  • Great job! Really? Talking about no woodwinds? It is not uncommon for a military band to use a "cut down" or ceremonial band. When a venue can not support a full band, a group will use the minimum amount of musicians to perform a piece of music properly.

Anyone that questions the marksmanship of military bandsman should stand 300m away from me and I'll answer that question for them.

  • In the burial ground? Can't the deads have some peace?

  • @dasteufelhund The dead were probably all at attention and saluting.

  • a fine rendition of our national anthem - i especially like this version at the sousa gravesite - happy birthday and god bless john philip! - thanks carl

  • I'm playing this in 2 days

  • well, brass=military kinda so it makes sense for it to be mostly all brass instruments :-) some of these start spangled banner band videos sound very "legato"

  • guess in this. there arent woodwinds. it kinda makes sense w/ these guys

  • Jesus...all i hear is the damn snare.

  • D'oh!!! Mia Culpa!!!

Must have been the Glenlivet talking... of course BANDS have woodwinds... at least the Purdue University All-American Marching Band did when I was in it from 1969-73.

    "Bands" do not have STRINGS....

  • "Bands" do not have woodwinds. Orchestras have woodwind and string sections.

  • @lmo1131 wrong. Bands do have Woodwinds.

  • @lmo1131

Sorry sir, Bands do have woodwinds, think of the great piccolo countermelody in "The Stars And Stripes Forever" in the original arrangement by J.P. Sousa (who directed the Marine Band).

As a retired band director I will state that bands do have woodwinds.

  • @lmo1131 You are mistaken Good Sir BANDS do have Woodwinds.

  • There's one phrase all people should learn before speaking about my Marines. Every Marine is a rifleman, no matter what MOS or job they choose. I will not show any disdain towards you emugsymeg, but I request that you refrain from showing disrespect to the men and women choosing enlistment/officer training to be part of the most powerful fighting force on this Earth. And for our prestigious bands, they put in extra effort to show the perfection required to play as The President's Own. Oorah

  • Maybe they didn't go to training but believe me, being a musician requires a lot of mental and phisical streng. People has to compete agains hundreds of applicants to get one of those jobs (it can be 1: 270). Besides musical training is a nonstop path that takes about at least 10 years of training to be able to get on the audition or application circle. Sorry, english is not my first language. I hope you may consider a different point of view. to emugsymeg

  • @emugsymeg The US Marine Corp Band is THE Hardest Military Band to get into, let alone to make into "The President's Own"

Watch the video of "The Thunderer" and you will see them clearly. It's filmed in the same spot and most likely on the same day.
