I have the same drumsticks! they have amazing rebound and are very light, I totally dig them. only after a few drum sessions they already look pretty destroyed, with the paint instantly going away when you hit the side of your cymbal. great tutorial and cool beard.

@jbold5 I do use it the finger method 95% of the time in my band, but it’s good to learn this method too because if you switch off the drums do have a different feel.. I also use a lot of switching between euro blast and traditional in my new project both using fingers. if you havent already...learn the Moeller technique it will give you what you need to move from wrist to fingers smoothly.

awesome man, ya know do whatever feels best for you, thats what i like about drumming....theres no golden book on how to play the beats, just get the sound out and get it on time. but yeah if you use the wrist technique you'll get serious power. i use pretty much this method for slower blast beats, works very well.

Actually you can play very fast blast beats by using your wrist only, the key is to lock your arm and to hold the stick with a loose german grip (all your fingers being in contact with the stick, but never moving, and the stick must as much as possible not touch your palm). Your wrist is not "really" bending, the motion comes mainly from the arm, try it and you will probably get a good 210 bpm but sustaining this for a long time requires practice to strengthen the arm. Look at Roddy's left hand.

while I use finger control with my left, I chose to develop this "arm technique" with my right hand because I apparently have odd fingers on this side : they don't want to bounce the stick quickly, I tried to practise slowly and relaxed for long periods and began to feel like a slight carpal tunnel syndrome so it was obviously better to find another technique.

I don't think you could do grindblast (like 300 bpm) with this though .. I'd like to ask Derek Roddy himself ;)
