  • haha. this reminds me of the epic "battle for dominancy" that went on in my tank. it was mango (nice fish) vs trout (who was a real asshole) naturally i was rooting for mango. the fight went on for a few days. By the time it was over, mango had won. He had a little scale damage but otherwise he was perfectly fine. trout, on the other hand, was a bit worse for the wear. he had a huge bruise under his chin and scale damage. he hid for a few days, then never bothered mango again.

  • the blue one is a Maylandia lombardoi

  • I had African Cichlids years ago and I loved them (I've had fish all my life). One thing that I found very interesting was that I had these two fish that would get right on each other's butts (To where it would look like they were one fish) and then one would turn and the other would turn too and do these crazy circles in place all day! Just like how a dog would chase his tail. I found it very odd. Was this a way of fighting? I don't know. I just got a bunch of cichlids again and they're great!

  • Haha. My cichlid was a serial killer. I had to put it in a disgusting tank with a weird filmy thing on it. I put it back in my regular tank a month later and it never killed any of my fish again

  • i dont like how they fight it looks like they are kissing...

  • Whoever thinks they r breeding ur a dumbass they first of all aren't the same species I know cichlids some times cross breed but they are lip locking wich most cichlids use to show who's more dominant kinda like saying "u is my bich!" I know I spelled bitch wrong

  • Looks like someone's jealous. lol

  • guys its not about father or husband, its the BIGGEST cichlid in the tank who breaks up the fights. theyre kinda like "if anyone fights here its me"

  • When I added my second blue zebra yesterday they both immedietly started locking mouths like this. I have two blue zebras, an albino zebra, a yellow lab, and an auratus cichlid and they are all about an inch long so I guess they are still babies kinda. I have them in a 20 gallon which I am upgrading to a 55 gallon in a few weeks and adding maybe 15 or 20 more cichlids(assorted african cichlids from petsmart)

  • the big brother is proctecting his little bro xD

  • kissy kissy

  • what type of fish is the bigger one?

  • Ahaha! The big one's always trying to break up the fight

  • Sooooo coooool dude

  • @xxbeatlesfan BRO thats way too many fish for a 55. What species did you have? and how did you set it up?

  • @purgatorypestilence not really its okay to overstock with african cichlids cuz they dont really grow that big unlike south american cichlids and the more fish the less fighting because if a fish is chasing another fish the one being chased can easily disapper in the crowd oh and his fish are only 1 inch thats not that big

  • @pinnlol how cum U FUCKERS DONT WRITE ENGLISH. I LOVE CICHLIDS BUT U FUCKERS TOTALLY SUCKETYH./

  • @MrLino50 i did write english?

  • they are not fighting they are breeding

  • i love the big guy

  • Love how that big fish keeps breaking it up ;)

  • what type of cichlid is the fish at 1:03? i take it he is the boss

  • lol it's not a cichlid fight there actually mating when they spin in circles and start to kiss! Thats right there kissing not fighting if u want to know more about cichlids check out my channel and ask or inbox me also please subscribe and like my videos!

  • LOL i like how every all this fighting is going on and then you see the lil' yellow fish just chilin in the rock XD Pause at 0:10 to see it clearly XD

  • @ICONicBoyzfan231 they might have eggs, and the male is being extra aggressive trying to protect his territory.

  • @copperchan Oh lol i don't know alot about Cichlids but they really are cool fish ;) I like that big blue one that keeps trying to break it up. I know alot about coldwater fish and reptiles :)

  • @ICONicBoyzfan231 I've had South/Central American cichlids for almost 10 years, so I know a lot about those. I don't know the African cichlids very well so it's just a educated guess :D

  • @copperchan :D I'm sososo excited...i'm FINALLY getting a snake of my own for my birthday! I've cared for my friend's snake before while he was on vacation but for my birthday this august, i'm getting my own Pueblan Milk Snake!!! Anyway, Back to Cichlids, They are really cool fish and i hope to get one, someday :)

  • I have a blue zebra just like hat one it killed all of the other cichlids

  • "You killed Kenyi!!! You bastards!!!"

  • nice one

  • makin out

  • I bought 2 red zebras, 2 of the blue stripped ones, and 2 yellow labs. I went on a long trip, set up the feeder, came back, and all but one zebra was alive and he was panting at the top of the tank. low ammonia and nitrates as well. What happened (yes i purify my water)

  • the big blue one is a red top icy blue zebra cichlid

  • 0:05 "Get away from my wife!"

  • is that big one an oscar???

  • At 0:06, what is that fish called? I want one sooooooo bad but i don't know the name. Please reply ASAP. Thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • @PupuTheClown theyre not gay man

  • @T1nn3r no the big blue one looks like ....something afra or the common name is white top and the small blue one is a kenyi .. not realated

  • those other fish are like, aww damn aye yo check this out.

