I will never forget that day. We heard the wind and looked outside and saw debris swirling and we knew something wasn't right. We ran into our bedroom with the kids and just held each other and prayed. when it passed-the sight in burnett's mill was horrible.
I was on I-95 at the nc/va state line & coundn't see 20 ft ahead, I pulled over at the rest stop there. Thank god I did so, once I made it to Suffolk, I had missed the tornado by 15 minutes! The tornado had just crossed the hwy & huge pine trees were blown across the divided hwy. We had to turn around & go back to Suffolk town...me & my 2 yr old daughter were able to get a room at a seedy hotel for the night, even tho we lived in Virginia Bch. That hotel filled up fast. Got home OK the next day.
I just got the pics I took developed, since I didn't have my digital charged & I keep a disposable in my glove box, I will post them soon. So glad I pulled over when I did.
im sorry i know im not supposed to be laughing but i kept watching the part where he walks up to the window and says "oh shit" like 10 times XD that was too funny
i never forget this day. my mom and little brother were at the school right dwn the street less than half a mile from where the tornado was i'll never forget how scared i was.
I remember we had to all get in the bathtub my brother, me , and mom and put a mattress over the tub I was scared and my mom was crying I honestly thought i was going to die no joke but I'm really lucky and I thank god every day for sparing my life!
It appears that tornadoes are becoming more & more common to the east/northeast part of the country...20 years ago, we may have heared of a "tornado watch" on a rare basis, but now , "tornado warnings" are being issued now more than ever!
It's because of doppler radar that you're getting more warnings than ever. If any rotation is detected on radar, they will issue a warning even though there is no tornado actually on the ground. They give the warning because they would rather be safe than sorry for not issuing a warning. I noticed this in N.C that when they got the doppler radars up, the warnings went up in numbers also, especially on storms that would never have been warned in the past.
@truckintim87 Because of improvements with dopplar radar they now have warnings for rotation in storms. In the past it was just visual identification of a funnel or tornado so I'm doubtful there is a trend toward more tornadoes in the east/northeast or any other area in the country. It's just reported in a differently now.

I didn't see anyone saying that your best friends losing their houses was funny. I'm fairly certain most people's amusement was directed towards the behavior of the man in the video.
I know you didn't. That is because I never stated that they were directing the humor at my friends. I said that they were laughing at the tornado and it's surrounding area. As they are very serious.
WHat do you mean nay tornado in Virginia.I take that offensive cause that was a day that on one will forget.I mean many people in Virginia lost there home in Suffolk.I'm glad my mom got out of CHesterfield and came to pick me up from school to take me and my twin brother home.i was crying really bad.I nearly pass out.I was saying i'm scared to my friend. She was saying it to.I was in fourth grade.lol now i'm in fifth.i have bad memory but i dunt forget stuff liek that

This is a fairly unique video; I have never seen footage where the camera moves up to a window and immediately captures a mature tornado in progress dead ahead. Intense!
This really is not funny..BUT, when he sees the tornado, and then is like "OH @%*!" LOL! I would have had the same reaction. "GET IN DA CLOSET!" LOL looks like the tornado may have been traveling away from his home or at least i pray it did.
wow. that's incredible. great footage, i wish it was longer though.
lmao, it always cracks me up in movies when some kind of danger is headed right towards someone and they stand there. i hope whoever shot this is alive.
That was intense...I read that you're ok, but I was wondering how much damage was there after the tornado. I hope everyone is ok after that nasty looking thing. Neighbors ok?
In response to other comments, I am fine. I live 30 miles from where this was shot, although there was an unconfirmed report of a minor tornado 5 miles from where I live. This video was submitted to WAVY by a viewer. It wasn't on YouTube, so I posted it under the terms of "Fair Use" (copyright law, U.S.C. 17).
I hope you and all your loved ones are ok. My family lives there, on Route 10 and I grew up there til I was 18, and you never think it will happen to you...one of those things that happens elsewhere...
The local meteorologists were originally calling it an (E)F-3, possibly an F-4, but have since suggested that it was probably an F-4. Personally, I think they're just being conservative because they would look foolish if they over-rated it. It's fairly obvious from the damage that it was an F-4. It fully leveled substantial dwellings (aka houses, not just trailers), and by "fully leveled" I mean removed the structure entirely, leaving only the slab. F-3 tornado's *can't* do that. It was an F-4.
Good grief. I hope that guy and his family are okay. I also hope that the damage to his house wasn't bad. It look as if the twister wasn't coming directly towards his house, but one never knows.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Umm...why didn't YOU get in the closet?? Thanks for furthering my research on why people get killed in tornadoes when they have ample warning to save themselves. They'd rather shoot a video for YouTube. Pretty pathetic that you'd risk your life for that.
I missed it because initially your description said nothing of the sort. So I guess those that posted before me who also thought you were the one filming must be stupid failures too? Or maybe you were just trying to claim the video as your own, until you saw how stupid everyone thought you were so you decided to claim it as "fair use". And then poof! Suddenly people don't think it was you filming, just as I would not have, HAD YOU PROVIDED THE PROPER DESCRIPTION UPON INITIAL POSTING.
And I don't expect people to read the description. You however, did, and then made an ass out of yourself by misreading it and making a rude comment about it.
I made a video from the burnetts mill subdivision.

Oh my gosh, it looks like you actually live in the Hillpoint area where it was really bad!

Definitely a "Wedge" tornado. Strong EF3 for sure....a true rare sight here in Virginia.

*looks out front window, sees monster of a tornado* "Oh Shit!" Damn, I'd say the same thing. Thanks for the video.

Good grief. I hope that guy and his family are okay. I also hope that the damage to his house wasn't bad. It look as if the twister wasn't coming directly towards his house, but one never knows.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Umm...why didn't YOU get in the closet?? Thanks for furthering my research on why people get killed in tornadoes when they have ample warning to save themselves. They'd rather shoot a video for YouTube. Pretty pathetic that you'd risk your life for that.

Are you stupid? You obviously read the Fair Use notice. How did you miss that this was a video from WAVY? Use your head. FAIL
danieldeibler 3 years ago
I missed it because initially your description said nothing of the sort. So I guess those that posted before me who also thought you were the one filming must be stupid failures too? Or maybe you were just trying to claim the video as your own, until you saw how stupid everyone thought you were so you decided to claim it as "fair use". And then poof! Suddenly people don't think it was you filming, just as I would not have, HAD YOU PROVIDED THE PROPER DESCRIPTION UPON INITIAL POSTING.
KrystalFrizz 3 years ago
No, the description has never been changed. Stop trying to cover up for being an idiot. You FAIL.
danieldeibler 3 years ago
And I don't expect people to read the description. You however, did, and then made an ass out of yourself by misreading it and making a rude comment about it.
danieldeibler 3 years ago
And you quoted part of the fair use notice in your first post, idiot. Learn how to lie better.

What, exactly, did I quote? I think you are hallucinating.
