@sonydolphinluver101 This TV show *was* their career. They were created expressly for it. The music group was a spin off of the show, not the other way around.
always enjoyed the show and the group I had a pal in HS she was named VALERIE she wrote them all the time and guessed the song VALERIE was for her I doubt it tho
I'm a long time fan of this show and the Monkees in general. I watched their program in syndication (reruns) in the early 70's and I identified more with them than the Beatles, who didnt have a TV show and had broken up by the time I was watching TV.
Ahahah i remember when i was 7 my aunt always put this show on for me whenever id go over & i had crushes on peter, mike & davy.......& then she told me how old the show was -.-
i was too young to care for it much when it came out but later on when it came out in reruns I watched it stoned with a box of cheezits and some ding dongs and stained my drayers
.the show used to be on a Thursdayy evening here in the UK, and I used to rush home from choir practice (seriously) to watch it on the tv.....happy days indeed!
i watched it when it first came out!, In the UK anyway).that shows my age (nearly 51). I lioved Peter Tork. Who here thinks that Davy Jones looks like Richard Hammond (Top Gear UK),,,,he also reminds me of a young Dudley Moore. Petite in stature,, dark haired ,and very handsome:)
The closing theme is "For Pete's Sake", taken from the "Headquarters" album, and it went on to replace "Hey Hey, We're the Monkees" as the closer for the second season. What theme do you think sounded better as the cloing song?
Ah, the good old days. I was a grade school kid when this show came on. I'm 52 now and still get goosebumps when I hear this song. I've been watching the reruns on Antenna TV and they sure take me back to a happier time in my life.
That is awkward you don't hear "For Pete's Sake" until the second season. the credits that I am reading was from Season 1 Monkee See, Monkee Die. Also you do not normally see Mike being credited as Michael Nesmith.
@bubblebear83 When the show went into many years of syndication the beginnings and endings were often mixed up. Also in the later syndications they eliminated the album cuts in the shows and replaced them with the big hits. Often the songs in the closing credits were not the same songs played during the shows. Until I got the whole series on DVD I never realized how chopped up the syndicated shows actually were.
@rgd32162 Speaking of The Monkees DVD, they are going to be re-releasing the Monkees Season 1 and 2 again. Now it is going to cost $69.99 a set. I wish they made it $39.99 a set.
I LOVE THEM!

This show used to come on in the mornings when I was a kid! I'm only 25 so they were clearly showing repeats, but I really enjoyed this show.

@szqsk8 I'm 49, so I just missed the first run, except part of the last season. But I DID see it during its first rerun from 68-70.
