The aussies are the worst players of spin by far and they never read spin. So they were clueless. Also many of the greats have retired. So i am not surprised. You'll always find it to be quite a rare feat when a bowler actually makes it as a good test and/or one day captain. Vettori in current terms is an exception but he's an all-rounder for the most part, plus he spent years under the tutelage of perhaps one of the modern games great captains in Stephen Fleming. As for Kumble, I don't think he was ever meant to be a great captain, merely a stand in to take the pressure off Dhoni before it was inevitably passed on to him.

u gotta hand it to sri lankans they have a knack of producing some weird and wonderful players! hes certainly unorthodox! not too sure about how well the indian batsmen handled him, for me they were far too flat footed to to counter the turn but then he is quicker through the air than a regular spinner! will be interesting to see how the rest of world handles him?!
