oh my gosh...so much debate. immu thank you for all your insight about the origin of khatak.i am half turkish so i was always drawn to khatak than to the other classical indian dances. i find them a bit too strong in exprssion and animated. as for the person who is preaching to me, i appreciate your concern. by the grace of allah i am well aware of my own spirituality and that of my realtiohship with allah.
Also while Bharatanatyam is rich with a treasure trove of hastaks, mudras and karanas, Kathak boasts numerous intricate footwork patterns and spins. If anything the derivatives of Bharatanatyam are Kuchipudi, Odissi and Mohiniattam. Even the ghungroos of Bharatanatyam differ greatly from the ones used in Kathak. The vocabulary also is very different beyond hast mudras. Kathak has Turkish and Persian influences. Bharatanatyam does not.
Sorry but in actuality all Indian classical dances emerged from one common Indian classical dance which was never named or codified. Bharatanatyam originated in the Chidambaram temples of Tamil Nadu and is primarily made from more than 100 poses of Shiva. Kathak originated in the temples of North India and primarily tells the tales of Krishna and Radha. There are some common elements such as hastaks and mudras
If u are a muslim then tell u 1 thing islam doesnt allow dancing in public. Ask Allah for forgiveness and he will forgive u. Being a muslim its my duty to stop u from evil things. i wish u never get time for more dances and i wish u spend yr time learning about islam.
You're right. As a muslim it's your duty to prevent another muslim from what is evil. Now if we can only define what is evil and what is not. In this case we don't know for sure that her intent is evil and clearly there is a verse that says your aamaal are dependent on your niyah. The only kind of dancing that is forbidden in Islam is one that stirs people away from Ibaadah, or aims to sexually tempt the audience or physically, emotionally or psychologically harms anyone.
Furthermore, many case studies often point out that the number of prostitutes and sex trade workers in South Asia, East Asia etc are women who were sold by their own parents, husbands, uncles etc. I think our greater concern right now should be to work towards human sex-trafficking, provocation of the uneducated masses by religious zealots and honour killings and rape of women by multiple men for a "crime" her brother or father committed.
omgggggggg you are soooooo goodd..wow im stunned by the grace n beauty of ur dance
to others, i think your dance is very beautiful to wtch not like vulgar dances. this is wht u can dance. i bet ur family n friends n youtube wtchers are soo proud of you. i know i am. mindblowing performance
suggestion for you - u should dance on der na ho jaye from the movie heena. beautiful dance n song. =)
oh thank you soooo much that is so kind of you.....i am really humbled...i am so etremely busy at the moment and am dying to start a new performance..but finding the time is really hard!!!!i hope soon i will have another few dances to show you..am so delighted you enjoyed watching it...thank you.
oh no i don't mind you saying what you did..i just thought it is important for others who this to understand...thats all..i didn't mind at all...LOL...
i wasn't trying to prove anything...but i made a statement and you responded to it and i felt it needs to be clarified for others who may not understand this..thats all..thank you so much for your well wishes....and yes dancing makes me immensly happy...and muslim or not it is something i know i was born with...i have fatih in allah that he knows what he is doing and why he gave me this passion!
...because unlike in hinduism and some other cultures dancing esp by women for entertainment in islam was and is still not considered lawful or respected.
khatak has originated form the hindu bhratanatyam and other related dances with some easter influence. but for the mughlas this was purely for entertainment not worship. so although, it was respected for its elegance and its beauty and maybe also for the rigouous talent and training it required..the mughals (as you can see in mughla-e-azam) being muslims did not consider the performers to be respectable standards unfortunately.
i am fully aware that for hindus and buddhist their traditional other religious dances are a part of their religion a part of worship and probably also and intergrated part of their culture...khatakali or khatak was adopted by the muslim community that evolved as a result of the mughal influence and rule of the time and together with some influences from the east the creative artist developed this dance for the entertainment of the emperors.
it was performed by women who were not just admired for their dances and singing but that little bit more...today we do these and people appreciate the history..but there is still a view that ultimately the majority (maybe not all) of dancers in that time were courtesans...and women of the trade.
i am form the muslim community..i don't want to give the country or culture away but unfrotunately all the dances i do are portrayed by the courtesans of that time...as you can imagine regardless of how beauiful and its part in history..
i do find that visually these dances are much nicer and entertaining....i love the histoy behind these dances and their poetry is something else.....unfortuntaely, these dances are also viewed badly in our cummunity...but i feel that in this day and age people should appreciate the history and their origins and admire the beauty of it ...
Well I don't know to which community you belong to, Kathakali is a respected dance form in India as it originates from South-India and has a long history. Other than that, the original Kathakali is much better in which the dancer tells a story (in Malayalam "katha" means a story and "kali" means a play). The dance form used in Umrao Jaan is the edited version of original Kathakali which the dancers used to perform in the Mughal period and in which Urdu poetry was used. Original is better though
I know this is three years too late but I only just got to this video and this post so I think I'll give a bit of an input... Kathak and Kathakali are not the same dance at all. Kathakali is a South Indian dance with no muslim influences, loud make up, exaggerated expressions, mask work, elaborate costumes and jewellery and performed in the classic squat position where as Kathak is a North Indian dance with much muslim influence, subtlty, lots of spins and immense footwork done on straight legs
no..not really..my cousins all do the modern stuff and if you look at two of my other videos i think people find it more easier and esp young girls find it more fun to do the modern dances...i like my old stuff and i ike the intrequite dances...i enjoy the modern dances but after a while i belive they all look the same to me....hence i pick the dances that i do...after a couple of bhangras and mdern bollywood hangama coming on to do somthing like this really captivates the audience...
wow that was so great andi love the song i have it on one of my favorites. you did the performance exactly like the video. im suprised u did a wonderfuljob.
please see my other performance too...i hope you enjoy them as much. and thank you for such a lovely comment. type in bollywood dance by yasmin and you should get some more of my dances.
wow, your dance was superb,so fluent, joyful and expressive!i really enjoyed it more than the film version because its a whole dance, not just some edited gestures, and because it seems more natural. much respect to you from yasemin(yees, almost same name:=)
thank so muh this is such a lovely comment i am most humbled...i myself think it needed alot of improvemnt becasue there was an interruption to the spng..but i had family watching so still feel i was slightly inhibited..and look like i was concentrating too hard in some places...nevertheless i am so greaful for your comments and encouragment.
no,i think you look like you enjoy it very much:)but of course one is always much more critical about oneself,me too..anyways,you should try "maar dala"from devdas,i would love to see you interprete this!
do see the professional recording of the same dance. it looks much better and you can see my expressions better. also do have a look at all my other dances..you have to type bollywood dance by yasmin and all of them should come up...i hope you enjoy all of them...
thank you so muhc for your positive comments. i love it when the audiance enjoys my performance. its such a blessing! thank you. i have done several dances over the years and some public performances. i will put these soon on here as well do eep a look aout. love you all..
