  • Because people weren't bad enough at driving...

    Here have a personal plane!

  • NASA to humanity: "Please enjoy your new flying coffins

(ahem, please don't cut our funding... please... we have ideas n stuff)"

  • Made something like this on a small scale back in the 80's using a MRC 5 channel radio and a couple of .049 cox engines, not electric. Nasa never backed me, nope, just mowing lawns in the neighborhood did that.

  • this design leaves the pilot in a prone position and is not safe.

  • yep cause we are all rich

  • haha he said poop

  • Nice video, thanks for sharing it.Better off visiting ufohowto dot com. & quit bowing to BIGOil. Besides "who is going to get the pilot for f.u.i."? (heheheh)

  • Rather, let's think real? How about trying to create full or plug-in hybrids to replace the conventional gas car? And for people who love cars and more importantly, performance cars... Electric cars are not that bad. Not bad at all, they are very powerful as proven by the BMW I8 which is rumored to generate nearly 700-800 lb-ft of torque! That's more than about most supercars today!

  • It's.... Buzz Lightyear!!!

  • LOL Yea sure peoples can't park their cars properly , most of them can't drive properly... and you are going to see them FLYING in their personal little planes ? LOL

  • If you were to crash you would do so head first lol.

  • Not safe

  • What a totally stupid design.

  • Muy incomodo, se me ase una mamada diseñada por algun puberto fan del anime

  • "No emissions" - how do you produce electricity, again? And batteries? D:

  • Stupid waste of time.

  • looks good but why not a design where you can be in a sitting positon all the time. the laydown position looks very uncomfortable

  • Love this thing, it is the best solution so far that i have seen for an air transport that can rival the car. I hope that this will be an exception from the rest of nasas research and will end with a usable and affordable product.

  • What happened to the Moller Car?

  • how much does it cost?

  • That's a really, REALLY dumb way to take off and land an aircraft.

  • lets see,a very personal flying thing. Ask the 74 year old pilot at the Reno air races that landed nose first at 400MPH. I have known a lot of professional pilots that are no more, can't emagine Bubba trying to land in a cow pasture, lets not forget drunk as well. I am a 35 year pilot with no accidents. I don't fly no more, can't afford it.

  • how do ya get into that thing ?

  • When or if this thing hits the markets, get ready for a LOT of accidents and deaths.

i can just see it already

  • :O I Want a screaming eagle chopper plain!

  • 40 something years and they tease us with another dream this is 2011 and where is the home of tomorrow? or a robot maid they have been talking about this personal vehicle since the 40's and we still drive on the ground and we are still not in space. I am tired of watching our taxes go to NASA for dreaming.

  • they need to make this rechargeable through propeller motion so you can extend flight time by using thermals to climb in elevation with an adapted infrared optics you could easily find the thermals to use for this purpose!

  • why he so seem so sure when saying its specs?show us a real vid of it.

  • Another rich person's toy to make us poor unwashed middle class feel bad about us having to own older vehicles...

  • I wonder if there is a little 'fly' under the craft where you piss out of when you are flying...

  • The Wright Brothers Flyer was a "personal aircraft" too,not exactly a new concept.

  • Imagine that you fly one of these things over a lake and all over sudden you want to pee

  • None of these ideas will ever come to fruition. Aviation as it exists today is out of control, in "controlled" airspace, no less. I've seen idiots in 2-seat Cessnas damn near kill each other...what do you think will happen with a sky full of these running amok ???? And they'll come crashing down on your house, family car, and anything else unfortunate enough to be under one when it quits flying. Knightsix

  • @60knightsix That is a problem but not neccesarily a killing blow against craft like this. How many people die in just a single day in north america from car crashes? Theres a certain level of risk the public is willing to accept.

  • @60knightsix They said that it's meant to hover not crash. Not unless they crash horizontally into a building.

  • We're wasting national resources to come up with crap like this? How about finding a way to convince to automotive industry to make carbon fiber and composite cars with aluminum engines and other aluminum parts a standard. it the 21st century for Pete's sake. If you reduce weight, you improve the power-to-weight ratio which means you can essentially use less power/fuel to move the same vehicle.

  • @wccrispy

I think it's good people all over the world are putting their creativity to the test by coming up with all kinds of creations, which, in the long run, will likely end up inspiring or lending ideas to the more significant, more groundbreaking discoveries to be made in the near future!

Every area of science should be in constant motion, even for military applications. All you should do is stop the war-making, not the research. Sadly that's something very unlikely to happen.

  • @wccrispy perhaps if the US didnt have such a fucking enormous defence budget we could come up with soemthing good

  • @zenoparodie I'm right there with you man. One of the reasons I want to vote for Ron Paul is because of all the true budget cuts he plans to implement with 1 Trillion dollars being cut the first year and bringing all of the troops home from around the world as well.

