Dave and o.a.r. are both bad ass bands but dave is a lyrical genious which sets him apart from o.a.r.. And as for live dave matthews period, with band or tim reynolds , is so much better than o.a.r. no question. DMB improv WAY WAY more. They jam for real. Still love o.a.r.

@bobaseball3 as a fan of both, I'd have to say there's not really a comparison. They have two different styles, two different mentalities. O.A.R. seems to be a little less 'mature' if you wish while most Dave song's require you to think a little more about what he's trying to say. There's nothing wrong with either style. I tend to listen to O.A.R a little more because it fits my personality better 90% of the time. A little more light hearted (in most cases)

YOu want to know what ticks me off? saying that OAR are sell outs. I completely disagree. Ever heard the albums In Beteween NOw and Then or Risen? Both of those albums have songs on them like songs they had on Stories of a Stranger or All Sides. I love their new music and their old music. and if it had never been for the song Love and Memories I would have never looked into OAR.

Dave Matthews Band was my favorite band and still is one of my favs and the first time I heard OAR was at a friends house I said they were dave posers. about a month or so later I started listening to OAR more and realized they were totally different. and Now OAR is my favorite band. ROCK ON!

I've never seen DMB live, but O.A.R. live is literally the best concert I've ever seen live. They are something people must see before they die because this band relates to anyone and everyone. This is one of the most musically gifted groups in the world. Keep it up!

@SLP766 Absolutely, O.A.R. and Dave get compared a lot and I definitely think they are similar, but at the same time I feel like they are very different. To me, I feel like a lot of O.A.R. songs have a more lighthearted, almost hippie / wanderer feel. Dave's songs are sick, of course, but they seem a lot more complicated and almost symphonic. Most Dave fans like O.A.R., and most O.A.R. fans like Dave, but few give O.A.R. the respect it deserves as an original group