  • dude this is not fighting this is call kissing.. lol

  • crazy, my jack dempsey and convict only did this for a day. now they are best of friends haha

  • What species is the big guy?

  • gawd dam africans!,... they can never get along... ahahah lol!...

  • there having fish sex!

  • @T1nn3r no relation

  • that big one looks like a maylandia greshakei

  • Would be funny if humans fight like that. Between a male and a female that is.

  • I don't think the big one was trying to break them up.

It was quite clear that the big guy was helping the blue one. Since he only chase the orange one away.

  • awww their just kissing... how cute, they should name em french cichlids :)

  • @futerflash2

That is NOT kissing, it sure does look like it though. But that is how cichlids fight. I saw some at the store the other day doing this, but a bit more violent.

  • Lol, the big blue one kept coming back like "HEY! I SAID BREAK IT UP!!"

  • i just bought some and they are ganging up on one by biting his tail fin off...and they keep him on one side of the tank. i fear they are going to kill him.

  • @grethomory If hospital tank to put him in you should. Just take him out of the tank he is in and put him in there. Let him get his confidence back, add a few more african cichlids, and then try to put him back in the tank

  • @AugustousKing thanks for your suggestions...they are doing alot better now.

  • Respond to this video... they are doing much better now. Thanks so much

  • @grethomory You can totally re-arrange the tank decorations. It will confuse them and they will have to re-establish their territories.

  • this is good for the ciclids. it puts color in them i got 2 125 gallon ciclid tank 2 55 gallon tank and another 125 they fight all the time. if u want them to stop fighting tho put more cover in the tank rocks and planted areas

  • ha that ice blue is the boss of the tank

  • thats fighting then me and my girlfriend fight everyday(: haha

  • Comment removed

  • Their kissing <3 xxxxxx

  • i used to have a red zebra there badass. urs looks nice n the ice blue is a beast:]

    check out my vids

  • Yea I have the same two aswell and they go at it quite a bit.... So maybe it's like a racial thing... The blue stripes vs orange lol

  • cool video. You should try and add some 'fightin' music to it

    `~A~

  • I got the same two fish and all they do is fight with eachother like that.

  • i have a blood parrot and a firemouth in a 55 what would be a good tank mate for them?

  • chichlids are GANGSTERS FISH!

  • what is that blue and yellow cichlid that come in at 0:12?

  • that is an acei they have a very elegant purple color that looks like blue from far away

  • i like the big fish. Reminds me of my green terror, the sheriff of my tank.

  • I think the fish you are referring to is called a greshakei .

  • What is that fish that appears in front of the fight at 0:50. I have one and I've been trying to figure out what it is. I thought it was an ice blue, but I saw another video with an ice blue and it doesn't resemble mine. This one totally looks like mine. If you could tell me what it is, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Too bad I could never have a Kenyi in my fish tank. I wouldn't want to risk their aggressive behavior on my fish.

  • lo at 0:20 dramatic cichlid!

  • lol sumo wreseler come to break fight

  • weird, my dominant male auratus jumps in the middle of fights to break it up in my tank also

  • I've always thought it was just male kenyis that were aggressive!

  • They're where not fighting! they're where mating.

  • they are different species why would they mate plus they both females..

  • your boss isnt good thats why you have fish fights..

  • how big is your tank?

  • My electric yellow juveniles have been fighting. They'll chase each other around in a circle for several minutes until one gets tired.

  • thats just how they are... a bigger tank and or more hiding place should help a lot :)

  • lol

  • kick its ass kenyi

  • hahah thats wicked size does not matter with malawis if your a hard fish your a hard fish lol

  • not the kennyi the one next to it

  • is that big fish at 0:52 a dogtooth cichlid?

  • I mean he tried to lol!

  • lol at the end the big cichlid breaks them apart!

  • Kennyi's will fight anybody....luckily they stay small

Glad to see THE BOSS step in !.

  • kenyis where THE most aggressive african i have ever owned...the zebra doesn't stand a chance HAHA

  • Love your greshakei male breaking it up, my oscar does the same whenever my greshakei female try to fight

  • rofl it looks like they are kissing but they are fighting!

  • there makin out lol

  • was the big fish also a kenyi?

  • How cool was that the big fish was helping his fellow fish dmn :D.

    Great video thanks!

  • LOL

  • thaaahhh how cute there kissing! ^_^ LOL!

  • had a female kenyi, got rid of her.

WAY to aggressive for my other fish, they never came out of hiding.

  • I'm 100% sure they are not mating. that is not the mating ritual they are lip locking aka fighting. and both are females.

  • pretty fish

  • Whats the big white fish?

    Its pretty cool lookin

  • thank the big whiteish striped fish a n the beging

  • what if humans fought like that??? haha just kidding. that was pretty interesting that the large one was obviously, clearly trying to stop the fight. i put a labidochromis caeruleus in with my tropheus duboisi and brichardis, they fought for a while but are calming down now.

