  • Wow, she is so awesome. Thats all I got for words at the moment.

  • "Just love them, and if they blow their brains out, continue to love them. This is the game." That bit made me burst in to tears! T_T

  • Gotta love her :-)

  • The first time I saw Kate Mulgrew was 9 yrs ago at a UK convention. People were asking her questions via microphone. Then there was a very young disabled girl in the audience and Kate couldnt see her from where she was sitting and for some reason we couldnt hear what the girl was saying. Kate invited the girl to join her on stage to ask her question. The girl accepted and Kate walked into the audience, wheeled the girl to join her and returned her to the audience. A very touching moment.

  • @tausti A moment I will never forget. Kate Mulgrew is awesome!

  • "to exercise the right to love at all times" Love someone and you sometime may feel suicidal, too, especially if he or her doesn't love you back, but well you love and to spread LOVE is all we need! Amen! I love her, too!

  • she sounds like shes going to cry :(

  • She is such a wonderful public speaker. I went to her panels at Dragoncon and was just in awe. She has a very compelling presence and just kind of draws you right in.

  • Shirley Phelps must have registered the 1 dislike vote. Catholic, atheist, religious, no matter who you are, how the hell can you dislike this?????????????? Kate Mulgrew is freaking awesome!

  • I thought I was going to be disappointed with this answer. I was not.

  • I am in awe of this woman.

  • I was surprised how suddenly her answer became a good one. This is the first I've seen her as herself - for a second there I was expecting that disillusioned feeling you get when you find out an actor who played a character you love is an idiot. Instead I grew a real respect for Kate Mulgrew just now.

  • fantastic . love her!

  • Kate Mulgrew is beyond stunning.

  • "Aren't you glad you asked? Thanks"

  • good stuff :)

  • respect

  • What an incredibly thoughtful and deep answer to a very difficult question. I admire her authenticity and willingness to share her soul. Beautiful inside and out.

  • I adore this lady. Why did her character have to be an omnicidal maniac? Kate Mulgrew should have been the Captain, not Janeway!

  • Thx, Captain!

  • I entirely agree.

  • Kate is a beautiful woman. My dream is to one day work with her. Amazing.

  • unforgettable...

  • Wow.......... now here I am wiping tears. I've been through my fair share of pains and battles w/ suicide.......... I just think it's great that she can speak like that to a whole crowed. Its hard enough to post a comment on YouTube about suicide! (for me anyway.) This is just amazing. I love Kate.

  • ...wow. I'm a bit speechless. I just... wow.

  • Wow! Powerful. Honest. Good for her. I mean the question was, I think, meant to be kind of a sideways criticism of her, as an Irish Catholic, participating in the episode Death Wish. But instead she redirected the question away from herself and to people who may be suffering such great despair. And pushed for the Golden Rule, to Love One Another As I Have Loved You. Good for you, Kate Mulgrew.

  • shes like the perfect mother role...

what lovely charming down to earth women...wish more...women were like her..

  • I had to oppportunity to work off-duty(Police) during one of kate's conventions in San Francisco many years ago. She is the most charming, beautiful and witty women I've ever met, she is engaging and open. Not to much "she doesnt like spicey chinese food"..lol But I hope she continues to do more on-screen work.

  • the ppl who love this woman like I do are always ..I can't explain it.. but, understanding, so I decided not to be embarrassed and post my little experience. LOL ok sorry, that was really corny, I know..but somehow I just know that fellow viewers of Kate would understand what I felt.

  • One of the best thing about viewing these videos about Kate (and often of Voyager) is that I always feel like I'm among friends. When she said that, before the audience started applauding, a tear sprung to my eyes and I spontaneously started clapping (literally, physically). (This subject is extremely personal to me). Then I felt incredibly stupid, and then I realized that

  • @ammarios Don't worry, I was clapping and crying, too. You are among friends.

