  • I had completely forgotten about this special until I found my storybook version of it the other day. Do they even show this on TV anymore? I remember watching it maybe once and then I could never find it again. Ah well, thank you for posting!

  • Dipstikk, the bald duck represents Curly from the Three Stooges.

  • Sudy Nim = Robin Williams

  • Plucky Duck

  • Earlier on Opus says he needs Bill like he needs butt implants.

And now his butt keeps falling off.

I guess Opus really does need Bill.... and butt implants.

  • Haven't seen this Christmas short in years, seemed alot longer then.

  • My favorite Bill The Cat story was when he was brainwashed by Michael Eisner to put the hit on Mortimer Mouse.

  • a frog in ice water?

  • trump bot this junk that had alot of funk

  • I love the little bald duck, and how his scalp is like half the size of the rest of his head. People don't often realize how small birds actually are without feathers.

  • wow,, didnt know bloom county was video.. named my cat "little Bill" cuz he aint right

  • Thank you SO much for posting this, you made my day :D

  • "SUCK UP AN ALBATROSS!!!" LOL. I love that!

  • 7:58 ~

    I woke up this mornin',

    My wings' ain't no use;

My butt down on my shoes,

I got those flightless, earthbound blues.

I feel your pain, babe. I was hoping they'd put that raging piano solo in there.

  • "Rhinosarus Coming Through!!"

  • "Don't suck a duck into your turbines!" - "An ALBATROSS - suck up an ALBATROSS!"

  • Albatross! Suck up an albatross!!

  • Starboard Stabilizing Allertuder!!!! So awesome...^ ^

  • The beginning of this video almost tricked me there! I was watching the first thirty seconds thinking that this must be some kind of cruel joke. I spent the next thirty seconds typing up a comment to express my displeasure. Lucky for me, I heard Opus's voice before I could finish. I would imagine that somebody would have called me an idiot for not watching the rest of the video if I did post that rant...

  • For my money, the best Christmas special ever made. "I see no penguins here whose wings merely sputter. Tonight it was courage that flew yours beyond others."

  • This leaves me with a really happy feeling.

  • This is the Laserdisc version, right? See the video stop: You'll find the word Laserdisc.(8:49)

  • Gotta love Bill

  • Is one of those birds voiced by Sylvester?

  • I love this so very very much. A shame Berk didn't make any more.:(

  • Favorite line in the whole show:

Opus: And Bill, try not to give anybody RABIES!!

  • This has been one of my favorite shows of all time since I first saw it on t.v.

About three weeks ago I found this on dvd at Big Lots for $3.00. Until then I always had to cue up a crappy vhs version that I recorded from television. I watched this with my kids this year for the first time and I plan to make it a tradition for us.

Thank you for posting it! I am stuck at work today and this has brightened my day!

  • Everyone notice Robin William's voice?

  • @AutoStigmata I thought that was robin williams, but he wasn't credited so i wasn't sure.

  • @mhennessy It is, he used a blunt sudonym: Sudy Nim 8:02

  • ToonJoey34 That movie is called The Lost Horizon 1937.

  • it's frank capra's lost horizon, 1937

  • Comment removed

  • What movie is this in Opus's dream?

  • @ToonJoey34 6:08 On the wall of his bedroom there is a movie poster for 'Lost Horizon.'

  • "Sudy Nim"? Yeah, right! That was Robin Williams as that Kiwi...who does he think he's foolin'?

  • Berk will be back. He has a major movie coming out next year, starring Joan Cusack and Seth Green.

  • I like that part where his butt falls off.

  • @jediskunk67

I like it when his eyeballs pop out whenever he's startled. XD

  • So Opus finally got to fly. I'd have to say that this is now one of my favorite Christmas specials ever, next to Peanuts and Hey Arnold.

  • I have watched this every xmas with my dad. He dies laughing when he says Ailertooter. So he bought me a personalized license plate for my car that says AILR2TR. I will forever remember this short little show.

