  • It sounds built.. Being a tech, I'm interested in the internal mods and other upgrades if you'll share that info??

  • what kind of exhuast is that am interested in it

  • @drift18Japan Its custom made by Alunox Exhausts. 44mm x 1m primaries into single 4"

  • Sounds fantastic John, must catch up soon Mark!

  • What kind of exhaust do you have?

  • @Grimnest Its custom made by Alunox Exhausts. 44mm x 1m primaries into single 4"

  • What kind of exhaust do you have?

  • Where can I get the motor mounts for this buildup. I'm searching for a VH45 motor as I'm typing this. I'm also talking with 2 guys who each have a 300zx with different mods already done to it and deciding which to purchase and for what price. I want to do this build as a daily driver. Any info I get would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • did you have to fabricate a plate to make it fit with your transmission?

  • sounds like a koenigsegg ccx....but meaner lol. whoever made that exhaust knows what they hell they are doing!

  • You know i want an ss impala cus i know more on the lt1's but i own a q45 (vh45de) of course so help me out someone can i bore this thing out and rebuild help me out i always have issues finding what im looking for when i look up forums. Thanks..

  • So. much. want! my zx has a long way to go

  • what are the numbers she produces??

  • EPIC EPIC EPIC!!!!

  • Wow. I'm a VG30 purist but this is one of the coolest cars I have ever seen. First time Ive been ok with hearing V8 sound from a Z32

  • Whats the gas mileage on this beast? haha

  • I want ur motor in my 240sx

  • I want a vh45 z bad...this thing sounds amazing with ITBs

  • haha i was tossing up between a VH45DE and an LS1 for my S13.

    THIS HAS FUCKING SEALED IT!!!!

  • F**KING MONSTER!!!!! GREAT JOB.

  • It almost sounds like a Ferrari V8...but a bit different.

  • you manouvere that bout so easilly

  • dude breaks.....you mite wana fix that

  • @kathleenms3 just because they make noise doesnt mean anything is wrong with them...

  • dude breaks.....you mite wana fix that

  • @kathleenms3 spelling: brakes

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....

  • aaaack, squeeky brakes! other than that, this thing is a monster

  • one of the best sounding V8's ever made.

  • Nice car. Have you ever taken it to the dragstrip to see what kind of quarter mile times it runs?

  • IT SOUNDS LIKE A MUSTAG

  • when people talk about how a v8 roars this is the definition of a v8 roar cuz it actually sounds like a lion or tiger roar 1:54.

  • vacuum hoses n a furnace cover for a intake? u win

  • such a nice exhaust note suchs that the vh is still so pricey >.<

  • 4:00 HOLLLYY SHITTT!!!

  • what kind of exhaust is that

  • OMG that songs nice!

  • orgasmic.

  • Sounds fucking heavenly!

  • Dang dude, winds up like a ferrari V8.. What motor did you drop in there....??

  • @totalsnowjunky thats a VH45 engine its all nissan its the engine from the infiniti q45

  • sounds better than the american v8's (even the ls1) nice job

  • i know its your car and your style but the taillights are not so much what you would like to see on a Z

  • I never thought it could be done. I'm hoping some day to turbo an SL600 engine and put it in my Z, but i know its going to require lots of cutting and welding.

  • It's amazing that anyone is able to swap those VH45s into anything. The wiring in those is such a mess

  • those are some squeaky ass brakes son

  • how much can i get that engine and tranny for?

  • did you build that intake cover thing?

  • thats a z right!

  • sounds nice

  • loving the swap man the VH has a lot of potential i'm glad you kept it all nissan beautiful car reminds me of my uncles 90 Z32 TT he had when i was a younger.

  • Do you think I'd be able to put that sucker in my 88 300zx?

  • @unique1391

Pretty sure it's been done before. Both originally had VG30 inthem so it should fit.

  • @johndixon300 How much did you have to do for it to fit?

  • @unique1391

Biggest problems are gearbox, exhaust manifolds and sump pan. I made mine more difficult than it had to be because of ITBs, dry sump etc.

  • @johndixon300 can this car be dally driven?

  • @unique1391 This engine is too wide, it might fit though, very snugly. If you can do it you better put videos up.

