  • This is exactly how I feel when my girl steals the blanket in the middle of the night, and the window is open, and the fans blasting on high.

  • I think he is really Lemony Snicket...

  • Very nice!!!★

  • Bardzo mi sie podoba zróżnicowanie piosenek Gotye są tak różne a jednocześnie wszystkie bardzo bardzo dobre. Great, fantastic awsome music !!!

  • He's awesome.

  • Its 2012 and i'm barely knowing him.

  • I swear some people just have nothing better to do so they grab all 14 of their friends and all downvote good videos that don't deserve dislikes

  • Dear God!

  • Cooles Lied....cooles Video...er ist ein bisschen verückt....I like him.

  • Good song! The strings reminds me a bit of Depeche Modes One Caress. :)

  • I wonder if he actually walk likes he is in a stop motion film in real life??? A friend introduced me to his awesome music, so here I am following the trail of bread crumbs on YouTube :)

  • He looks good, wearing this hat! I like that.

  • getting lonely getting old.

  • Wow, I was thinking he reminded me of Peter Gabriel too! I am over the Moon for Gotye! Tremendous music!!!

  • This dude sounds a lot like Maynard James Keenan when he sang in perfect circle!

  • er will uns sagen das man nimanden in stich *-*

  • Oh mein Gott, es gibt Sting gleich 2 mal. Das ist ein Sohn von Sting, ich bin sicher. 1981 ......hatte Police 1980 nen Konzert in Belgien??? Ich bin hin und weg!!!!

  • This song sounds very Portishead-ish. I totally dig it.

  • Good use of the amazing Melbourne architecture, especially Degraves underpass. I love that little hidden gem... well done.

  • I am so proud that he is Australian/Belgralian :) He is absolutely amazing. His voice is angelic.

  • 0:49

    Wedding ring </3

  • @oblarghhhhvious wrong hand. not a wedding ring. WOOOOO

  • AMG, he filmed this in the city near where I live. :'3

  • 0:49 he has a rig on?

  • Such an evocative video. It begins in a misty, lightly forested area, and Gotye walks slowly in a similar fashion to an old Chaplin movie. It is as though he is travelling through old memories, old places visited before maybe in happier days, and with someone he was happy and secure with back then. He wanders through the town and travels to the 9th floor of a building. What does the 9th floor mean? A final goodbye?

  • @tarasinski1999 Thanks for pretty much describing the video. Well done.

  • 2:03 - love this piano :)

  • ah man...listening to this is just like a f*cking dream...you know, the one where you know you're dreaming...

  • the exact location of where his from is irrelevant, he makes amazing musical art and he is not a following sheep.. can we just love him for those reasons

  • Proud to be a Belgian.

  • He seems to be experiencing lag

  • @Probieboss internet meets reality.

  • @Probieboss ping of >500

  • @Probieboss Actually he sounds like an Indie version of Peter Gabriel

  • @Anjo10101 Thats what I was thinking when I heard "Somebody I used to know". The video reminded me a little of "Sledgehammer".

  • This song is almost the same as "licence to kill" by gladys knight...

  • is he going to jump at the end?

  • @TheBluSoleil good question. i just want that extra five seconds... XD

  • he's perfect.

  • Oh home sweet home, i was so pleased this genius came frm my howe town. I got reaquainted with Gotye in the US because of "Somebody i used to know". He's videos are now making pinning for good old Melbourne.

  • @Neojhun did"somebody that l used to know come out in the US first (prior to Australia)?

  • @68deluxe No, friends online told me about it, i don't think the physical cd out here yet. I bough mine on Amazon imported from Aus.

  • I think he looks delicious, don't know what people here are on about.

  • @TheModelDiary Same here. I think I'm in love.

  • This is so Melbourne. Great pics of the City <3

  • There you go, the Depeche Mode influence from 'CONDEMNATION'.. in the background rhythm. Sweet!

  • Well isn't he gorgeous.

  • jeez, he is very goodlucking! <3

  • Wy a lot of the good music now a days come from Australia? Like Boy and Bear and Emma Louise and Gotye. Does anybody has a answer for it?

