How did you go about going from 2nd back into 1st. All the wrx's i'v seen you almost have to come to a complete stop to return back into 1st. Just curious because I also have a bugeye and plan on autocrossing it this summer and that was my main concern. thanks
You just have to get used to double clutching back into 1st gear... that's all I was doing in this video. Since then I've changed transmission fluid to a blend of a few different types of gear oil and that's helped a bit too. The stock 1st gear synchro isn't very good so the thing that will help you the most is learning to double clutch into 1st :)
Also, in addition to my other response, if you're just starting out I'd recommend just staying in 2nd gear (after you've shifted there for the first time) for a few runs so you can focus on learning the proper line and not shifting which is a lot less important in the long run :) Once you know the course then you can start wrestling with the downshift, practicing double clutching when you drive your car daily will really help you learn the technique too...
What exhaust do you have on it?! :O
