  • Yes, "suitable", not "super" !

  • Yes. I don't think there is any way to visually imagine something that is beyond space and time. Our visual imaginations fail us completely !

"so why our image has to be static?"

    An excellent, excellent question !

  • Yes, this is the perfect approach, I think.

  • The gap is very interesting.

Our "self-image", how we appear to ourselves, may be very different than how we appear to others.

  • As far as I can tell:

    The identity is what we identify with. Relationship is built on influence. Images of people are created for security;

and are reenforced and validated by the external environment.. In individual relationships people arent static but move and change through time and experience; Therebye the mental model can never be complete. There will always be a gap in perception based in thought.. Conforming to thought or what is

A person does not remain static,

  • Nice vid Cim, thanks. You fleshed out an aspect of the human condition as I think of it but never quite assembled it. While watching I thought, "he's right, but there's not much we can do about it beyond recognizing it". Recognizing it is good enough.

  • Thanks, owhey.

Recognition is definitely the foundation. From there we could use some sort of methodology for overcoming.

Therein lies the rub! Getting things into practical application.

  • excellent vid Nick!!! I am making a vid on this matter myself I will post it to Maurices vid... check it when u get a chance

  • I'll be sure to, Jason. Am looking forward to it.

  • Religion Messed Up The World.

  • sis!! u gotta point i just uploaded my take on all of this...

  • Cool, Jason!

  • Hey, beloved Cimbolic. I'm trying to wrap my head around this video.

People need a self-identity to feel comfortable? Is that a common problem? Is that why people are hung up on ethnicity, gender, occupation, etc? I've never understood such hangups.

Okay, assuming a "yes" answer, then does a RIGID Identity represent an overweening fear that one has misidentified himself? Or, that if the definition isn't rigid, that one is less 'worthy' in some way?

Thanks for your help, Cimbolic. :)

  • Yes and yes.

We can be very insecure if we have not formed a solid "ego".

    Here's my guess:

But some of what is in our ego is arbitrary. We mistake it for fundamental and even eternal. Then along comes someone different than us. And we start to sense that our identity, or parts of it, are arbitrary and without permanence.

Thus, we strike out at the other.

  • Looks like you've got a serious votebot problem (I just voted 5 stars to all of your videos). You and a couple of other people are the only philosophers on YouTube that are worth watching nowadays. Particularly atheists are too much concentrated on pwning each others than having a descent and intelligent discussion. So keep up the good work, Cimbolic!

  • Thanks very much, Joonas, for the kind words, and for 5 starring all those videos. I appreciate both very much!

  • Please accept 25 thankyous. :)

  • I'm listening to the video right now, I couldn't sleep so I checked my messages. Very good so far to not have a format. It's from the heart. Talk to you later.

  • Had to feel my way through some of the ideas.

    Talk to you soon.

P.S. My volume has been too low lately, but I think I've fixed the problem.

  • I'm speechless right now, and I'll tell you why later. I've got to gather my thoughts before I respond, and update everyone else. 5*

  • You'[ve made me curious.

Muchas gracias for the 5 stars.

Will look forward to your thoughts.

  • No problem, nice way to start us off. I just did a video updating everybody on my weekend agenda. I'll respond to this vid Monday morning. You'll be surprised how what you've said lines up with my thoughts on the recent nationality debates, etc... We're on our way man!

  • I'm looking forward to it, EE.

I did a 2 part response video to both you and Jason. I touch on the unity question you've brought under discussion.

  • I'm not down with monkey milk either.

  • Wolf's milk sounds noble.

But If I had to choose between Orangutang and Chimpanzee, I'd give up milk altogther. :)

  • People have always been afraid of what they don't know. I'm sure as to why, but I think it has something to do with "What if..." (fill in the blank.)

  • Yes! That is another source of fear. A different kind. Different from fear of the similar. I will have to think about to what degree it relates to identity fears, if at all.

    Thanks, philippi.

  • I've been meaning to, Eric.

    Please don't feel slighted.

    I haven't been speaking to anyone !!!

Just consumed in a computer project, missing sleep, working weekends.

Gonna respond to your email now, my friend.

  • what you dun talk to me anymore? Dun answer ma messages?
