Bob i was born by the river, by the river of tears, born lovin, lovin u dear, i feel, more love, than i ever known, lovin u only in my heart and soul.
@theguiltyundertaker Thanks for the info! Dylan has had some iconiclly talented guitar players in his Bands! If you had to pick the best who would you choose. It's hard to pick just one. Santana comes to mind, but he was just on a couple of tours. I wish Bob would put this on a CD & sing the verses a second time because I can't get enough of this song. Maybe partly due to longtime fan & partly God know we need a change ASAP!
That excellent blues singer-esque growl really works for him. You believe him when he sings,he sounds like he's lived hard. Best version of this song in my opinion.
@muclesmarinara yeah but cooke has way more soul into it, especially what he was going thru at the time no comparison to the original sam has a more powerful voice
@RayMagic12192 You cant compare apples and oranges. Sam is known for his great smooth voice. Bob Dylan has never had a nice tone of voice. Bob put tons of emotion and feel into this performance. When he sings it,you can tell he has had some hard times too.
@RayMagic12192 Come on man! Don't bring race into it! White people have problems too. Bob Dylan marched with Dr.King and sang before one of his speeches. Dylan campaigned to get wrongly imprisoned Boxer Reuben Carter out of jail.
@muclesmarinara same cooke wrote this song from his experiences with racism dude and could not even use the same water fountain dude wtf are you talking about i respect bob dylan for his bravery but he has no idea how it felt to be black during that time unless it was hell for sam and other black artists i never said dylan was a racist so i know and respect him his song blowing in the wind is amazing i know about all that i',m saying you can hear the emotion of what sam went thru in the song
@RayMagic12192 True that Sam and many great black artists went through hell but also remember that Dylan is Jewish and the Jews have been hated and persecuted constantly.
Bob Dylan did a GREAT job singing this song. I haven't many of his songs. The ones I heard is okay. But I love the way he sang this song. He honored Sam Cooke and the 70th anniversary of the Apollo theater.
I am SPEECHLESS! I am so excited I found this & so disappointed I missed this show! Wow, your right this song has really come full circle & Bob seems so happy to be there singing Sam Cooke's song. 70 yrs of the Apollo & Dylan just turned 70. This wonderful man never ceases to amaze me. It's like God just places or directs him. What a soulfull performance! Love you, Bob. Your much more than a "Song & Dance Man" your brilliant, Bob. Thanks for the timeless music!
A beautiful beautiful performance by Bob Dylan, sung soulfully and magnificently. "It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die." Perfect lines for Bob's passion and for his heart-felt voice. A wonder of wonders!
this is so beautiful i love that voice

I see Tony Garnier here with Dylan, but who are the other band members? Tony is almost always with Bob. That's definitely not Charlie Sexton.
This song was made for Dylan to sing. So soulful!

@ohiodixiechick2 I just noticed how serious Dylan is after his performance. Maybe just feeling very humbled & honored to perform at the Apollo?
ohiodixiechick2 3 months ago
@ohiodixiechick2
That's definitely Larry Campbell on guitar, so I imagine it's his full 2004 band:
Larry Campbell - guitar
Freddy Koella - guitar
Tony Garnier - bass
George Recile - drums

Despite Bob's damaged voice, he can still deliver the goods when he puts effort into it. Like here.
