So a British band has a say on US politics! So what! We had to put up with that idiot Bush as well you know! What matters is that this is a great song by a great band. RIP Stuart Adamson!
How can a working-class group like Big Country support lefty liberal ideas!? Bizarre... When you're poor and you work hard for your money, you can't afford to be giving your money away to people who don't even try to work. That's why I can never be a liberal. Too bad Big Country got awful. Too bad...
Georgeinnepa you are right, you are not as narrow minded as others seem to be, I see you like the Clash too, good to see you can see beyond politics and appreciate good music :)
I have to say, I am a conservative and I LOVE this song... it just makes you want to get up and move.... That is the thing about Big Country... you may not agree with what the lyrics say, but good GOD could they ROCK!!!
Of course I 'get the gist of what this is saying'. I see that McCarthyism is alive and well and still living in the USA!! The fact that this group stuck to their principles and didn't sell out for money is probably beyond your comprehension. For me, that makes me admire them. Sad to see that you are too narrow minded to see beyond your own predjudices.
Lowoil, 'the mental health of far left liberals is often shaky' wtf? I'm a 'far left liberal'and I find that comment insulting. Stuart had depression, an illness which is rife in this country and probably in the US also, it would be good if there wasn't such ignorance of this illness esp by small minded people such as you. Also, Stuart married and American (he may still be alive if he hadn't). I would also like to know what your comment about a 'christian right statement' means
LowOIL - what absolute crap, get your facts right. Stuart was dry when this song was released in 1991 and had been for 6 years and was sober for a further 6 years. He was married too at this time. He did not have a political hate for Americans, the song is satirical based on PJ O'Rourkes book of the same name, a writer he loved but didnt share his views. Along with the rest of your wrong statements i ask you to clarify "coupled with a Christian right statement".
Great vid, I am learning so much about BC talent base, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, imho. Stayalive378 you have a hand in that too. Thanks for all of your vids!

The first 3 Big Country albums are magnificent!!
I can't say the same for the rest of their stuff.

Sorry there LowOIL, I'm a Republican and I like all of BC's music.
They didn't alienate me. Not all of us "right-wingers" are the same.
;)