  • @unique1391 well some food for thought the 88 300zx had the rb20det in japan from factory. So you know anykind of i6 skyline motor would fit.

  • @unique1391 yes it could be done

  • What an evil growl.

  • That's a scary sounding 300zx... I wouldn't fuck with that thing thats for sure.

  • Re sleeved. Exhaust is 1m x 44mm primaries with both banks merged into a single 4" pipe

  • was it re sleeved to 5.0 or bored with no sleeving? and what exhaust set up is this, i want my vh45 240sx to sound like this

  • dude that thing sounds sick as hell. a mustang aint got shit on this ride

  • Thats a real tuner, no fart cannons. no gaudy body kits with stickers everywhere. kudos dude, and it sounds kinda like muscle car on some of the flybys. very nice.

  • need brakes?

  • @MDC33147 either that or those calibers are gonna be scraped to dust

  • Yep, bored out VH45DE from infiniti Q45

  • what motor is this

  • @62BOWTIE It looks like a Vh45, they must have bored it out a little to make it 5 a liter.

  • what motor is this?

  • wat is that motor out of?

  • Great vid, great sound and great project.

  • thaqt thing heeds some wd40 some were dang

  • maybe its different over there but those are aftermarket tail lights?

  • @ryum99 Yep, aftermarket from Zcentre in UK

  • @johndixon300

Those tail lights are terrible, the only bad thing on this car. Sick engine setup though!

  • sounds like a 5.0 ...

  • sounds good...squeaky brakes

  • what the fuck is a 500zx?

  • @siliconsurf 300zx with a 5 liter motor

  • shit sounds soooooooooo mother fucking nice

  • hm. new take on z conversions. I kinda like the exotic tail light conversion....

  • love the sound

  • How much Wheel Horse Power is this thing putting out at the rear wheel?

  • need brakes....but its a monsterous car. lol

  • Mind telling me what that giant metal looking box is in the middle of your engine?

  • @QuadraplegicNinja

    Just the air box.

  • hey john my boy....... what headgaskets did ou go with . and did you follow the fsm's torque sequence, or just button it down the first time with no back out. my pass head is leaking .....getting frustrated ...cometic wanted $1500 per head to make up gaskets , and then i had to buy 10 of each for $96. LOL..... ideally i want to build another block with a GT4088r and some custom CP pistons . anyways, hoep your well .

  • @twistymcslide

Mine were made by ferriday engineering in the UK. Search for him, he will have the drawings on file and think they were about $450 for the pair for copper ones with sealing rings. He does multi-layer too, just make sure you tell him for standard bore, not 98m like mine.

  • @twistymcslide

Ferriday engineering in the UK did mine, search for him. He has the drawings on file and will be WAY cheaper than that. Just remember to tell him stock bore, not 98mm

  • @johndixon300 Do they have a swap kit for this ye?

  • @DVcustomZ Think CraigToyZ on nico forums does them. I did a couple for friends but with ITB and dry sump its a bit pricey for most!

  • @johndixon300 I was really looking mor so for the mounts. Wiring deal for my business partner. Wld not want ITB I am more or a forced indction guy. The dry sump is because of the oil pan issue or is it just better. minus the ITB how much are we talking US dollars I have a spare 300zx that I wante to do something other than VG30dett. VQ too weak IMO RB I d not believe in putting in smaller motors 2JZ=everywhere. it is either the VH or SRT-10 motor

  • WHAT A BEAST !!!

  • This is a lovely example buddy! Did you do the swap yourself or a company do it? I'm thinking of swapping the VG in mine but finding a company in UK to help might be difficult?

  • @D1s1drift Did it myself. What parts are you after or do you want someone to do the whole job? I can probably get all the parts together for you.

  • holy shit that sounds like a ferrari :D Very nice!

  • AND is that a flocked dash I see..

  • Front bar (I presume bumper?) is a modified stock one with a stillen lower lip.

And yes, dash is flocked, well spotted!

  • @johndixon300

I must know. What engine is being used and what is your exhaust setup? I love the sound.

