How to break into your car with a coat hanger

a cop showed us how to get into our 2008 car with a coat hanger cause our friend locked the keys inside haha. Its quite a bit harder than this as you have to pull the door as far as it will go and then jam the coat hanger in through top. took us about an hour and a half, but it worked haha

Used this to get into a '92 car. It took about 5 mins before I found the spot. "The spot" was just under the button, on the side away from door opening. What helped the most was lifting the rubber seal off. It is actually pinned in long ribbon which comes off quite easily. Don't know if that applies to most cars. Once that was out I could see and push around quite easily.

@batmanbeyond400 Spray some wd40 into the key lock and jiggle it around, our car's locks were really stiff too when we got it. Lube it up a bit and it is much easier to turn

This works for any car older than 2008 (Not including high end cars), other that that if your vehicle is newer than 2008 there is a panel that covers the lock mechanism.

@thgron85 Some cars just won't do it! Altho I do recall popping a lock once on an old corolla, Id say just keep at it, don't get frustrated and break something. Try both passenger and drivers side sometimes it takes a little messing around with

Hey,

I do this for a living, and this technique will work on most doors with the slide up and down type of lock. These locks are on almost all Fords and Chryslers, and many foreign cars, but some have guards in them, that require a different technique.

@TheArvinian01 Actually, power locks are not a problem. If you feel something "squishy", then stop, you are hung on the power lock wires. Readjust your hanger, feel around while looking at the button, and gently pull up when you see the button moving.

thanks a million dude! Somebody on the steet suggested I use a coat hanger, so I went on YouTube, found this video, and 5-10 minutes of jiggling later, I got the thing open! I do have to say that there are two coat hanger thicknesses, and you have to use the thick one. The thin ones are typically painted white or baby blue, and the thick ones you get from the dry cleaner, with the paper dowel across the bottom. Best of luck to everyone else!

On a Toyota Corolla. Pop off the trim, use a screw driver to pry at the mechanism, pop the trim back on. On my Corolla, there was a large piece of metal in the way with small holes drilled in it, almost impossible to loop a coathanger into. But all cars are different.