  • @wccrispy gas/combustible fuel isnt even needed they had electric carsi in 1997

  • all I could think about when watching this was halo banshee

  • I guess informing clients about high risk of entering vortex ring state in case of such a rotor configuration will not be a part of marketing campaign...

  • A 50 mile limit? What's the use of that?!

I also note that there's no room for any luggage.

  • I'm not enthused about this thing because it's over 250 pounds in weight. That means it's not classified as an Ultra Light, so you still need a pilot's license. Once you have a pilot's license, you can make enormous amounts of cash and that in turn means you can afford something much better than a stupid puffin.

  • Puffin? Really???

  • how do you go to the restroom in this thing?

  • Yeah!!! And I am Superman!!!

  • Puffin + C4 = OH SHIT :O

  • where can i buy it? :P

  • Will never work for the masses. Too many idiots running into each other.

  • Screaming Eagle Chopper Plane - You'd buy anything with that name.

  • I'd buy one since it could fit in my garage and I could land it on a rooftop.

  • wings are WAYYYY to small

  • Why the freakin ads? I hate em. Never watch a vid that has em. only encourages them to show more and more.

  • @Sixalienasa W/out adds, How would YouTube staff support it? I'm annoyed by them too, but there IS that factor.

  • @niflap They make enough dosh anyway, I never will watch em. Never do on TV either. Utter waste of time.

  • muy bueno para los claustrofobicos, y lo mejor de todo, si te keres rascar el orto aprendes contorcionismo ,,

  • Also, if it weighs 400 pounds I'd hate to see what it does in winds.

  • What a horrid little airplane.

Ill hold onto my cessna, thanks.

  • @cprich22 don't get me wrong, americans have actually invented a few things over the years but not all of the things they claim are theirs. Afterall, it is a Brit that is regarded as the inventor of the jet engine but in truth there were actually 3 patents for the jet engine about 30 years before the Brit got the idea, and they were all from americans! One was merely a written idea of principles without drawings, but still, 30 years before Frank Wittle or Hans Von Ohain(of Germany)!

  • Not for me, thank you. It will not glide too well, and I fly much better supine than I do prone.

  • i am going to get a batman costume when this comes out

  • from this, to a banshee!

  • "Man and Machine! Power Extreme! The Centerions!!!"

  • Something about this vehicle reminds me of the old HannaBarbara cartoon "Centeriuns."

  • It will be mine....oh yes...it will be mine....

  • CHECK OUT "UFO Disclosure, Revelations & the 2012 Connection" ON

YOUTUBE This is a compilation of evidence revealed by former and present

American presidents, astronauts, military personnel, politicians along

with credible aired UFO footage. This compilation also contains planned

revelations regarding knowledge of life beyond Earth along with it's

current and ever ongoing presence which is being hidden from the public.

This has been hidden from the public for over 50 years. + MORE

  • Designed and developed by NASA? I think the commentator should get his facts straight! Typical American! Think they've invented stuff they haven't! This is actually based on a Nazi German design from W W II as illustrated by the pilots position. NASA have merely redesigned it to take off vertically. Lying thieving Americans at it again. Next they'll be telling us that they invented the light bulb!

  • @Itsmeeman1 shhh don't bring up history lol. you are so right

  • @Itsmeeman1 or that they invented the EU

  • what was that cartoon that aired in the 90's which had three characters and each had there own machine that would attach to their bodies one yellow - for land, blue - flying, green - land. this machine reminds me of that cartoon. just can't think of the name.

  • Yeah, let me just fuckin crawl into one of those.

  • what do you do if you have a leg cram??

  • Jesus Christ....this guy (commentator) sounds like Yoda during his puberty vocal change! After 30 Seconds i just couldn't listen anymore....

  • weren't puffins flightless birds? maybe they should rethink the name.

  • Don't smoke and fly.

  • Put some guns on it.

    Send it to war.

    Profit.

  • fuck your ads, fuck them.

  • haha only 400 lbs its going be wild ride if u live in a wind place.

  • Cost? 0.5 or 1.0 million? And no fun of making out with a girl in space..than in parking lot ...

  • my neck hurts

  • haha, all these failed attempts of people trying to make a funny! (Below)

  • 1 wordt, Nano batteries..

  • how do you get in

  • @pricelessppp I believe the back opens up in the back and you step in and close the door behind you, like a clamshell.

  • Thats all we need in this post 9/11 world, human guided missles.

  • @nitojo7 As opposed to missiles guided by humans without the controller inside it? We've had UAV technology for decades.

  • 1 for the chrestmas list

  • If your vehicle breaks down while driving, you pull over. If this breaks down while flying...

  • how u meant to smoke in that?

