great tutorial, not too slow at all. It really helps me when you keep your fingers on the chord and play it over long enough for me to soak it in. Welp, i'm off to check your other tutorials. Thanks.
Dude you're a fucking legend. If I were learning by a tab it would've taken like an hour to get all this but thanks to you I've got this down in a fraction of that. Shame I don't have a thumb pick though lol. I'm using a cut from my bank card celotaped onto my thumb haha.
The tags that don't have to do with this video are the names of other popular Antoine Dufour songs...he did that so when people searched for them they would hopefully find this video. That's not lame, it's smart because a lot of people searching for Antoine's guitar music are guitarists who may be looking to learn some of his music. The other tags have to do with this video.
I'm having trouble with the tuning I put it in and then the chord you show us first. Maybe make a 15 second clip of the tuning then show us the cord, because when I tune with DADGCE then do the chord it sounds quite different from yours.
AHHHH! My Mistake to all who got the first chord wrong. The first note i mentioned was fine, 3rd fret 4th string. But for the 2nd one I got tongue tied, it's 2nd fret 3rd string! Sorrrryy...
kinda a n00b question, but i'm new to altered tunings. is it ok for the neck/stress/tension of the guitar if i leave it in the DADGCE tuning for.. days? since it'll take me a decent amount of time to learn this song.
my guess is that the E tuned down to D will offset the B tuned up to C. is this correct? this tuning doesnt seem to extreme to me, but just wondering if its "healthy" for the guitar.. thanks
Hmm... a few hundred of grams in tension shouldn't be too bad. I leave my guitars in random tunings all the time, they do shift a lil overnight but I just readjust in the morning. I guess if you have a cheap guitar like me you don't have to worry about it.
Excellent, did you figure all this out yourself or have you had lessons with Antoine? I understand he does workshops sometimes. Also, doesn't it hurt your fingers when you damp the strings with your closed right hand like that?
Yea just eyes and ears, plan to keep it that way :P but it would be nice to play with him. You mean string slaps with the knuckles? Skin gets use to it over time. :P
Ahh yes, skin slaps is that what they are called. I've often seen Joni Mitchell use that technique, she must be a tough old bird, it gives me whitlows. Guess I'll have to keep at it. Thanks for explaining things so well here.
Erm.. tune it up heh, nice and slowly so that the string can adjust to tension, at first I thought you were talking about 5th string for like Rylynn or Keys to the Hover car. Then you would have to tune VERY carefully. Yea just don't do any jerky sudden turns.
But when i try and tune the string, it jumps from a B to a D --- am i supposed to tighten the string or lower it? I cant find this "C" tuning no matter how hard i try, maybe its my tuner?
your tuner can probably only detect EADGB i'm guessing. if you can make the tuner flat with a button, press that twice then tune it to D according to the tuner, then that should be C
Thanks for the tutorial! I found your old "semi" tutorial on Development and came back a few weeks ago to learn the song... only to find you took it down. Very pleased to see you made another. Seven thumbs up.
Thanks a lot for doing all of these tutorials. I've watched and learned every song you've done a tutorial on and I feel like I have grown better as a guitarist because of it. Keep on playing.
thanks for this tutorial

P.S, how did you learn this?
gtr362 3 years ago
What do you call that pick you wrap around your thumb? It looks really useful.
JizzleMaFizzle 3 years ago
Thumb pick. Haha. I love mine. Gives the ability to chord and do percussion without holding a pick or having the squishiness of your thumb.

Hmm... the harmonic at 3:55 is that a simple
5th fret harmonic, 6 3 2 1 string pluck?
kfectz08 4 years ago
nm got it. 3rd fret 6th string plus a harmonic. woot

I love the video, really easy way to learn these cool songs, and with some practice even if you suck really bad you can play these songs.
- one thing though, kinda lame that you tagged this video with tags that have nothing to do with it... what's that all about?

....? how....his response is for part 2 lol

the tuning isn't the same as Spiritual Groove
Antoine plays it in the same tuning only on the solo video
everywhere else its down a step from this tuning

c is slightly higher then the normal B tuning just tighten it a bit
