Does anyone here know what the purpose was for the orange robot that was used in the show? I was only 4 or 5 at the time Riptide was popular in the 80's & never did see it. I do remember the theme song though, as i saw it once while mom was flipping channels trying to find something. My mom was a Big Dallas and Knots Landing fan, she'd watch those when they were on, and glued to the TV set. lol

As the show went through the seasons, it played less and less of a role.
I always suspected the writers, etc., had hopes for it at the beginning, but it was ill-conceived. To do much with it would have required sci-fi-level intelligence, which would have ruined the show.
