@GermanLandser1: Viele dieser bereits älteren Mods sind von der nicht mehr bestehenden Seite "AllAircraftArcade", heutzutage ist "SAS" die beste Anlaufstelle bezüglich Mods. Gib einfach "il-2 sas" in google ein, dann sollte es bereits an erster Stelle erscheinen!

Btw, I'm looking for an IL 2 clan/guild/squadron/whatever you want to call it. I have played the hell out of this game over the last year or so and the AI + missions have only been able to entertain me lightly.

So, I think I could get even more fun out of the game by competing with real players against real players.

@1996joshi: Im Spieleverzeichnis gibt es einen Ordner PaintSchemes/Skins/, dort sind versch. Unterordner entsprechend den unterschiedlichen Flugzeugen untergebracht. In diesen wiederum findet man sogenannte "Void" Skins die man als Vorlage verwenden kann

Ok, now I have the game and love it!!!! Now Would someone please tell me what all this "MOD" stuff is? I know it gives you more planes, missions, etc. but what version and is it a free or payware download? Most importantly, where do you get these mods? I have seen a few different names out there...pro packs, HSFX 4.1 etc. It is all very confusing. Please help, thanks.

@chrysanthos66: Before patching to any of the official game versions it is absolutely necessary to have all kinds of mods disabled, otherwise the game might crash or not start at all!

Mind you that now with the new 4.10 patch nightfighting is not at all as easy as is shown in the video! Nights are now much much darker and even with cockpit lights on you can BARELY read the instruments but the rest of the cockpit and the landscape is pretty much invisible!

Then there's also the mods for IL-2 1946 which will give you about 50% more content on top of that ;)

@halonsox - default keys to increase/decrease FOV are "DEL", "PGUP" and "PGDN".

BTW, in controls menu U can set your own field of view keys.

@Trcrprkns: Well if we are talking about the same game (made by/for the History Channel) then I couldnt disagree more. It's just as "historical" as any other arcade titel such as Blazing Angels or Secret Weapons over Normandy...

It's historical as far as it is set in WW2 but that' as historical as it gets!

@PaTr0nu: There are no unlockable planes in this simulation, you have access to all of them from the start. I think you are confusing "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" with "IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey (Console) or Wings of Prey (PC)"

However there are mods for the old PC version (1946) which add more maps, aircraft, objects, ... to the sim.

@AlmightyJesus: I'm using an X-52 HOTAS joystick setup, works very well with IL-2!

Never ever use the keyboard with any serious flight simulation, it just doesnt give you the kind of control a joystick does. Remember:

When using keyboard keys for elevator/aileron/rudder inputs there are only 2 states: fully deflected (when pushing the key) or neutral position.

With a joystick you have smooth transitions between these two extremes

No you cannot use mods with Pacific Fighters as standalone, these are only available for IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 which is the currently flown version and has all parts of the series in one game

The Me262 is a standard flyable, at least if you have IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, dont know since when the Me262 is flyable but I think its been there ever since Forgotten Battles

But there is a AAA mod for this game where you get planes from Il2 1946.

You dont need Forgotten Battles, just buy 1946!

That one is all-in-one, it has the old IL-2, Forgotten Battles, the Ace Expansion, Pacific Fighters, the Pe-2/3, Sturmoviks over Manchuria and 1946 addons all in one game. This is the versions thats being played online.
