The most important thing here is that we agree that this is NOT Callanetics.
Callanetics is all about working with a relaxed body and there is no active muscle contraction when working out.
There are some scary youtube clips out there claiming to demonstrate the Callanetics method. It's important that we continue posting when we come across something that obviously isn't Callanetics. Safety of our students is primary at all times and we also must protect the name.
The Callanetics method NEVER encourages you to tighten the lower back muscles. The only muscle group that gets involved if correctly engaging the pelvic floor muscles is the lower abs - even the large butt muscles and hips should be relaxed.
I agree, this is NOT Callanetics but an essential tilt of the hips when 'preparing' for certain exercises within the Lotte Berk system and methods derived there from.....

Expert Village, please remove this video. It has nothing to do with callanetics. The information is wrong.
I will forward this Youtube clip to callanetics head office within the next week, if it hasn't been removed.