  • @andycamby Omg, thats awesome :D

  • you falling behind hair b t..lol

  • Yay, I missed this when it was on and don't own a teevee no mo. So thanks so much for posting.

  • ah, god bless berkely breathed. we'll miss you pal.

  • "he's not dead yet"

  • i know but he not putting any more stuff out hes retiring so we will miss his stuff, i mean i still long for bloom county.

  • It's true. I miss his stuff too. I was shocked when Opus (the fourth strip) ended. I was opening up my newspaper to read it and it wasn't there. I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Ah well, I still have my dad's Bloom County books to read.

  • that was funny!

    Thanks

  • I can fly this thing! I can fly this thing! Left foot, left rudder! Starboard stabilizing Ailertuder! *LOL* Probably my favorite part of this show. (Yes, I do remember when this first came out!)

  • This was my favorite Christmas cartoon as a kid. My mom and I would watch it every year. Seeing it again, it's still my favorite. The humor is great, definitely not dumbed down to make it "politically correct". There are jokes for adults that completely fly over kids heads; the cross-dressing cockroach for example.

  • you are lucky. i wish i had discovered this when i was a small kid. however, i read bloom county when i was eight.......

i love this. its possibly my favorite christmas special.

    yay opus!

  • gotta love Bill

  • did they ever make a cartoon with the milo and the others

  • What is that b/w movie he dreamed about? Dude looks like Rhette.

  • Shangri-La

  • Lost Horizon (1937) - That's Ronald Coleman you're seeing, not Clark Gable.

The clip is near the beginning of the film, where the plane is highjacked & then crash lands and they end up in Shangri La - that mysterious place of contentment with the way things are instead of the way we want them to be - just the thing that Opus lacks ...

  • What ever happened to Milo, Steve, Auggie, Portnoy and the others? Did they go to Outland to?

  • Milo made one appearence towards the end of "outland"' one panel only, & he just looks at you. Breathed made Steve gay & coupled him up with Mark slackmeyer of "Doonesbury". steve was brought back to "normal" in Opus. Auggie came back in Opus, along witk Binkley. Sadly, Portnoy never reappeared- he was one of my favorite characters in Bloom county, with his know-it-all self-rightousness.

  • You know, my sister says it's not fair because he didn't get what he wanted from Santa, and even after watching it again here, my answer is still the same.

Ge DID get his wish, he may not fly every day, but he DID get to fly, he got his wish.

    I still love this video!

  • I've always enjoyed this since it aired on TV. Berke Breathed really hated it though, saying "we could've done better" and that you'd have to be on speed to like it. Luckily he wants to do a Bloom County movie.

  • in the comics, truffles was called Hamon eggs

  • To the one who added this Thank you is not Enough .....I thought this was lost to History ! You have the "Thanks of a Greatful Nation ! "

  • I remember waiting the entire school day to see this cartoon. I waited, had dinner, did my homework, and I only got to see the Stormin' Norman toy store. That was years ago, thanks for putting it here for all to see.

  • That was cool, man. Thanks so much for uploading. Very cool to see this again after all those years.

  • Opus sounded just like I thought he would ^^

    Milquetoast is quite different, though.

Possibly the best Christmas special ever.

  • Albatross!

    lol

  • There are still logos for Amblin Television and Universal Cartoon Studios. The animated version of Amblin Television and Universal Cartoon Studios logos debuted on Back to the Future - The Animated Series.

  • I have it on VHS and DVD.

  • I remember watching this and thought it was a nice break from the Christmas norm. I've always like this and thought it was about time for Bloom County to get a shot on tv....and to do something like this was just perfect. One of my all time favs and needless to say I'll be looking for the DVD.

  • I got my DVD at Best Buy last week.

Hope Berkeley Breathed makes some more Bloom County/Outland/Opus films.

  • YES!

For those of you who would like this on dvd, it was just released on 11-06-07!

    Merry Christmas!

  • thank you for posting this. i haven't seen this in years.
