is she completely out of service now. i remember goin to one of her last galas at the ELR not long after she got her green livery but wasnt sure if her withdrawal was permanent.
An excellent video of 46229 in action, I remember seeing this loco in the fifties at Crewe on my way from Wales to Yorkshire, and she was in BR Green Livery at the time...5* Bob
drob1980..I totally agree with you..as streamlinig was part of the pre-war attraction to win over the travelling public..road services were also threatening to rail travel at the time..luring passenger and freight away alike..thank you for this great piece of footage..
I personally do not approve of what the have done to 46229 by putting back the streamline casing, it should have stayed in its BR guise as streamlining was cosmetic compared to the LNER A4s whose streamline casing was actually a fundamental part of its design
@Nastyswimmer I have been told by a fireman of the LM region that it was a struggle when he used to fire Princess Royals and Duchess's/Princess Coronations from London to Crewe to fire them fast enough if they tried to go above the usual speed and with there being not enough room for 2 to fire it it sadly wouldn't happen looks great though and @dm3830 no the Germans shouldn't Mallard hit 90mph going up hill then the famed 125mph just after and the papers are there to prove it :)
very,very impressive indeed.

Awesome scenes, just right for any train set manufacturer to put on the box of a train set!

Obviously better boiler, better valvegear than Mallard but fairs fair the Germans should have the record no?

She's at the NRM, streamlined. They've made modifications to the streamlining so that she complies with modern load gauging...so never say never.

What's wrong with streamlining a steam locomotive? I think she looks nice streamlined, it would be great to see her run in streamlined form.

I don't either, it is criminal to have a loco as good as that stuffed and mounted. The money should have been spent on putting it back into steam.

@ShaurntheSheep Maybe - but with some decent coal and two men shovelling she should be able to beat the Mallard's record
