  • the screw is functioning not much different from a water wheel as a source of torque but i think 'carmium' is right. the classic archimedian screw was meant to lift water.

  • Aren't Archimedian screws meant to LIFT water?

  • @carmium And it is not? You're only looking at the "open side" of the system where it lets water go out to the bottom, but the "closed side" of the system is keeping water up on the screw.

  • how much it costs?

  • What is the main purpose of this machine or device? Slow's the water flow..? Rinsing?

  • @GrEenUniCORN68

    generating electricity....

  • no problem, great piece of engineering.

  • What about the safety issue? I wouldn't want young kids playing around that, unless it was covered.

  • @TroyOi Please read below, the cover was removed for the filming.

  • Why do you want a screw vs a wheel?

  • @simdude2u Good question!

The screw has the highest water to mechanical efficiency (up to 97%) for low head turbines. This enables maximum generation year round. The screw is also fish friendly meaning fish can swim down its length un-harmed. This is another massive advantage over the waterwheel. Please visit the Hallidays Hydropower website for more information on this fantastic technology.

  • It goes back into the atmosphere for another load of energy. :-)

  • I wonder what water becomes after its energy is removed?

  • huh the water is flowing down hill anyway and it ment to pump water up.. isnt it up side down ????? that in the video is doing nothing

  • @DPMANLA Energy maybe?

  • @DPMANLA If you have a look at the HallidaysHydropower website you will gain a better understanding.

  • It doubles as a meat grinder!

  • fall in there ,itll chop you up

  • who got this footage of me getting a hard on?

  • this is not so good for fish

  • @DivBMesa or small children

  • @DivBMesa This excellent for fish and it alleviates the flooding. Previously the fish had no way of travelling downstream as there was a 2.4m drop over which they would have to fall. Now they can swim down the Archimedean Screw. More information at hallidayshydropower website

  • nothing like a good water screw

  • 400MW

  • prolocater if you look this screw here is a Generator not a pump it goes the wrong way (down hill). if you look at "huge archimedes screw pump at work in kinderdijk" it goes up hill that is a pump

  • I thought you putted this one up today and got 40k views, and then i saw it was this day 2 years ago...

  • Good

  • @Mr420wholesalers I TOO AM INCAPABLE OF USING LOWERCASE LETTERS OR PUNCTUATION

  • Dare you to jump in :P

  • nice! How many kW does it generate? In Poland there are about 700 small hydro's but none with archimedean screw!

  • @ziebol1 This scheme is a domestic scheme replacing the waterwheel for the old mill. It generates 30,000kWh per year and provides enough electricity and more to run the entire heating and hot water of the four large apartments in the mill.

  • Comment removed

  • what is the purpose for having the skrew?

  • @Prolocater The water turns the screw which spins a generator that generates electricity :D

  • @MrCoolRice thanks

  • @Prolocater it brings water UP hill. Archimedes was a very clever man

  • @SarahSauRc cool

  • @Prolocater It looks beautiful and it generates electricity to run the apartments in Dandridge's Mill

  • The one in Munich is not fitted, see my video reply.

  • Is that generating power?

  • Why is it turning in that direction?

  • @Gompie7 It's as if the water were a piece of wood with a hole and the screw were being backed out of it. If it were threaded in the opposite direction, it would have turned counter-clockwise.

  • should have guard fitted, one slip and you will be dead.

  • @brian1679

Guard is fitted. It was removed for the purposes of the video by the company that installed it. Please see 'Archimedes Screw Turbine Construction by Hallidays' that demonstrates the screw and its protective screen. The screen is only ever removed by the installation team, Hallidays Hydropower. Hope this gives you a little peace of mind. Nick

  • @brian1679, Don't get too close and you will be safe!

  • @brian1679 it does have a guard. It was just removed for the filming so the turbine could be seen clearly.

  • @brian1679 If it was in the USA there would be a guard on it. Then people would lean on the guard and still fall in.

  • @thereare4lights17 It isn't often that you see one of those "in the 'insert country name' here" comments that are actually dead on.

  • @thereare4lights17 And if this was in the US, and it had a guard on it where people would lean on it and break it, they'd then frivolously sue the owner because of their own stupidity. Sad, but true. :( Sometimes I hate living here.

  • @brian1679 Dead?

    Why?!

    It just stops then...

  • @brian1679 Why? Be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. If the argument is "for the children", well... if a parent does their job right, no child would be that dumb. And if they are, oh well. Darwin Happens. When they get out of the hospital, they'll have learned a valuable lesson about not being stupid or oblivious.

Protection devices hold too many stupid people's hands. No, a "ready bake" turkey doesn't actually mean you can put the whole thing, plastic and all, in to the oven.

  • @gymkhanadog i tootaly agree if people would get hert and or not be afrade of geting hert now and then it would be a good thing humans heal well and i sewar evolution is only forced IE most people wound learn to do any thing unless u make them uncomfortable and then they say i want it easyer so they finaly think change (i hate to call my self human) =3-

  • @xoxoXoieoxox Wow. You can spell 'uncomfortable', but not, totally, hurt, afraid, getting, swear, easier, and myself is one word by the way. I won't even get into the punctuation. I hate to call myself human, knowing there are people like you out there criticizing other people.

  • @ChevyPower698 leave it to a chevy ouner to critazize some one just on there spelling and just look right past the point O.o

  • @xoxoXoieoxox Wow that is exactly what i was thinking....

Its like you can read my thoughts....spooky....

    Are you inside my brain????

  • @swilbs wow this means ur intelegent wanto be freinds lol .....and yes i am in ur brain if u want i can tach u how =3-

  • @gymkhanadog as far as ur ready bake thing i have only one thing to say to that homer simpson sed "BECAUSE OF ME THEY HAVE A WARNING NOW" LOL =3-
