this is absolutely fascinating, me and my dance group are performing on stage and dancing on this same songs using the same outfits! but were not anywhere close to their talents! respect Moiseyev.

it's amazing, these ballet dancers always make jumping seem something so much fun, and so light and effortless (when in reality it's quite different, obviously :P), it's almost as if they had bumpers under their feet hahahaha :D
Не можу сперечатися з Моїсеєвим,це був великий геній!Але що стосується лексики дівчат,важко це назвати танцем української манери.Швидше ,бачення українського танцю росіянами.
you might also like this instrumental band from washington dc. they have a beautiful sounding violin, guitar and drums. very dreamy! search for "Radium Karmara"
THAT was amazing - the jump was sooo high. This is all very 'folk' choreography but you can see how the Slavic folk dancing influenced breakdancing today. The old and the new; very cool.
@susannanyc It was danced like this looong before the word "breakdance" was invented.
maybe the jumps are too high for genuine folk dance but the style and choreo are real, not influenced by breakdancing, far from it. Moiseyev ballet was all about geniality
Reading these comments I realise that the Yankee are still the ignorant and brutal slave traders they always were. What an aefull contry - till total bankrupcy.
Ok guys! I think the ensemble is trully amazing and Moiseiyev was without doubt an extraordinary person for the world of dance!! But I didn´t actually like this Hopak, it has lots of russian influences on the choreografy and when you have some stuff like Virsky´s ensemble beside you CANNOT compare, in my opinion, as Ukranian dancers they are really good Russian Dancers!!
English is not my mother tongue and I am not a dance expert, but I have just one thing to say: I loved the ballet, the dancers, the costumes and of course, the lively music. Viva Moiseyev!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I like Moiseyev, but he doesn't do Ukraine justice...all the rest of the world, yes...he does a Greek number, Sirtaky, & it is to die for. Totally academic, very high-class. He does Ukraine vulgarly, absolutely no class.
Further to my reply...I forgot to mention that the costuming is all wrong...the guys don't wear "svitky" (jackets in Hopak), & don't wear black boots...they wear red. And, the girls don't wear peasant blouses (short sleeves), they wear long sleeve blouses.
you like Moiseev or not...decide first - talking about lack of class first tell others who's a first class... anyway the one who speaks Moiseev is a second class is vulgar ignorant fool so please shut your fuck up mister dance expert
Maybe, if you understood English, you'd understand what it is that I meant...I don't know about the country that you're from...but in Canada, it's called freedom of speech, & it's in our Charter of Rights & Freedoms. So, until otherwise stated, I can say whatever I want...oh, & btw...I am a dance expert! What have you done in dance...Probably NOTHING!!!!!
i don't give a shit about your justice and freedom of speech...u say u're 'dance expert'? why talking about jurisprudence...only one advice - to change you occupation
I understand English well enough to figure out you're the most ignorant dance expert of all. I am not claiming i am a dance expert all i know all the world knows Igor Moiseev's ballet... please tell your real name to the world so it would know the name of the a ignorant fool
I had the privilege of seeing this company on their first visit to the U.S. Seeing this video is exciting but being there in person was an unforgettable thrill. Still have never seen anything to compare.....
I was fortunate to see them in person. It was exciting, thrilling! Nothing negative to say, Only POSITIVE! Hard work for these excellent dancers! Standing ovations!
Wow, but see this in person...if it comes to your area. Moiseyev was the genius of this company. He took folk dance and made it art which it fundamentally is.
originaly this Ukrainian dance is hiden combat training footman warrior against two mounted warriors. Just imagine 2 swords-sabre in his hands and his legs are directed into enemy.
Actually, the Hopak was celebration of a victory in combat, where one man would share his tricks to outdo his comrades. Women were not added as background to the men for quite a while.....
If they did brake dancing they would win the international title

Що стосується музики - аранжування :
є різні варіанти гопака та мелодії інших українських чоловічихі танців, які можна було би використати...
Все ж таки слухати 7 хвилин одну й ту саму мелодію - сказитися можна! :-)
