I laugh at the argument about which is better, L4D or silent hill. They're not even in the same league. L4D is a shooter, silent hill is a survival horror. but even so, silent hill is ten times better. it actually takes THOUGHT to understand.

@TheWitchking123 People like it so much, because Silent Hill isn't your typical horror game with things popping-out at you or ear-shattering noises come up when something happens. It's a psychological horror game, meaning the game can trick you into believing you saw/heard something, you're being stalked, etc. It does a good job of instilling psychological fear and paranoia along an excellent story line.

@TheWitchking123 I remember i was playing SH1 on my PSone. I had shotgun and lot of ammo for it, i had a handgun and lot of ammo for it. Also i had many first aid bottles, so it was very hard to kill me. I played in day time, maybe at 14:00 o'clock. There was no reason to be frightened. But then i turned my head off and my Mama said "Dear, why you have so scared eyes?". Yeah, it was great game, greatest survivol horror ever. Sorry for my English))

I love that strange... "Twangy?" instrument. At the beginning it creates a genuine sense of fear and foreboding, like it's something to be feared. When it re-emerges at 1:02 it definitely has a much sadder sound to it, a feeling I find only added to at 1:43, when it actually sounds sort of happy. Kinda like a musical "Light at the end of the tunnel". Maybe I'm just looking way to deep, but that strange twangy instrument (whatever it is), in a way, represents the town of Silent Hill itself.

I love this theme because of the amount of emotion that is in it which perfectly fits Silent Hill 1-3 which in my opinion are the best games. I did not like the movie at all. I just felt that it could have been so much better if they put more time into the actual story.