  • @AggressiveAgnostic

The engine is a modified Nissan VH45DE (5.0l overbore, 12:1CR, dry sump, ITB's, 240deg cams). Exhaust is 44mm x 1m equal length primaries with single 4" main pipework. All custom by Alunox exhausts in the UK

  • @johndixon300

Forgive the cynicism, but Ive been getting a bit of negative feedback from my automotive know-how "references" with being told that the block will rupture and I will blow my engine if I overbore a 4.5L block to 5 L. But I tell them over and over that its not Iron, but rather Aluminum.

  • @AggressiveAgnostic

It depends on the engine in question. The the VH45 will take a 98mm bore no trouble with new liners. I believe some in New Zealand have taked them out to 4".

Amazing how many people say things 'cannot be done' but have never actually done anything themselves!

  • @johndixon300 What were the mods you used to increase the compression ratio?

  • What front bar are you running? Really classy import mate (I'm sure the vent will painted), good work.

  • Japanese muscle!!! nice!

  • fine f**kin car mate have 300zx wouldnt touch that thing.

  • I just bought a vg30dett swap and now I wanna do this v8 swap instead, just because of that sound.

  • Sounds amazing, I like what you did with the front end.

  • im not sure about the grill, but those tails gotta go :-/ sick ass car though, for sure.

  • Nice ass fuck car all around! Sounds like a new shelby gt 500.

  • Fabulous work! I wish I could get mine to sound like that. Do you have a website that posts what mods you have done to the engine? I have a 1972 450Z and would like to start extracting more power from the VH45DE. Were did you get the cams?

  • Drop me a message and I'll send you then link, can't seem to post links here!

  • my god man...too cool

the rear lights look like they came from a Lamborghini Diablo

  • That's an honest swap in a way. 2000+ Diablos drive around with 300ZX headlights:)

I don't like these taillights though.

  • sounding good john i love my tt but i know what you mean about the lag its really bad, you'll not have problems with that now though lol the throttle response must feel amazing

  • I get so orgasmic whenever I hear this thing hit it. I want to make babies with this car no lie.

  • I lol'd

  • i have vh45de 90 for sale

  • how much..I need 1

  • where you live i dont no the shiping cost

  • John, how's progress coming?

The overrun on this setup is aural pornography.

You need to take this thing by Clarkson's house.

    Ah yeah, love the noises!

  • What kind of exhaust is that?

  • Custom made by Alunox in Wrexham

  • how much does the swap cost when can my car be worked on??

  • Are you in the USA? There's a guy called CraigToyZ on Nico forum who does them over there

  • Can you tell me where you purchased your rear tail lamp conversion, it looks awesome!

  • Its from the ZCentre in nottingham, UK

  • Awesome!!! I love the exhaust note!!! Very well done!!

  • MY LORD!!! 1:53 thats only a VH45 the lil guy hmmm sound of a nissan v8 b intresting to hear a vk56 actually i have inside a drifter 350z

  • quick question john, how much power and torque are you making at the crankshaft?

  • 420bhp/350ft-ibs but have some camshaft issues so going to pull the motor, sort them out and see what it can really do.

  • so you are expecting more once you get the cams sorted out?

  • So Awesome!!! Thats the way Z's should be...N/A with huge Nutz!!!

  • MASSIVE NUTZ

  • nice swap mate...

any numbers?? hp or 1/4 mile???

    keep it uppp

  • Is this a vk56de swap? Or a Vk45de swap? Im thinking of doing that swap with my 300zx 95. Which one takes more fabrication and is overall better?

  • It's a VH45, have no idea on the VK, sorry.

    Try NICOCLUB

  • A vk56 is going to be a more difficult swap being as the engine is more expensive and parts availability is lower. The external dimensions of the two motors are fairly similar. I'd recommend a vh45 though. A vh45 can be had quite cheap from a 90-96 q45, and since the swap has been done in the 300zx and the 240sx already, there is quite a bit of background knowledge already. The vh45 is a pretty stout motor considering how cheaply it can be acquired.

  • What's your exhaust setup?

  • 44mm x 1m tubular headers into single 4" pipe. Small centre silencer then large rear one with a bypass around it. All done by Alunox Exhausts in wrexham

  • thats how that car should of came stock. it would of been no competiton for the cars in its class.

  • Had it came like that stock, it'd clearly be in a different class.

  • no cause the covette had a v-8 mate.

