These AI wannabes don't just come off the street & then audition for the judges. They first go through screeners who make the decision as to their singing chops or entertainment value. I've heard they must then sign an agreement that they won't sue for any negativity directed towards them. Then on to the judges. The producers probably had this guy pegged as a loser with entertainment value. They must have convinced him he had a chance to get him to cooperate in the filmed segments.
