The Silver Chord is one of my favorite cds because I think it tells the story of a period in a person's life. The songs/mood of the album starts out with the person defeated, depressed, & a little mournful with "The End", then goes to giving vague reasons why, then goes to determined and passionate, then the person begins to open his/her eyes and see that suicide and drugs aren't the way out, then the cd ends on a positive, high note with the last song, fittingly, "The Beginning". Quite Poetic.

He's in the suicide lane coz he wants to kill himself, but is looking for a sign in the headlights (a reason not to do it). Sitting by the train tracks just means that he is thinking about killing himself, and is waiting for the planets to align (waiting for something to happen and his life to change for the better.) That's what I think, anyway.