  • so did the lotus espirt

  • The 300zx is not in the same class as the corvette or the esprit. Not even close. Both of those cars are about a full second faster in the 1/4 mile than the 300zx. Wether or not those cars have a v8 is irrelevant. If the 300zx had a v8 instead of a TT v6, it would not have been in the same class of cars that it was...period.

  • stangaddiction101 I have the motor Trend issue of "The battle of the super cars" and it is in the same class. why dont you look it up before you type.

  • It doesnt matter what you have what you have. It's common sense. It's hard to place cars in the same class when one cant compete with the others...

  • I dont agree with that although it is an awesome swap and sounds good he is getting the same power out of this as the stock 300zxtt with a good tune. Check ASH-SPEC a premeir tuner for the 300zx 410whp bone stock. they went the right way but this a good job

  • Not for long when the cams are done. Kinda missing the point though, its not all about the numbers, I HATE turbo motors and their rubbish elastic throttle response and lag so I'm much happier with this now. Also, this make over 300IB-ft all the way from 2k to 5k rpm even now, no VG30DETT will do that. Down any given bit of road, this is much, much quicker than a turbo car of the same power because you can use it so much better.

  • I see your point not to argue but thats not acurate my vg30dett 2 years ago made 384ft lbs at 3k and 374 whp @5500 was leaning out couldnt go to redline. There is such a thing called boost done right.I start spool at 2400rpm full boost by 5k its a conversion so I have the 4.10 with true dual intake(amongst other mods)so my throttle response is as fast as I need it to be. It pulls from 2k rpms. Not trying to create an which is better arguement just was curious of your motives still sounds awesome

  • My VG was a similar spec by the sound of it but I still prefer the NA every time. Horses for courses really. Has the 4.1 held up OK, I'm planning this next

  • in USD how much would you say this swap ran you. Wouldnt mind trying but it would still get boost I gotta have my boost (I may need rehab ha ha) I would think that with the increased dispacement I could get the best of all aspecs. Displacement/import/boost/tq-hp/best all the sexy Z32

  • You don't want to know!!! If you want to do it, there is a company in the US doing turnkey conversion for $3500, you could boost that up then. Most of the cost of mine was dry sump, increased displacement/rev limit and ITB's, none of which are essential to get it running, just nice to have.

  • thanx

  • Mate, INSPIRATIONAL stuff.

Makes me want to go out and blow up my VG30 so I have a reason to swap out.

The sound at the end of your clip is .....well it may as well be a Ferrari. Out of this world.

And the roads...makes me miss England too lol.

  • quick question. I stumbled onto some claimed info that the vh is heavier. is it true? not that it matters but im just curious all this time i thought it was lighter.

  • I've heard both too, guess it prob depends on what ancillaries are attached, turbos etc. I do know the front ride height has risen on mine so I'd say for my install it's lighter overall.

  • im planning on a n/a high output stock block high rev unit. with individual throttles and a dry carbon airbox on top of the stacks. that ought to be lighter than a vg30dett. The genral info is the vh45 is lighter but then theres i odd ones that end up heavier. oh well i guess i have to check mine out for myself. thanks for the info.

  • from 4 minutes onwards, the sound is insane!!.....*looks at my VH45*

  • oh mannn thats so baller

what kind of grille is that?

  • Its the stock pre-99 bumper with the middle bar removed and a stillen lower lip. The centre nose panel is from the zcentre in the UK

  • where can i get more info about doing this swap in the us on a na 2 seater?????

  • Try nicoclub forums, loads of great info there.

  • That is crazy! I love that sound!

  • I think the Z needs some new shims and lube for the front brake pads.

    Motor sounds great, nice work

  • Sounds like a real beast and can probably go like one too.

Have we got the supporting mods to handle all of this NA power?

Hint - loose the tail lights, it's not a Ferrari / take care of excessive rust in hind quarter / fix brakes - either too hard a compound or warped rotors?

Nice BBS wheels though. I got the same with my RHD JDM Z.

Very creative project nonetheless - kudos!!

  • Yes, everything else is sorted too.

And I like the rear lights, why I changed them in the first place. Can't stand the stock ones.

  • @jschrauwen

Ferrari doesnt have a monopoly on those headlights man!!! They look dope!!!!
