  • to me the bass and tenors seem a bit... dead don't you think?? Not that much energy being put into it...

  • Actually its an early D.

  • LOLS early E

  • Ouch! What a shame! :/

  • Wow. amazing performance save that E. Its neat watching this vid because ive been taught by 3 of the pipers here on separate occasions. They all look so young here ahaha. Man i wish these guys were still around.

  • totally agree!! :-)

  • They are, they are operational in Westgarth in Melbourne (Australia)

  • Ausgent, cheers but i meant as a comp band. I have seen them as a police community band a few times.

  • Oooooooooooh early E!

    Ouch

  • early chanter!!!!!!!!! you guys lost it there :(

  • is that Albie copeland playing bass??

  • @bassdrummer91

    No that Andrew Russell

  • i heard sum 1's chanter cut out at 5:28

  • I will have a look for you - my uncle is Nat Russell so want to see it again myself! Say hi to your Dad for me, havent seen him in a while

  • Does anybody have the video of 1998? My father played as lead drummer when they won the Worlds (Grad One) in '98, so I'm kinda anxious to see a video of it.

  • Comment removed

  • you clearly are not

  • Actually I am.

  • righto pal, name then?

  • Adam. Madax backwards without the 'X'.

  • early chanter!!

  • ouch yeah i heard that. That would have killed them

  • J.K.Lang is a cracking tune!

  • is there any of these guys playing megalomania?

  • Greatest band ever, Craig Irvine is a legend to. As for the comment about Nat, thats rubbish. After winning in '98 after they should have won it in '97 there was a change of commisioner in the Victoria Polica and the band were not allowed to play outside of Australia. Hence they haven't been allowed to play in the worlds again. A lot of the top guys moved to other bands or helped teach other bands. Anyone who was at that concert on the wednesday night before the worlds in '98 will know that

  • Craig Irvine's dad Bob is also a legend, a piper though.

  • Such a loss to the Worlds not having the Vic Police there, an event such as the Worlds was my one and only chance in a season to see what was once one of my favourite outfits.

  • I play "Match" and am more comfortable that way because I grew up playing that way. I can also play "Traditional" but not as comfortably, and after getting my charts down, practice that way for the visual with the rest the section.

  • ouch! I bet that early chanter hurt their score

  • The 'leftie' drummer in question is Craig Irvive, a Kiwi, who moved over and played with VicPol for many years. In my time teaching I let my drummers play as they were naturally inclined. I have had a left-hander and also matched grip players. These days with drum carriers as opposed to slings, the drum head is essentially central to the body and flat, so grip makes no difference as long as the player is technically competent... Craig is certainly that!

  • I find it harder to play a lot of snare parts in match grip. Traditional, as everyone says, also looks so much cooler. Maybe I just don't use matched as much but I also find it a lot easier to use match grip on drum kit rather than trad. Why is this??? I think it's the weird angles of the toms.

  • is murray blair playing in this video?

  • Is it my imagination, or is the side player on the end playing traditional with his Right hand? At first I thought of the revers view scenario, but then noticed the player next to him is playing traditional grip with his left hand. Interesting.

  • yeah i noticed that too... weird.

  • its called a "match Grip" mostly used in drum kit playing!

  • he's not playing matched. it's definitely a reverse version of traditional. the right hand is holding the stick the way the left should hold it in traditional. A lot of people still play traditional on kit as well btw.

  • mmm woops. yes i agree. i din take any notice of hir gight hand. my bad

  • Too bad about the early chanter. would like to hear more of this band

  • No matter what anyone says, VPPB is still my all time fave bands.

  • Great Set. Really Awesome. Click on my name to hear Chanter's tune on the Clarsach. Thanks for the tune ideas Lads!

  • Brilliant band. It's a shame that now they have degraded to a grade 3 band. There was a scandle after their winning of the championships, and they have never been as good since. I see them every year on ANZAC Day.

  • what did Natt R run off with the cash?

  • Please, please, please upload some more Victoria Police, if you have any. They are one of my favorite bands ever.

  • best ever!!!!

  • Glimpses of greatness... their performances still hold up to today's top standards!

  • too bad they didn't have a very good attack.

  • bring back the best!