  • @ikmijzelfenmij coz we're awesome :P

  • @ikmijzelfenmij We have good music programs in schools and we are fucking rad

  • Oh Wally you really satifies my sexual fantasies!!

  • Shows parts of the Mornington Peninsula, and Melbourne with all of it hidden treats!

I am sure that the trees he was walking through is Sea Winds Park at Arthurs Seat Victoria Australia & parts of Flinders!

The music is awesome also....live the style!

  • <3 beautiful man.

  • My only criticism of this song is that this Short version is amazing, whilst the album version is about twice as long and lacks the same punch. When I first heard it I heard this version, and loved. Unfortunately, like Hearts A Mess loses some of its vitality by dragging on, or taking to long to get to the point in the album version. Still, i love it.

  • BEST EYES I COULD LOOK INTO THEM ALL DAY!!! AND WHAT A VOICE!!

  • He's an aussie. A HUGE percentage of Aussies were born somewhere else and then grew up here - still Aussies. Sorry Belgium. Not sure what all the irrelevant guff about his weight or hair is all about LOL and I saw that comment re "he sounds international" ROFLMAO what the? Gotta love Youtube comments. Anyway - I just love this guy.- his voice, his songwriting, his musicianship, his looks and his funny humble personality. All gorgeous.

  • @halag Well said! I was born overseas, came here when I was 26 and I consider myself an Aussie (and proud of it).

  • @halag ;-)

Guess it's a nurture versus nature debate... And obviously he is less Belgian as we would wish for (since he lived down under for so long). But then again, if you here him speak his mothertongue on national radio, we do realize some parts of Belgium are still in his heart! All in all I have to agree with your "Anyway - I just love this guy.- his voice, his songwriting, his musicianship, his looks and his funny humble personality. All gorgeous."

  • who else does a cover of this song? it's a female ..... please help..... i love the song but i can't place where I've heard it before...

  • who else does a cover of this song? it's a female ..... please help.....

  • Has anyone got the version he did live on jtv? It was so awesome, he screamed out the last notes. If anyone has seen it ya'll know what im talking about

  • yeh how do you pronounce gotye?

  • He's a looker and incredibly talented. A dangerously awesome mix ;)

  • cooooolllll

  • Talented dude...where is he now ???

  • i've always wondered how you pronounce his name. nevertheless, an amazing song.

  • @yeahtash His name is DUTCH, from Belgium..

  • As rude as petARGH's reply was I have to agree, even though he was born in Belgium I'd call hm an aussie...either way he makes amazing music : )

  • Probably the most talented around right now...anyone else doing stuff like this all by their lonesome?

  • check out The Album Leaf. different genre of music but another great talent that recorded the entire album by himself. hope you enjoy :)

  • dumb cunts. he's australian. his music was developed and made in australia. he went to parade college in melbourne. belgium trying to lay claim to his talent. fuck off u chocolate making cunts

  • he was born in belgium and lived here for 2 years and then he moved to australia, we just like him and we are proud he has flemish blood :D

  • Yes, he spent most of his life in Australia. But he is Belgian. Or is Walter De Backer an Australian name? If someone born in Australia moves out to Belgium, he is still an Australian. And I like Australia!!!

  • haha i like chocolate... but yes hes aussie, period!

  • and i like pie. cant we just like his music

  • belgian or australian he is a nice boy to cuddle and listen to while pillow talking:P don't you think?

  • the idea of it just makes me warm =D

I just don't do it that often

I probably totally agree with you

  • ah, you must try ;) :)))

  • we love belgium =D

  • Gotta love good 'ol Melbourne town.

  • feels like im trippin...

  • His music reminds me of Pink Floyd.

  • Reminds me of Aqualung!

  • beautiful song...just love his voice...

  • i met him on the weekend, his band the basics played in launceston... great guys!!

  • The Basics? Is it the name of his band?

