I feel that Liberians are trying to erase the memories of so called 'Settler' Liberians or rather Congoes. Believe me when I say the Congoes did wrong by the natives but I beleive they get more than their fair share of blame. In 133 years of rule there was not one period as bad as what Liberia has stooped to now. Some of the wrongs Congoes are blamed for are not even true... I might add that the practice of slavery did not occur and that the King Administration was cleared of those charges.
@wynmack I agree Liberia needs to look for partners elsewhere but one cannot reverse what has been done. Liberia has an American heritage...it is not an American country but the very name of the country is linked to America..... Changing physical signs will not change the mentality...mentality is mentality and it is the latter that needs to change. Americo Liberians or Congoes or whatever are not going disappear. And though they did wrong I feel they get more than their fair share of blame.
Sure could do without the EATA statements on here cause they haven't a clue of what reality is. They should stick to the usual putting their head in the dirt, or up their rear. chimps!
I'm glad that Ma' Ellen recognizes that Liberia needs to find it own identity in order to unify the entire nation. Americo-Liberians or native Liberians, we are all Liberians.
These original freed niggers that went to this place already had plenty of training in farming and such. Why isnt that land full of crops and livestock?
My idea of reparations is a one way air ticket back to the beloved homeland of Africa. Problem is they won't go and the real Africans don't want them back. I wonder why? lol.
mcnabj - Well put. I believe it would be in our own national interest to strongly promote (even force) a migration to Liberia.
I already pay $80K per year in Federal income taxes, I'd gladly pay double that as long as I knew the additional $80K would be soley dedicated to the migration to Liberia program.
Such a program would need to be privatized since the Federal Gov isn't very efficient. I'm sure that such an efficently run company could deport at least 500K criminals per year! Yeah!
This is my ideal dream come true. Please dear God allow this to happen. People could actually go down town at night and not fear for their lives. WOW. Imagine that. All inner cities would be revived and be safe. Trash would be picked up. the drug dealer on the corner would be gone. PLEASE GOD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
You are absolutely right!!! If it cost every American man, woman and child 160 K it would be a national bargain the likes of which have never been seen before.
You asked earlier what a NASA was. I apologize I should have been clearer at the time but NASA is an acronym for North American Street Ape. Kind of a high tech and it makes them feel important.
The Liberian people should been cut off from the USA. After they killed off the black American families. You are cannibals and should be exterminated. You bring shame to people of color. Rosie was wrong to help you. It is stupid to support your enemy.
Nothing wrong with the national anthem. They only thing is that the emblem that say the love of liberty brought us here it should be the love of liberty unit us.
No. Live as an independent republic, which is the point of the flag, i.e., the Lone Star. Don't forget that the Lone Star stood as a beacon of hope to other African countries still living under colonial rule and apartheid.
Perhaps. I'd be open to considering "updating" the flag, but I get nervous about changing our identity wholesale. Our problem is not our flag, it is our people who have been manipulated into thinking we cannot celebrate our differences. Moreover, neither me, you, or Obama was contemplated when the U.S. designed its flag, but we have a black president who stands proud under that same flag that oppressed our people. We can do the same under our flag, don't you think?
We are not America's step-child. We are an Independent country. We need to think that way. Liberians need to follow in President Tobert's footsteps as exporter rather than importers. Stop trying to imitate America. We should not be followers. I am a native Liberian, with my own culture and traditions. I am no step child to America.
look your country has ties to us whether u believe it or not....but u can form ur own identity while still having ties to the USA its not a bad thing....im not saying dont be proud of ur country but the fact remains dat ina way it is our stepchild cause african americans formed a big part of it
@zionah8 True...but fact is that even your calling yourself a "native Liberian" links you to American culture because before the first Liberians arrived in 1821 and 1822, "Liberian" was not a term used by indigeneous people toward themselves
@netaddict6989 You must not have much to do. I was born in a country named Liberia. My passport says Liberia. I am a proud Liberian. But my blood lline is not linked to free blacks from America. That's a fact. There is no argument here. I don't believe that Liberians are step-children to any country. .
@zionah8 Well said! The Indigenous "Liberians" are the true sons and daughters of the soil, and are rightfully the ones who should set the agenda! Liberia is a step child to NONE....LEAST of all America!
@netaddict6989 What's your point? I'm a proud Liberian. My point is not about the name of my country. A country which defines itself as independent should not label itself as a step child. The United States is not a step child to England and neither should Liberia be a step child to America.
@zionah8 I never said Liberia was America's stepchild and I have never said that nonsense in my life. What I am responding to is the seeming new wave of getting rid of historic portions of Liberia simply because it is supposed to be "American". Liberia is NOT America's stepchild, but in much the same way you cannot separate the US from Britain and Europe in terms of certain cultural and political structures that have lent themselves from Europe to America...
@zionah8...so America has lent certain cultural things to Liberia. Liberia is very much African but it was founde by American slaves. And your wrong Ziona8...I never said CURRENT Liberians of indigeneous ancestry did not call themselves Liberians I said historic Liberians before the arrival of the settlers in the 1820s did not call themselevs Liberians and this is an example of how American culture and heritage is interwined with Liberia's African heritage...here is my quote....
@zionah8 I apologize if it seemed I was implying that indigeneous Liberians were not Liberians...I was simply stating before the arrival of the settlers, indigeneous Liberians did not refer to themselves as Liberians but rather referrred to themselevs according to their tribe. So it was the introduction of American settlers that began the modern Liberian nation.
@zionah8 You need to more than export. If you are exporting cheap raw materials and cash crops that is not good. You need to import capital goods and export finished products.
The Institution and culture are derived from the america Liberains, it is there land and they need to drive out the indigenueos wicked people

I have long support the idea of reinstituting a "return trip". So many blacks here in American hate their own country, Liberia is an excellent option!
We need to make it clear, however, it's a one way trip. Once homie is amongst his own kind in Africa, he'll realize how good he had it in the U.S.
