Phils early albums were miles ahead of time. I loved the track "Electrik Head" from 1968...very spacey. I agree with you entirely. Love that photo at 0.21. secs.
@Toracube i know he was a session guitarist for cadet records when he wasn't making his own albums for the label so it's possible he did work on some rotary connection lps. i haven't listened to those in a long time though.
@roscoegino Yes he was in Rotary Connection. Their recordings with Muddy Waters is a definite must. Look up for "Electric Mud", mind blowing psych-blues-funk!
@TheNiceroad Oh yeah, Electric Mud is the joint! Muddy Waters was given alot of flack for doing that record because people thought it was an abomination to true blues. But it's funky as hell.
@roscoegino To what I've read on that album, Muddy wasn't too fond of the music himself. It was arranged by Chess Records producer and Cadet Concept Records founder Marshall Chess to revive Waters career. For sure most blues people hate that album, but hey if one is into funk or psychedelic rock, it is a pure gem! Myself, I like all three! ;)

Yes Phil Upchurch was in Rotary Connection. We used to see him at Roberts show lounge at Roberts motel in Chicago on 63rd street in '72 and '73
But the treat was the Cancer-Libra band with Donny Hathaway,Duke Payne
and Morris Jennings.