  • Comment removed

  • Would a male kenyi be ok to keep with one male red zebra, female red zebra, and 3 male yellow labs, and 6 female yellow labs?

  • I had the same two fish before they fought like this to with no interuptions plus my red zebra won because it got bigger out of no where... So which one won?

  • the big one is after the red zebra

  • This isnt very good I have both fish that are fighting. A Kenyi, and a Red Zebra. I hope they dont fight like these too.

  • its not so much funny as it is sad. maybe u should consider keeping your fish better fed so they dont fight. i have 6 cichlids in a small 20gal tank and ive NEVER had that problem.

  • its not cus there hungry its a fight over territory or for a spot in the pecking order my old kribs did it once when i introduced them and then they just stayed away from each other.

  • lol big fish

  • Thanks for capturing this and sharing. Funny stuff, particularly your big one trying to butt in with no luck.

  • My female Dempsey would stop the fights between my albino red zebra and one of my blue african cichlids. My jack is a sweety.

  • It's not fair. This big blue fish is helping little blue fish.

  • Just an update on m other comment now my convicts has beaten up the other one and the electric blue is actually a red top ice blue cichlid and im going to add a red zebra cichlid because there awesome

  • mine were doing that today... now one is almost dead :(

  • How old is that Ice blue red top? I have one that just survived a blackout but he isn't that big..

  • That big fish is like a bouncer

  • I have to male convicts that sometimes go at it then my big Electric blue hap breaks it up then he goes back to his territory... He dominates my tank check out my video of them and my tank set up i would love tips or ideas.

  • I am the owner of tx Holey rocks web site. I like Mbuna's cause always one fish seems to break it up. Not likely does it get out of hand because of this. It's like a little police action.

  • Im sorry my friend but you are wrong. This "mouth fighting" is pre mating. you know, like seeing if one another is worthy of spawning. Take it from me, i have been breeding cichlids for 9 years.

  • Not true with mbuna. "Mouth fighting" is an integral part of combat with this group of fish. Nothing like the pre-spawning jaw locking you see with some new world types (dempseys, severums for example).

  • breeding cichlids for 9 years? are you sure it wasn't 9 seconds? these are 2 males kid. the day that 2 males can successfully produce offspring is the day you'll be president.

  • umm kid. the red zebra is a female. male red zebras are bluish with stripes, females are orange w/o stripes.

  • ummm ching ling. not all red zebras are females. get your shit straight doof. lol.

  • the big blue one is a pacifist???

  • That's a pretty small tank for such gorgeous cichlids.

  • i don't see your tank

  • lol nice

  • beautiful fish

  • Just to let you know this is not fighting. This behaviour usualy takes place prior to breeding. its more like a mating dance. If they were fighting the fish would be bighting at the fins, and belly. there would be some major damage when it was all over.

  • no this is fighting. they are two different species, and both males. its called mouthfihgting, and is usually over territories. its like the next step up from the circling and attacking fights.

  • the cichlid fight vid you said they were going to mate no in the wild thats what hey do prior to a fight for territory they match up there mouths if there the same size they fight

  • red zebra? I have a fish like that but he is like a mizture of a few types.

  • a blue zebra i have one to.

  • hey, what is that big fish at 57seconds because i got 1 exactly like it and im not 2 sure what it is, ty

  • those red zebras are mean. As soon as they were in the bags from the petstore mines started fighting eachother. cool fish though and I love that ice blue zebra

  • i cichlid started fighting my betta fish and the cichlid died.

  • Over stocking Malawi cichlids actually helps lower the aggression in a species tank. But most malawi are just mean as fuck anyway. Just about anyone with enough time and experience with african cichlids knows that fighting is inevitable and you stand to loose a few.

  • i think there spawning herd thet the blue red zebras are males and some have stripes.

  • Na, Ren thats a Red Zebra and Kenyi fighting.

  • nice tank. funny fish

  • how ironic i got a venustus and a kenyi that fight, and the greshakei always breaks it up lol ill post it

  • That greshakei is sweet. I love how the top fish always breaks up fights in mbuna tanks.

  • i have that happen in my ca cichlid tank only it makes me mad cus the jaguar cichlid breaks up all the good fights

  • thats funny how the albino cichlid tries to get into it too

  • wow thats nice, i also have a red zebra and kenyi....how old and how big are yours? also how big is ur tank? thanks again

  • They were probably about 3 inches when this video was shot. Now the red zebra has outgrew the kenyi to be about 4 inches and the kenyi is about 3 and half. The tank is 36 gallon.

  • hey calwhiz, what air pump do u use? thanks

  • Good capture! Your greshakei is a beautiful beast ;-)!

  • *laugh* he is! he bullies everybody.

  • cool

  • Silly fish heads... good show though. What is the bigger fish it's really attractive.

  • It's an ice blue zebra, Metriaclima greshakei.
