on the black market next time I need meds.

  • I trust drug dealers more than Pharmacists.

At least Drug dealers acknowledge that their product is horrible for you, and don't advertise.

  • I am not sure if you got it right about patent length. There is no way is was ever 5 years it takes longer than that than that to do the clinical trials and get the drug approved. I guess maybe it could have been 5 years after the drug is approved, but I though a patent was applied for before pre-clinical trials started.

  • and yet there are COMPLETE JACKASSES in this country that will step right up to defend this.

  • Cenk. You are the king of nons equiturs. First, it was widely acknowledged that there was little room for negotiation with the Pharms without rewriting patent law. Most of the negotiations cost cutting is coming from private hospitals and medical equiptment manufacturers.

Also, do you even know that the proposed public option has no provision for negotiating the cost of drugs. It wont even benefit from medicare negotiations. It just has provisions to use generics where available.

  • Feet don't fail me now!!!!!

  • "As well" not "at well". Doah!

  • This is absolutely disgusting. Why isn't this a big story everywhere else at well.

  • Dear Ron Paul,

    Fuck you.

    -Karl Marx

  • HeeHee. Both those guys are pretty cool, aren't they. Wouldn't it be great to see them in an argument?

  • "Dear Ron Paul,

    Fuck you.

    -Karl Marx"

    -Cosigned by Adam Smith.

  • heh, i like it

  • I disagree with Cenk's wording. The administration negotiated for fiscal input. They got that. The fact that the companies inputting the money chose/choose to increase participants' payments is just incidental and not coincidental.

  • Hey Obama, Ron Paul is looking better in 2010.

Remember when I voted for you? It can go the other way... And Dr. Paul is a smart sumamabitch.

  • Never say that faggots name EVER again.

  • the presidential election is in 2012...

  • Oh noes. I did type that in.

  • Why would you vote for a self-confessed free marketeer? Wouldn't that lead to a free market creating a corporatocracy?

  • That would create a true free market engaging in competition.

Where's the competition if all of our products are MADE IN CHINA?

  • In a free market, they'd ship the jobs over to China anyways for cheaper labor.

Competition is the worst thing in the world for a worker.

  • Who are you Nelson Rockefeller? He said the competition was evil.

WE HAVE NO COMPETITION WHEN EVERYTHING IS MADE IN CHINA!

  • I'm not Nelson Rockefeller, because I'm communist!

Competition lowers the wage of the working class. In a free market, the competition will eventually lead to a monopoly.

A free market leads to corporate of all wealth.

  • Well then you ought to know. There is no competition within communism and Rockefeller was a monopolist that was forced to dismember his wealth in favor of COMPETITION.

You could say that Rockefeller was a WEALTHY communist.

  • But without regulation, capitalism always leads to a monopoly.

In a communist system, workers are in control of the workplace.

  • Capitalism leads to monopoly? Without regulation?

Capitalism becomes stagnant without competition. When people are forced to purchase items from a monopoly, people will fashion there own for use and for profit.

The regulation comes from the people's ingenuity. Self-regulation is choice.

In Communism, there is no competition. The economy of a communist system is automatically stagnant since their is no positive growth. Since the people have no choice as what to buy (or say.)

  • You sound like someone trying to win at zen gardening.

You ever consider you might be approaching it all wrong?

What would be the point of pursuing an "automatically stagnant" system?

Communism essentially gives more people more power, in a very technical way...How do people have less choices? Do you truly feel capitalism has given you more choices? or more say? Because I feel like if you look at US political history, its pretty big joke if you think Americans have had any REAL say or choices.

  • What would be the point of pursuing an "automatically stagnant" system?

Someone that doesn't understand a Supply and Demand economy.

Communism essentially gives more people more power

Ask a Chinese dissident about that.

How do people have less choices?

    *See above.

Do you truly feel capitalism has given you more choices?

I can go out and by a Chevrolet or a Ford.

  • So thats it, everybody that has been in favor of communism in all of history doesn't understand Supply and Demand.... Its ok, when people are pressed on issues in a real way, they often dont see how incredibly retarded their assumptions are.

Wait so because China says their communists, they represent Communism??? So, Pinochet brought free market Capitalism to Chile, is that brutal human right criminal represent Capitalism? If so, I'm with China....

  • Name calling by a sock puppet account???

I see the fail is strong with you.

Oh, have you seen or heard a Chinese dissident lately? Probably not.

  • :::END AND FINAL TRANSMISSION:::

  • big joke if you think Americans have had any REAL say or choices.

    Obama>McCain

  • Americans do have a choice. Soon, there will be more of them knowing that the Republican and Democratic parties are shills.

    That leaves Americans voting Independent.

  • I understand that there are real arguments against communism, too idealistic etc.. But I believe your approach is very incorrect, in a very technical way.

You have an impression of communism, based on certain leaders and what capitalist press(the ones motivated by competition, not news, but you know all about that) tells you. But actually, its quite technically incorrect.

Also, do you consider China a stagnant economy?

Or do you not consider them Communists?

  • I understand that there are real arguments against communism

Arguments made by those that escaped communism.

based on certain leaders and what capitalist press(the ones motivated by competition, not news, but you know all about that) tells you.

Ask Chinese dissident. Or a Tibetan. Go find some Hungarians. They know all about communism.

Also, do you consider China a stagnant economy?

They are the worst form of communists...

    The ones that accept capitalism.

  • Or do you not consider them Communists?

Communist by policy, Capitalist by greed. The worst combination.

And the greatest for American capitalists that are unwilling to pay for health insurance for employees, deal with Unions, and pay taxes.

  • Really, Communists that accept Capitalism....

I think Karl Marx just laughed in your face...I know I am...

Pssssst, here a little secret, we call that capitalism....

Hey you know what, this one guy told me you should ask a Chinese dissident how bad China is, damn Capitalism!!!!
