I also questioned why some people can be so vitriolic towards any artist doing a cover song... when this artist reason is to show his admiration and respect for the original artist and his love of the song.

Excellent cover, loved it when it came out and loved Japan, too much talk of what they looked like from jealous blokes with no hair, fat bellies and beards no doubt. Fact is these guys were top class musicians and played ALL their instruments, so take your blinkers off and stick that where the sun don't shine all you doubters.

This is such a beautiful version of this song; its very dreamy and hypnotic, just wonderful. Japan were so debonair; do you know that the singer(David Sylvian) and the drummer(Steve Jansen) are actually brothers? How can there be so much beauty in one family????

Why trash and offend the artist? In most cases, when an artist does a cover of a song, the reason is to express his/her admiration towards the original artist/song. In David's case, we all know how he loves the Motown sound (since childhood) and has great respect for Mr Smokey Robinson. He is a fan himself!

@mightyguf if by "flawless" you mean walking around looking like Marianne Faithful mugged by A Flock of Seagulls, why then, yes, flawless. I love Japan/Sylvian and I think this is the best version of this song but that look should have never, never happened.

a girl i knew once loved these guys......she was a very quiet sweet thing....probably six months after this charted she was found on an embankment about 50 yards outside her home..... apparently her boyfriend who she was trying to dump had blown her head off.... before turning the gun on himself