  • @Mayaan007 thanks :) I'm so glad to know that there are others out there who ..think this way... I always felt alone in such a big cold world..but it's AMAZING how much better I feel just knowing there are others.... And as child-like as it sounds, I often enjoy watching Voyager on youtube more than on DVD because I feel like I'm watching it (through the comments) with others who have a similar way of thinking and won't think my comments are "corny"..etc :-)

  • @ammarios I think that's what bring us "Trekkies" together. Star Trek attracts intelligent, like-minded people who are inspired by Voyager's visions of diversity, cooperation, and a brighter future. The shows sometimes tackle tough subjects, and we are inspired as we watch how the characters cope with things we can identify with personally. Nothing corny about that! Kate Mulgrew is very wise, and I feel there's some hope for the world after listening to folks like her speak, Tis a good thing ;)

  • Beautiful!

  • Absolutely wonderful person. Amazing!

  • damn shes awsome where was she when I wanted to commit suicide lol

  • Kate Mulgrew's picture is now next to the entry for "awesome" in the dictionary.

  • i love that answer. though it can still be difficult to accomplish, it is certainly within our reach.

  • lol wth people, just b/c she lectured harry kim about std's doesn't mean you can go to her at some convention or something and come up with the most random questions about whatever thoughts you have. she's an actress who played a star trek captain, not some ethical/political/religious advisor.

  • @hardr0ck but what a good message

  • @hardr0ck You're right, and yet -- I would imagine she probably gets tired of the "same old questions" again and again. If someone wants to go off the beaten path, why not? If it's something she's not comfortable talking about, she can always sidestep the question diplomatically. She's obviously a deep thinker and is willing to speak her mind. Admirable qualities. Whatever "advice" she dispenses, it's up to the recipient to evaluate it within their own ethical/political/religious beliefs.

  • @quietbynature

i never said someone shouldnt ask a question outside of "star trek". my point was they asked her a question on a subject on which she is no more qualified to speak on than they are. If she was even half responsible, she would've just said the subject isn't something they ought to discuss, since it's a star trek event, not a political one. Nobody would argue with that.

"deep thinker" and "mind speaker" are not admirable qualities. you could describe Hitler with those traits.

  • @hardr0ck Someone does not need to be "qualified" to share their personal opinion when asked for it. Nor would I consider a question regarding suicide to be a political issue any more or less than a Star Trek one. As for saying that being a deep thinker or having a willingness to speak one's mind are NOT admirable qualities -- do you prefer people without those traits? I, personally, did not find the question or its answer inappropriate, but can certainly respect your right to your opinion.

  • @quietbynature my mistake, i didn't mean to say political.

nonetheless, my point isn't that she was unqualified, my point is she's being asked as though she were MORE qualified than anyone else there, which she's not. Having said that, just because she's asked, she's still responsible for what she says, and she's smart enough to know what's irresponsible.

and i never said I DON'T appreciate those traits. i meant, if you want admirable qualities, maybe you should look more to mother teresa.

  • @hardr0ck I don't think the questioner implied Kate Mulgrew was more qualified, but perhaps was exploring how someone with clear religious beliefs (you don't have a nun as your spiritual director for 38 years otherwise!) could justify acting in an episode which appeared to undermine some of the teachings her church holds. I don't think she tried to give an answer as an 'expert', which is why she said 'I'm going to side step'. Her answer was humane, honest and helpful.

  • this was lovely thanks for posting, my friend commited suicide after she lost her son, and I completly agree..all you can do is love no matter what.

  • I have bi-polor and have tried to kill myself. Its wierd to hear some1 like Kate Mulgrew talking about suicide. I find comfort in what she says, dont ask me why because I dont. Im moved to tears and at the part where she says "and if they blow their brains out, continue to love" The world should take a leaf out of her book.

THANK YOU TO KATE AND FOR POSTING THIS.

  • Wow, how inspirational.

  • Wow, I've lost friends to suicide and I've never heard anyone talk about it so well, I'm not even a fan, but that brought a tear to my eye.

  • Whoa... Kate Mulgrew's kinda awesome.

  • Kinda extremely awesome.

  • @Revolos55

    "Kinda" awesome?

  • Omg I love Kate Mulgrew all over again.

I'm so sad I missed this panel *cries*

    ~Dreamsavvy~