  • @bawbaganoo yo I would puff a blunt in the puffin

  • @ThePeter0985 defo puff a blunt in the puffin. Id have a bong hooked up to the turbine

  • Ever see video of people that can't drive or park a car -- imagine the hell they will create with this.

  • @bigsoundz Many drivers today have a great deal of difficulty mastering the complexities of turn signals. Can't ever see the average driver passing the necessary testing required to obtain a pilot's license. As always, it is an interesting concept.

  • @bigsoundz Computer driven operations (not all of them).

  • @bigsoundz

There's no way the government will let humans drive it. It will have to drive itself to a pre-determined location. Otherwise there will be a bunch of puffins crashing and falling from the sky.

  • @bigsoundz those ass-fucks couldn't afford these. and security would be WAAAAAY to tight for them to jst "steal" one

  • I'll stick to my jet pack.

  • So when you get out of one of these, will there be girls waiting to mate with you?

  • Looks great, but how about a friggin 3rd wheel to land in wind and perhaps a rear-view mirror..

  • Cant wait to see these thing start falling out of the sky. Should be amusing

  • waiwut... Screaming eagle chopper-plane ?

  • damn.....that looks awesome!

  • I had one of these in my garage but the kid down the street that I suspect is really not a paperboy but works for the goverment stole the fucker.

Next time that fat assed punk comes by to collect I'll dump a bucket of chilli powder on his greasy scalp and let my collie named Hank have at his balls.

  • when these come out the US will be full of immigrants...

  • 400LBs with an average American onboard 800LBs

  • ''There is only one thing a man should be doing in that position and it has nothing to do with flying.''

(Quote from a nasa test pilot after trying an aircraft with controls set up so the pilot lays in the prone position to allow harder turns without passing out)

  • Yeah the guy who named this thing obviously was a Scientist and NOT a Marketing Wiz! LOL! "Yeah lets name it a Puffin cause a Puffin Hides its poop...therefore its enviromentally friendly, just like our ship!" LMAO!!!

  • it has two USBs aswell! :D

  • We should mass produce these and give one to every democrate

  • hahahaha people driving these drunk. That would be scary as hell.

  • @burgulblaster not really enough mass to hurt anyone but the Pilot(uused very loosely) could enclose the blades in a duct for additional safety.

  • @circusboy90210 Not enough mass to hurt anyone?? I'm pretty sure that if you are flying above the ground and a drunk runs into you you're gonna die. This would be an awesome idea if humans were responsible, alas beer just tastes too good.

  • @burgulblaster not anymore dangerous than a motorcycle of which mainly hurts the pilot of it as well more times than not.

  • make it hydrogen powered

  • True. Sadly a large part of Americans couldn`t even fit in because of obesity. Even if they could make it big enough it couldn`t get of the ground. Also landing like that is ridiculous and very dangerous. Let show it with people build and ready. Paper planes with cheap models can be done by anyone these days.

  • In the future, masters will fly in the sky with some kind of aircraft, but most of the people will still step on earth just like stupid bipedal animals...

  • @darkon4431 Eh....dont people fly in the sky in 'some sort of aircraft' while most people still just walk right now?!?! I guess your statement could have been prophetic if you had said it a couple hundred years ago.....Your like a Reverse Nostradamus! Wow!

  • @frankensteinmoneymac you'r just like a Brave New World prophet man ! go ahead, you have mass of people believing in yours...( but without me helass)

  • @darkon4431 Hmmm, and just like Nostradamus you write things in some sort of code.....since you are the REVERSE Nostradamus, then you must be telling me something about my past......Hmmmm I think I read Brave New World back in High School.....what secret could you be revealing about my past with your statement??? Hmmmm my mind is going to be working on this puzzle!!!!

  • WOW :...... WAIT FOR ME FUTURE :DD

  • why is nasa trying to appeal to the private sector consumers? Last time i checked they were a govt run administration focused on space exploration. Bastards get enough of our money as it is.

  • Electric motors designed to fail! You heard it here first!

  • NASA - they know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Here is an absurd idea.. and design. Twin rotor VTOL craft are notoriously unreliable on landing take-off (Osprey, anyone?) And how do you land in a strong wind? I guess the first $10 million was spent coming up with the name, the next $10 million choosing the office wallpaper, etc. A boondoggle waste of money... again.

  • @Tobacc0 the osprey just needs more computers. another part of the problem is pilot training time accidents caused reduced flights which means less proficiency, which in turn causes more accidents which grounds more pilots from more trainingn . vicous downward spiral no pun intended.

  • Such an aircraft would require both fixed and rotary wing instruction and ratings. To simply obtain a private pilot license requires a minimum of 40 hrs, where as in reality the average is more like 52. Then a student would have to learn how to fly a rotary wing aircraft and that'd probably take another 40 hrs. In addition this is a single person craft, so any person desiring the fly couldn't be instructed in how to fly it specifically. This is a complete waste of our tax dollars!