  • yeah, its Wally, Tim Heath and Kris Schroeder

    kinda Beatles-esque :)

  • Thank you, Good to know ;)

  • ahhh melbourne town, wallys awesome.

  • this clip is amazing,

stop motion is so frustrating and time consuming,

this one would of been a bitch to put together.

    looks so good.

  • I love this song!!!! I can listen to it over and over!!!! Gotye is one of the best artests of our time!!!!

  • Very creative and original.

  • wow .. so relaxing compared to the other types of music i listen to !

  • pure pleasure:)

  • he reminds me of Jeff Buckley

  • Absolutely love this song, I was just about to burn out of listening to Hearts a Mess after 5,000 times when I found this one, great tune. Thanks for the clip.

  • Really clever film clip. That would have taken a while to make. Haven't heard this before but I like it. I've only heard the songs off Like Drawing Blood.

  • Funny how people thought it was Danile Johns who sang this.I thought it was an oldie in Sting from the Police which shows my ignorance too :P.

  • ...This song, rules

    Gotye... rules

    Aussie talent rules!

Who cares what he looks like, music isnt about image, which is why a whole shitload of bands now days are soo famous, coz they play into fasion and pretty much all look like metros or emos.

  • what's the name of the album this is off?

  • Album is off Boardface

  • thanks. i've got like drawing blood, but i'll have to get this one.

  • Kazval

Ok for starters Gotye is from Australia, which happens to produce some of the best music in the world.

Also it is not a group (so no fella's), just one man by the name of Wally DeBacker.

Second of all, honey hes not here to please your sexual fantasies!

So saying he needs to putt some weight on and dye his hair is really, ridiculous, hes here for his music and his talent, which he writes amazingly and sings just as great!

He's a musician, he about words not looks!

  • Ehm, do your homework, Gotye (or Wouter De Backer) is actually from Belgium....

  • He was born in Belgium, but he grew up in Australia.

  • @Pussies07Prems

If I may say, he was born in BELGIUM ^^ hehe

He moved to Australia when he was two ;p

  • @Pussies07Prems he's the definition of the word "musician"

  • @Pussies07Prems hes acctually from belgium

  • @hhhhhhhh677

He was born in Belgium and grew up in Australia, so technically he's both. Belgralian, or Austrelgian!

  • I totally agree!!!!! perfectly put

  • @Pussies07Prems He is not a real Aussiee, he is born in Belgium 1980 and moves to australie at a young age;) and the rest of your text i agree too!;)

But i thought i let ya know that he is not a australian:)

  • Yeah, I totally agree! He (its just one fella) would totally sound better if he ate some and cut some of that...brown hair...

No offense KazVal, but wasn't that one of the most uncalled for comments all times? Honestly :)

  • I'm thinking you got so many thumbs down cos people just don't understand sarcasm. sad times.

  • kazval, melbourne has one of the most diverse and good music scenes out there, its just that not many people know about... and if anything, hearts a mess sounded a lot more british/european than it does american.. not too sure what you mean by "sounds international" anyway... !

  • To kazval: not everybody who makes music comes from the states ;)

  • sigh.... he's a cutie...

  • No, sounds more like Steve Winwood or Peter Gabriel. Or even Lior if you want someone more of recent times.

  • sigh!

  • i'm begging you

  • i saw this song live the other night - damn good stuff!

  • I work in that building! Awesome

  • nice song.. the film clip enhances it.. MAN I LOVE MELBOURNE

  • Ehhh me too, in a big way.

  • oh...this is so cool!

  • Pure class!

  • heartwrenchingly beautiful

  • I'll die

  • Beautiful

  • R u trippin? No way could Daniel Johns write anything this amazing. Ever. <3

  • I'm with you - v e e e e r y different.

  • I think its the vocal sound they're referring to. I can hear some Daniel Johns definitely in that voice.

But while we're talking about writing, lets not make this a who's-better-than-who discussion... they're completely different artists and what they both do they do well!

  • I checked this song out because i really liked "hearts a mess". I've heard this so many times, but i alwaysthought it was a Daniel Johns/silverchair song....