  • @grissomairport change the law.

  • its just like the plans in the movie "battle for terra" nasa is a copy cat! lol bridging-humanity (dot) com

  • If they make a working prototype. That doesn't mean that they'l sell it to a company wich will put it on mass production.

It's much more dangerous considernig pilot's mistakes.

    It's a nice concept though.

Today not much people can affoard to travel with helicopter. And not much of a helipads.

  • Meet George Jetson.....lol!

  • If Nanowire batteries ever become mature enough, this same vehicle could get a range of between 400 to 550 miles. These next few decades should be pretty interesting to watch.

  • I'd settle for a microturbine Jet-A powered version of this thing with a 120-mile range. It would be more energy efficient and cleaner than an electric craft recharged from some filthy coal burning power plant several hundred miles away.

  • im glad it has no emmissions because looking at the size of it if it let loose with an emmission while you were underneath it look out below. im just saying its going to be pretty nasty.

  • @datzfast are you saying your glad it doesn't poop

  • @datzfast the emmissions are simply relocated it has emssions too.

  • For those worried about the environment, as far as I recall, there is a solar charger for this. Plug it in for a quick charge if you really want.

Oh, and hopefully you'll need a PAV license to fly one, at least I won't have to worry about the crazy taxi drivers in this thing.

  • I always like how people say electric is 100% clean, like electric energy just magically appears out of nowhere, when in fact, over 50% of the electric enrgery in the USA is produced by coal burning plants, & the Puffin is about the stupidest watse of government money I have ever seen, like CEOs will suddenly be flying between buildings in one man aircraft, as if

  • this look pretty awesome, but I hate it when people make out that electric vehicles are good for the enivroment. They're worse, getting the electricity from the powerstation and then charging up a battery uses more energy then simply releasing the energy straight from the fuel (like in cars)

  • environmentally friendly, laughable. When will people realize that energy is energy, whether you are burning gas in you plane, or whether your burning coal, to charge the battary for you environmentally friendly plane, the pollution externality is essentially the same.

lets not even get on to how do you govern a flying population

  • @psinanan In the near future, electricity WILL be environmentally friendly, and this plane is meant for the near future, not now... Also, people now can own their private plane and get a pilots license so the government is already governing a flying population.

  • jesus, people can't even control their credit cards let alone this thing. Make it a sit on arrangment like a motorbike with 3 electric motors and they may have something alittle more logical. Nasa, I have plans already, CALL me

  • I can tell you this would never work in Miami. Miami drivers in the sky? sends chills down my spine!

  • MUST HAVE!!!!

  • Cool....they should make a two person version though...

  • this is cool....way to go guys

  • when everybody gets one of these and the sky gets crouded i'm just gonna get a normal car and drive on the empty roads

  • @Mr41432 actually lolling XD

  • @Mr41432 tat day is far far from now, in dreams only

  • i used to have lucid dreams about this idea when i was like 8 years old. was the best feeling ever only seeing whats infront of you flying over citties and things just to hear this dream i once craved to become a reality is over whelming. obviously im not the only one with dreas like tht

  • @11thetruthisoutthere When you were 8 years old? So, you're telling us about last night's dream? Sorry, couldn't resist. You had so many spelling and grammar errors in your comment. ;-)

  • I want one.

  • I don't think this is a good idea for the general public, but i do forsee a future military application.

  • this would make it so easy for alqueda to crash into buildings

  • coolcooolcoolcool

  • Primative Earthlings!!!

  • so this thing produces no poop?

  • Single occupancy flight machine are a novelty that have been around for 60 years. This one is quieter and has an interesting design. If perfected, this would be a rich persons toy or public service vehicle for special use (think police or forest service). This is not a transportation solution for the masses.

  • @kdwoolfe bede bd5j

  • I still prefer walking or riding my bike if where I'm going is less than 15 miles away.

  • @Watzitoya I'm pretty sure where you live and at what times you gotta get somewhere...

I can easily imagine that in the bigger cities this could be useful if it only were a prototype... however if more ppl started using them then it would make a whole load of trouble

  • @Watzitoya I woudent walk 15 mile

  • @Watzitoya then enjoy getting everywhere last buddy. Some of us don't have the time to dawdle you patronizing twat.

  • @Dudeness21 Didn't realize getting somewhere was a constant race? Haha.

  • @Watzitoya its got a range of 50 miles...not 15

  • I want this thing!

  • Haha was it not similar criticism with the announcement of the first car? or the first biplane? I predict this will be widely used within the next 30yrs

  • you predict that huh? you do realize little things like this have been around for years all saying the same thing "with little expence"

but little do they know their are other hidden costs that will sky rocket the price for the average consumer.

  • fuck that imagine how uncomfortable you would be after laying on youre stomach after an Hour
